Rabbi’s Reflections Rabbi David Katz Our “Moments” Survey!!! Dear Temple Isaiah Member, By now you have received your “Moments” survey via email. (There are paper copies at the Temple and if you do not use the computer, you can call if you’d like to have one sent to you.) I want to tell you how important it is for you to fill out the questionnaire. It will ask you all about yourself - your talents, skills and interests. At the end it will ask you to donate “moments,” i.e. times the Temple can call upon you to engage you.

your best brownies. The answer to each question will help the Temple grow stronger by jump starting new programming, strengthening events that already exist and challenging the consumer oriented ways Temples have traditionally operated... ”Here’s a program or event, please come = we urge you to come = we beg you to come and we’ll be successful depending on how many of us come!!!” Now the definition of Temple success will not be how many people attend an event, (attendance will be pre-determined,) success will be defined by how

Fifty donors might each be asked to add a can of food. With greater numbers responding to the survey and then donating moments,

It has been thrilling, exciting, exhausting, frightening, emotional and wonderful. It was a year of incredible learning, joyful highs, moments of kvelling and pride, and just plain joy. I got to know so many extraordinary people – from our youngest Kindergarteners to our cherished great-grandparents; teachers, children, parents, and all-important support staff. I end the year smarter,

Our Tefilah program is one I am most proud of. Each teacher was given a packet of prayers to review with their students for reading and practice. We held actual prayer time each session, at the beginning of class on Sundays and at the end on Tuesdays. Our students not only began to master the recitation of the prayers, but have begun to develop spiritually through this routine spiritual conversation with the divine.

My mind is already racing with ideas for the coming years, new things to implement and things from this year I plan on improving and doing differently next year. But first, let’s take a moment to kvell about some of our wonderful accomplishments from this year. We had a fabulous opening day with an engaging family program that had our parents and students collaborating together. Each grade participated in a family education program on a Sunday morning, and we had wonderful participation by our families. Our teachers helped facilitate and our PA helped feed our families. We adopted a brand new Hebrew curriculum this year, which empha-

tion, including Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Social Action, Confirmation students, and the PA, expanding on the already successful Latke Bash for a morning of fun, food and tzedakkah. We repeated this formula with an equally successful and fun Purim Carnival. Other holiday projects included our Apple Bar, Tu B’shevat bird feeders, and Yom HaAtzmaut Flag Brownies. I can’t forget to mention our off-site trips – movie night to see Wonder, the trip to Theatre Three to see the play From the Fires, and our Confirmation trip to the Lower East Side. These experiences out of the building provide invaluable learning opportunities for our students.

In that vein, they support the education and orientation of new and incoming presidents of Reform congregations (Rudi having been a temple president himself), and this seminar is held each year on both the east and west coasts. It was amazing to me that every person there, singularly representing his or her congregation, and doing so as its lay leader, shared similar experiences, whether they were joys or concerns.

So how does this impact us, you may wonder? Our temple is US! Without us, it will cease to exist. Part of what we do is spiritual, and part is social. Sometimes it’s both. Either way, it presents the opportunity to feel nurtured and fulfilled. We need EVERY congregant to feel this way. We need each and every one, young and old, to give, and to take. Immerse some part of yourself in Temple Isaiah. We have a lot to do: We are welcoming a new Rabbi and saying farewell to another; we are having ongoing events for the temple, for Religious School, and for Brotherhood and Sisterhood. We need people to attend, and we need

Sustaining Members & Friends of Temple Isaiah 2018 Please help us to maintain Temple Isaiah as a house of worship, a house of learning, and a house of assembly by becoming a Sustaining Member in 2018. It is here where you celebrate life-cycle events, and it is here where you will find support when you need it. It is with your strong financial support that Temple Isaiah will continue to provide education, worship services, and support for people who are experiencing loss, crisis, or illness. Won’t you perform the mitzvah of tzedakah at Temple Isaiah? If you are able to make a contribution as a Sustaining Member, you will be providing revenue for regular as well as unforeseen expenses, and you will be helping us plan for future generations. Brunch was provided by the Brotherhood for so that everyone could begin their “Good Deeds Day” with maximum energy! We continue to have guest speakers at our monthly Sunday breakfast meetings. Beautification Fund

It’s always the "right time" to make a contribution to your Temple. It might be in honor of a living person or a recent event, or in memory of someone or something, or anything you want. Donations can be made over the phone, by email, or through the USPS. However you send the information, your donation can be added to your monthly Temple Isaiah invoice for easy bookkeeping. Sunshine cards require a minimum contribution of ten dollars.

The purpose of the Beautification Fund is to generate money to renovate and beautify our synagogue. All monies will go into a fund dedicated to this special purpose.

Minimum contribution is $10 Prayer Book: $45 Chumash: $60 Tree of Life Leaf: $118 Pew Plaque: $250 Memorial Board Plaque: $360 Please call the office for more information regarding the above contributions.

To assist in this goal, a wall sculpture has been commissioned. This permanent work of art provides the opportunity to commemorate your support for Temple Isaiah. Plaques of different sizes will be available in the following categories: Contributor............... $250 per year for 3 years Sponsor.................... $500 per year for 3 years Patron.................... $1000 per year for 3 years Benefactor.............. $2500 per year for 3 years To make a contribution, or if you have any questions, please call the office at 751-8518.
