A Taste of Brooklyn By Marianne Belmonte

Although it’s been many years since I moved out of the old neighborhood in Brooklyn, I still need to go back every so often, and so I did recently; not to the old neighborhood but to Williamsburg. This last visit convinced me that I need to go to this wonderful city more often. I had an amazing experience at Miranda, an Italian/Latin inspired restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg, just across the East River from Manhattan. Having grown up in Brooklyn, I am very proud of what this city within a city has become. It is because of establishments such as Miranda’s that make us want to go back and experience all that Brooklyn has to offer.

Resident June 2013

One Sunday morning in April my family brunch at this very unique establishment. The restaurant is housed in a one hundred brick walls and a lot of rustic charm. We were greeted by the Maitre d’, Mauricio Miranda, co-owner of Miranda’s, along with his wife Sasha, who is the Executive Chef. Sasha has a very diverse background in the culinary world, and she has created her own authentic style. Her inspiration is derived from having spent time in both Europe and Latin American countries, and her creative nature has afforded her the ability

to create an outstanding cuisine. Mauricio has many years of experience in restaurant management, and together they make an extraordinary team. Both are dedicated to using only the freshest ingredients, and when they believe that using seasonal ingredients will achieve the best results. We began our celebratory brunch with a toast to my mother who had just turned eighty-nine. We had Bellinis, and the more daring of the group had La Miranda, which is made with guava, Moscato and Prosecco. I was told by the group that it was delicious.
