The Union Minister said that the main cause of the poor condition of agriculture sector is social disparity. The problems which were faced by the farmers of the country before independence still persist. He said that it was Sir Chhotu Ram who initiated Minimum Support Price (MSP) to ensure income to the farmers, whereas earlier, agriculture was considered as a mean to obtain food grains only. Comparing the income of the farmer with the education sector, he said that if the Minimum Support Price of wheat is increased in the proportion to the salaries in education sector, then the MSP would have been Rs. 6500 per quintal instead of Rs. 1840 per quintal. The main reason behind this is huge disparity in income generation in various professions. This inequality insociety is a major obstacle for the progress of the country, he added.
