Newsletter Industrial Conclave 2018

With the view to explore better placement opportunities for students and to provide a platform for industry and academic personnel to share their innovative ideas, YMCA University organised Industrial Conclave 2018 on 20th April 2018 on the theme ‘Employability and Emerging Technologies’. The Conclave has been organised under the TEQIP-3 Project. In order to enhance the employability skills of the students and to provide them industrial training, the University has also signed three MoUs with Godrej & Boyee Manufacturing Company Ltd., YAMAHA Motors Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and NSIC-Technical Services Centre, Neemka during the conclave which will create more opportunities to the students to upgrade their knowledge as per industry requirement. About 150 representatives from industries participated in this conclave.Industrial Conclave 2018 The programme which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar commenced with lightening of the lamp by all the dignitaries. In her welcome address, Dr. Suman Vashishtha, Placement Officer briefed about the Industry Conclave-2018 while highlighting its objectives. The event was jointly organised by the Training and Placement Department, Industrial Relations Cell and Alumni and Corporate Affairs Cell of the University. The event was coordinated by the Training and Placement Officer Dr. Lakhwinder Singh and Director, Industrial Relations Cell Dr. Rashmi Popli. In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the University has produced a lot of industry leaders who are working for their innovative ideas and have excelled in their filed. Encouraging the students for startups, Vice Chancellor said that the students should set up their own ventures instead of working in established industries. Conclave of such kind provides an apt platform for generating new ideas among the students and it becomes our duty to change these ideas into products. He also emphasised to incorporate changes in the curriculum as per the technology needs. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Arun Bhatia, Managing Director, United Technologies appreciated the students for their innovative ideas and said that these ideas could be commercialised by helping the student to take them to the next level. He said that we can rely on the students like that of YMCA University to develop in-house small technologies for which our companies have to reach out to countries like China and Japan. He suggested the students to make themselves aware about the emerging area of technologies and explore new opportunities available there.

Newsletter Career Counselling Fair

A ‘Career Counseling Fair’ was organised today at YMCA University Campus to guide the students about various career options available to them after passing 10+2. The fair was jointly organised by Career Pundit, an institutes providing coaching to students for various competitive exams, and School Lalaji, vendor-supplier Management Company for educational institutions. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker on this occasion. Well known industrialists and educationists were also invited in this fair, who guided the students about various career prospects. Addressing the students, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the student should choose a career that suits to his interest and strength. It is the important for him to know his strength and area of interest in which he can give his cent per cent. It may be noted that the University has introduced new academic courses in Engineering, Science and Management streams at undergraduate level from ensuing academic session commencing in July. The new courses are B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, B.Sc. in Animation and Multimedia, B.Sc. (Hon.) in Mathematics and Chemistry, Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Apart from this, seats in B.Tech. Computer Engineering have also been increased. Vice Chancellor said that with the introduction of new courses, many career options have become available to the students who willing to study in YMCA University and they can also choose the course as per their interest. However, YMCA University is known for engineering and has always been a first choice for engineering aspiring students. Speaking on selecting an institution for admission, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the student should keep in mind his area of interest and should take decision according to his JEE Rank while choosing an institution. Vice Chancellor said that there are emerging fields of engineering like 3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, etc, where many opportunities for employment will be generated in the future. Therefore, students should also be focused on future prospects of employment while choosing a career in engineering, he added.

Republic Day Celebration YMCA University celebrated 69th Republic Day with patriotic fervour and gaiety. The Vice Chancellor of University, Prof. Dinesh Kumar hoisted the Tri-colour in the University premises. He also took salute at march past presented by the Security Staff of the University and addressed the gathering. The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and cultural performances presented by the students.

Motivation Talks by Vivek Bindra

The Career and Counselling Cell of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with Vedic Club organised an energetic and mind-refreshing workshop by notable motivational speaker Dr. Vivek Bindra to inspire the students to achieve their goals with greater zeal. The topic of the session was on ‘Improving Student’s Efficiency in Education and Corporate Sector’ which was attended by a large number of students. The session was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar and coordinated by Dean and Chairperson of Management Studies Dr. Arvind Gupta. Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that listening to a motivational speaker of internationally repute like Dr. Bindra is a golden opportunity for students and hoped that such inspirational talks of Dr. Bindra would help the student to build their career and achieve their goals in life. For about two hours, Dr. Vivek Bindra's motivational session kept the audience captivated with high-spirited activities. The entire session was filled with energy and the students felt extremely inspired with the positive thinking and 'never say never' attitude. Dr. Bindra encouraged the students to take inspiration from the life of famous basketball player Michael Jordan and Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to learn how they managed to achieve his goals in life amidst of all the hardships.

Blood Donation Camp The University in collaboration with Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP), Faridabad and Red Cross Society has organised a voluntary blood donation camp in the University premises on 7th Feb 2018 Above 250 volunteers including students, faculty and staff members participated and donated blood in which participation of girls students was encouraging.

MoU with Ador Welding Limited

With the view to provide opportunities to students to improve their employability in welding and manufacturing sector, the YMCA University has signed a MoU with Ador Welding Limited, a leading Manufacturer & Supplier of Welding electrodes, welding equipment and welding rectifier from Mumbai. The Company has also offered its assistance and technical help to set up a Centre of Excellence on Welding Technology in the University premises. The MoU was signed by Dr. Vikram Singh, Dean (Academics Affairs), YMCA University and Mr. Shekhar Gupta, Senior Manager (North), Ador Welding Limited in the presence of Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. M.L. Aggarwal, Chairperson, Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Rashmi Popli, Director, Industry Relations, Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Training and Placement Officer, Mr. Sanjay Dadral, Senior Manager (Equipments), Ador Welding Limited were also present on this occasion. Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that through this academic tie-up, the students of the University would get an opportunity to learn a variety of skills required for employment in manufacturing, industrial maintenance and construction .Once those welding skills are developed, students will be able to work on the creation of small project using those skills. The partnership would also prove beneficial for engineering students and students enrolled in University Community College under diploma course in welding, he added.

Yoga Day YMCA University celebrated 4th International Day of Yoga on 21st June. As many as about 300 participants performed yoga in a yoga session organised in the University premises. Ms. Seema Trikha MLA from Badkhal was the Chief Guest of the programme and participated in the yoga session. Apart from volunteers from associated organisations, a number of people, staff and faculty members, their spouses and students of the University attended the event.

Solar Car

A team of 25 engineering students, named IJYA of YMCA University have designed a car which runs solely on solar power. The car was demonstrated in Indian Solar Vehicle Championship which was held in Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana (Ambala) and bagged first prize in main endurance and light weight categories and stood second in the overall event.Indian Solar Vehicle Championship is designed to evolve and to encourage the most innovative ideas for the effective use of solar energy. The team put around six month efforts to design the vehicle and costing over Rs. 1.5 lakh.Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar has congratulated the students for making their ideas a reality with the completion and lauded the efforts put in by the faculty and students associated with the project. Encouraging the student, the Vice Chancellor said that getting involved with such kind of projects is a great way to learn the real engineering skills. The frequent use of fossil fuels as a source of energy is also triggering climate changes, leading to increase in the pollution level. The future of automobiles in the country lies in solar power and hybrid vehicles which reduce pollution and save energy, he added. Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Krishna Verma, who guided the students in the project, said that the car, weight of 138 kg, can be driven for 150 kms at the top speed of 45 km per hour in single charge. It takes three units of electricity and four hour for full charge. It has alternative charge system through solar panels of 240watt (48volt) monocrystalline. It has lithium-ion battery of 48 volt.

‘International Earth Day’ The University today observed International Earth Day and organised various programmes including Scientific Poster Gallery cum Competition, Quiz and Expert Lecture to mark the day on 19th April 2018. This year, the theme of the day is ‘End Plastic Pollution’.International Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 marked across the world to show support for environmental protection. Dr. S.D. Attri, Deputy Director General, Scientist-F, Indian Meteorological Department, New Delhi was the chief guest and keynote speaker of the programme and spoke about various climate change prospective. The programme was presided over by Prof. Sandeep Grover, Dean, Institutions. Prof. Raj Kumar, Chairperson, Department Humanities and Science was also present in the programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Renuka Gupta.

Newsletter Refresher Course: Emerging Trends in Computer Science

A Week-long inter disciplinary Refresher Course in Computer Science and Information Technology on ‘Emerging Trends in Computer Science’ for faculty members and research scholars at YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad concluded toady. The Course was attended by about 50 participants from University and other Institutions from Faridabad and Palwal which was jointly conducting by the Department of Computer Engineering and Department of Information Technology & Computer Applications under TEQIP-III Project. Prof. Om Vikas, former Vice-Chancellor of IIITM, Gwalior was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker in the Valedictory Session which was presided over by Dr. S.K. Sharma, Registrar of the University. Chairman, Computer Science Prof. Komal Kumar Bhatia, Chairman, IT and Computer Applications Prof. Atul Mishra, Prof. C.K. Nagpal and Prof. Munish Vashishth were also present on this occasion. In his keynote address, Prof. Om Vikas emphasized that it is the responsibility of teachers to acquaint themselves with the latest trends in modern means of teaching which will not only improve the classroom teaching but will also be beneficial to the teachers in their research work. He gave an impressive lecture on outcome based teaching learning process to enable the faculty to teach according to the requirements of international standards. He said that cost effectiveness and energy efficiency are two important things which a researcher should keep in mind while initiating new innovation and the research should be true, new and relevant. He suggested to organize IT Clinics to get the real life problem solutions by inviting Industry and academic experts in such Clinics. Addressing the gathering, Registrar Dr. S.K. Sharma emphasised on the need of innovation and research for the benefit of rural area particularly in agriculture sector. He said that the research should be more centric on its usage in real life. He asked the participants to send the details of their innovative project ideas to the University on which collaborative research works can be done. Dr. Sharma presented a memento to Prof. Om Vikas as mark remembrance. Earlier, Dr. Neelam Duhan, the Course Coordinator summarized the contents of the course. She informed that during the week-long programme, 15 sessions of expert lectures by academicians and industrialists were held and emerging treads in technologies such as Internet of Things, Soft Computing techniques, Wireless Body area networking, Big Data Analytics, GIS system and Computational Intelligence were discussed. The participants shared their experiences and presented a feedback report of the course. In the end, certificates were distributed to the participants by the Chief Guest. Prof. Atul Mishra delivered the vote of thanks.

Newsletter MoU with Ambedkar Institute of Advanced Communication Technologies and Research (AIACTR)

With a view to promote academic cooperation and research, YMCA University has signed a MoU with Ambedkar Institute of Advanced Communication Technologies and Research (AIACTR), New Delhi. The MoU was signed by Dr. Vikram Singh, Dean (Academics Affairs), YMCA University and Dr. Rajeev Kapoor, Principal, AIACTR in the presence of Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University. Chairpersons of different Departments Dr. Munish Vashishta, Dr. Raj Kumar and Dr. Komal Bhatia, Director, Industry Relations Dr. Rashmi Popli and Director, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Dr. Sanjeev Goyal were also present on this occasion. Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the understanding between AIACTR and YMCA University would help promote the standard of teaching and research and it would lead to exchange of faculty and research scholars for interaction and guidance. They could also apply for research funding by collaborating research project on mutually agreeable terms, he added. The faculty and research scholars of both the Institutions would help each other with the latest developments in the research and be entitled to use the facilities including labs, library and equipments.

IndiaSkills Regional Competition 2018 Shubham Aggarwal, a student of B. Tech (ECE) of YMCA University has achieved Second Position in IndiaSkills Regional Competition 2018 which was held in Lucknow from May 31 to June 2, 2018 and selected for National Competition. The IndiaSkills Regional competitions are organized under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to promote the aspirational value of skills among youth. Shubham participated in the category of Electronics Skill in the Competition. As many as six students from different States of North India participated in the Competition and Shubham bagged 2nd Position.

Seminar on ‘Social Responsibility and Accountability of Media’

YMCA University in assistance with Haryana State Council for Science and Technology, organised a oneday seminar on ‘Technology: Useful Servant or a Dangerous Master’ to mark the ‘National Technology Day’ which is celebrated every year on May 11 to commemorate the history of India's technological innovations and excellence.

The YMCA University in collaboration with Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK) today organised a one-day seminar on ‘Social Responsibility and Accountability of Media’ in the University Auditorium to mark the birth anniversary of Devrishi Narad, known for disseminating relevant information and held up as ‘Role Model for Positive Journalism’.Advisor of Prasar Bharti Mr. Gyanendra Bartaria was the chief guest and keynote speaker on this occasion. The programme was presided over by Dean (FET) and Chairperson, Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Tilak Raj. Dean and Chairperson of Humanities and Sciences Department was also present on this occasion. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Amandeep Kaur and Dr. Taruna Narula of Journalism and Mass Communication programme, Department of Humanities and Sciences.

Pro-Vice Chancellor of Manav Rachna Vidyanatariksha Prof. M.K. Soni was the Chief Guest of inaugural session which was presided over by Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Register Dr. S.K. Sharma, Deans Dr. Tilak Raj, Dr. Raj Kumar, Chairman (CE) Dr. Komal Bhatia and Chairman (IT & CA) Dr. Atul Mishra were also present on this occasion. The seminar was hosted by the Department of Computer Engineering which was coordinated by Dr. Parul Tomar.Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the National Technology Day is celebrated to mark the historic feat of test-firing its very first nuclearcapable missile back in 1998 and to commemorate achievements of Innovation and Technology in India. He said that the topic of the seminar is very relevant in present times as technology is being used for good and bad both the purposes. If the technology can give the energy through nuclear power then it can also make nuclear bombs. The question is not about whether technology is good or bad but it is about what we decide to do with technology that matters and how the technological development can be used for the development of society.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Gyanendra Bartaria urged the young journalists to develop multitasking skills in the changing scenario. He said that the role of the media as a watchdog of democracy cannot be denied, so journalists should take issues of national importance with priority. He said that the new media has transformed the entire face of journalism. Young journalists need to show keen interest in new media which provides better employment opportunities than traditional media. He said that there is no shortcut for hard work, so young journalists need to develop passion for the profession and willingness to fight against any form of injustice. Addressing the seminar, Social Worker Mr. Gangashankar Mishra said that journalists need to raise issues of national interest with sensitivity. He said that important steps have been taken by the Government of India towards the protection of the country's intellectual

He said that the technological developments cannot be stopped but efforts can be made for its use in the interest of humankind. It depends on us how to change the negative side of technological usage by imparting ethical values in our students, he added. He urged the students

workshop on ‘Outcome based Accreditation for Undergraduate Engineering Program’

With a view to further improve the quality of technical education in the YMCA University by incorporating best practices followed in global technical education, a two-day workshop on ‘Outcome based Accreditation for Undergraduate Engineering Program’ conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of YMCA University was commenced on 2nd May 2018 at Conference Hall of Mechanical Engineering Department.

The Career and Counselling Cell of YMCA University torganised a one day workshop on ‘Innovative Solutions for Indian Economy’ on 25th April 2018. National President of Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) Mr. Satish Kumar was the keynote speaker of the program and motivated the students for the Swadeshi sources of employment in the Country. The programme was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar who welcomed the keynote speaker. Registrar Dr. S.K. Sharma, Mr. Satendra Kumar Sorout, Mr. Om Prakash, Mr. Devender Aggarwal and Mr. Karan Vats from SJM were also present on the occasion. The program was coordinated by Dr. Arvind Gupta, Chairman, Career and Counselling Cell and well attended by the faculty and students of Engineering and Management.In his address, Mr. Satish Kumar highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship to the individual. He said that the students should think of becoming job creators than job seekers as this is the need of the hour. He said that there is huge scope of growth in start-ups, not just for the individuals but also for the economy as a whole. He gave clear statistics about the quality of applicants applying for meagre jobs in spite of being highly qualified. He also shared his personal experiences and stories of the making of Big Leagues like BTW (Bittu Tikki Wala) which has become a popular food brand in Delhi.

The workshop would develop an understanding about the ‘Outcome Based Education’ (OBE) to the faculty members and other officials of the University which is an educational model where a student shall have to achieve a goal by the end of the educational experiences. At the start of first session, Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dean (Institutions) gave an overview on NBA accreditation Process and preparation of Self Assessment Report. Registrar Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma and Dean (FET) Dr. Tilak Raj were also present on this occasion. In his address, Dr. M.L. Aggarwal apprised about the Writing Program Educational Objectives and Program Outcomes and Dr. Komal Bhatia detailed about the issues and concerns to improve the quality in Teaching Learning Process. The session was also addressed by Dr. Hari Om in which he described about the stakeholders’ feedback, Formats, Procedure, Analysis and Action Taken. The workshop would also cover the topics like Course Outcomes - Program Outcomes mapping, Attainment of Course Outcomes and Program Outcomes Direct and Indirect Assessment tools and Case studies for attainment of Program Outcomes.

He also interacted with students and responded to their queries related to brain drain, influence of Indian minds abroad, demographic dividend advantage, sectors with scope for employment creation and ways to increase the GDP of the country by means of capitalising on the youth. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students and faculty of the University.

Newsletter Short Term Training programme on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and Patenting’

Expert lecture on “Behaviour Change Communication”

With the view to create awareness on the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), the YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in assistance with National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (Nitttr Chandigarh), Chandigarh has been conducting a week long Short Term Training programme on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and Patenting’ on 24th April 2018.

The Department of Chemistry of YMCA University organized an expert lecture on ‘Supramolecular Chemistry’ as part of lecture series held for M.Sc. students on 28th March, 2018 covering Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. The latest lecture in the series was delivered by Dr HK Sharma, Kurukshetra University who specializes in Inorganic Chemistry. Earlier, Professor Ranjana Aggarwal and Dr Sangeeta Saini had dealt with the recent advancements in Organic and Physical Chemistry in their academic discussions.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University which was presided over by Dr. J.S. Saini, Professor and Head, EDIC Dept., National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh. The programme is being coordinated by Dean (Academics) Dr. Vikram Singh, Director, Alumni and Corporate Cell Dr. Sanjeev Goyal and Director, Industrial Relations Cell Dr. Rashmi Popli from YMCA University. In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar spoke on the role and importance of Intellectual Property Rights in the innovation and why innovation needs to be protected. He said that with the increasing relevance of Intellectual Property in the era of globalization, it is important for academicians, researchers, scientists and technocrats to recognize the role of Intellectual Property Rights. He said that the University has set up an IPR Cell to create awareness and protection of the Intellectual Rights of the University.

“Through these lectures, we aim to keep the students abreast of breakthrough technologies in Chemistry. We introduce the learners to the state-of-the-art in their own field,” asserts Ms. Bindu Mangla who is coordinating the post-graduate programme of the University. She shared that department has been tapping the expertise of eminent scientists and scholars in the field to motivate the students towards higher learning and research as envisioned by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J.S. Saini gave a brief introduction about the programme and spoke about the importance of IPRs and its protection. The Technical session of the programme will be addressed by Dr. Pramod Malik, Co-ordinator, Center for IPR Studies, Dept of LAW, BPS Women University, Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat, Varun Sharma, Advocate and Patent Attorney, Ms. Noopur Goyal, Registered patent Agent Delhi. An Industrial visit of participants to NRDC, Delhi and TIFAC, Delhi has also been planned during the programme.

Chairman of the Department Prof. Rajkumar has been facilitating the endeavors to develop upon the innate strength of M.Sc. (Chemistry) programme of the University.
