Rhode Island College heading to Fort Wayne, IN for the NWCA National Duals The Anchormen were one of 24 NCAA Division III wrestling teams selected to the national prestigious event that will be held at the Fort Wayne Convention Center on January 9, 10. Rhode Island College finished #22 in the nation with a 16-4 record including wins over #6 Del Valley (PA) and #8 Johnson and Wales. With returning national qualifier at 125 Jonathan Murray and nationally ranked 141 Ricondo Cole, the Anchormen will look to knock off some of the nation’s best. National qualifier from 2011 Shawn Giblin looks to the line up. Joe Slane, who finished the season on the injured list, beat Vin Fava of Del Val, who took 3rd at NCAA’s. In 2014, RIC headed to Ursinus for the North/South duals, and handed Del Val a loss while going 4-0 on the day. This year, however, the Anchormen will back in the bracketed dual meet tournament. The NWCA sponsors the event, which brings the nations top NCAA Division II, III, JUCO, NAIA, Women’s, and high school teams to one venue.

Homecoming 5K supports RIC Wrestling

Sunday September 28 became the ideal date for the annual tournament. Last year’s field doubled and sponsorships continue to get the Anchormen much needed travel funds for tournaments.

Foursomes, individuals, and groups of 2 or 3 are all welcome. Tee and green sponsors provide a tax deductable donation. There is limited space for dinner patrons as well. The brochure will be attached to our mass emails. You may contact jjones@ric.edu to provide your information as to how you can be part of this great day.

The college’s annual homecoming weekend will feature a 5K Race/Walk featuring a “classic” run. Bring the family out to a nice healthy event supporting the Anchormen wrestling team. You will be able to find the registration link on the RIC Athletics website and the brochure will be on future emails. Save the date Saturday, October 18 at 9am.

Golf Ball Drop Raffle Extravaganza! RIC’s annual raffle giveaway to support the wrestling team. Imagine thousands of golf balls dropped off the top of a construction lift with 18 flags with awesome prizes below. The numbered balls serve as a glorified ticket number. GRAND PRIZE $1,000 2nd $500, 3rd $250 plus 15 other prizes!

National Champion Billy Cotter to be inducted in RIC Athletics Hall of Fame Billy Cotter will be honored at the annual RIC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction ceremony as part of homecoming weekend. The event will take place in Donovan Dining Center on Saturday October 18. Billy “Thug” Cotter won his 134-pound national title in 1994. He transferred to Rhode Island in the 1991-1992 season capturing his first of three New England titles helping the Anchormen hold on to its reign as 5x New England champions. Billy was the first national champion ever coming out of the New England Conference. There have been only 3 to follow including RIC’s Michael Bonora.
