FASHION

Fall 2014 in All of its Glory By Hillary Latos Though Pax did its job in creating frigid temperatures and blizzards for editors and fashionistas to brave during Fashion Week, it did put us in the mood for what was unveiled on the runways. It was all about the fabrics this season. We saw lush charmeuses and boucles interwoven with metallics in shades of gray and sapphire, and hints of amethyst and ruby or deep copper, adorned with colored fur of all sortsbronze fox, sheared mink, shearling, as trim or in solids or color blocked. Hemlines were dropped and finished in asymmetrical lengths and closures. Peekaboo cutouts and razor sharp laser cuts were an interesting visual element to silhouettes. The great cape has made a comeback as the must have accessory. Few designers looked to the future for inspiration as many collections were based on nostalgic fashion icons from the past and individual voyages abroad. If anything, there will be something for everyone in Fall and layering in different textures will be key.
