Cartier’s dedication to design is no small feat, explains the MENA regional manager Louis Ferla; “Each piece differs, and requires a particular amount of time and care. Our latest novelty, the Grand Complication Skeleton pocket watch, includes a total of 457 parts, each individually hand-finished,” he divulges. “Over 200 hours are required to perfect the piercing process, involving delicate, highly fragile parts.” The 2012 collections Today, Cartier’s portfolio boasts bridal ranges, leather goods, accessories and, naturally, jewellery. But at the heart of Cartier are the timepieces, with many new pieces added to the collection this year, including the Tank Anglaise line and a range of feminine creations. “Several creative and playful dials can be seen in this year’s feminine styles, noticeably in the Temps Moderne de Cartier watch and the Promenade d’une Panthére,” outlines Louis. Clearly a strong animalistic influence inspired the development of such pieces, a result of a long-established relationship with one particular feline creature. “The Promenande d’une Panthére is a magnificent customdesigned movement that highlights the iconic Cartier panther. This playful and powerful animal is the ‘muse of the maison’ and is often used to represent daring, powerful women that remain feminine and refined,” Louis states. Additionally, 2012 has also seen another launch; “Cartier made a powerful statement with the presentation of 11 new movements in its fine watchmaking collection,” says Louis. “Out first Minute Repeater collection bares witness to Cartier’s innovative spirit, unrivalled craftsmanship, excellence and artistic creativity,” he adds. New direction The brand endeavours to satisfy high demands with each new collection, by remaining true to the House of Cartier history but also by being daring. “Every year we bring in new techniques and materials in groundbreaking designs. Last year we used the enameling method in the Artistic Crafts, and this year we introduced the gemstone mosaic and straw marquetry,” Louis says.
