Favorite R5 Memories Every member of the R5 family has a favorite memory of the band. Whether it be when they released a certain music video, or when they were interviewed by one of the many magazines and youtube channels that they have been featured in. The staff of the R5 Family Mag got together to discuss some of our favorite memories of our favorite band.

My favorite R5 moment, was Rydel’s “Sibling Tag” video on her YouTube channel. They all look so carefree and happy, and the whole video was just an adorable mess. I love how you can see how much they truly love each other: “Do I get paid for this”, and the jokes directed at Ratliff are perfect: “Ellington?” You can really tell how much they appreciate their siblings, and you can see the whole family dynamic shining through. -Geca A lot has happened in the six years that I have been a fan of R5/The Driver Era. It’s hard to choose just a few of my favorite memories. One moment that comes to mind is when the band performed Loud in London. They posted the video on their YouTube channel, and I love how they performed this song during that concert. Another one of my favorites is the music video for Heart Made Up On You. At the time, it was one of the first big changes in the band and the music video showcased a storyline that was very unique and entertaining to watch. My last favorite memory is when I found out that Riker was going to be on Dancing With The Stars. I had been watching the show for many years and he was the first celebrity on it that I knew a lot about. It was very exciting to watch him perform each week with Allison. -Ashley

It's been a long time since I've become a fan of the Lynch siblings and in that time, they have come so far! Right away, I can list off many favorite moments of theirs that I have, and a few have been documented in YouTube videos. One is when Ross broke the couch on Clevver TV All Access. That was an iconic moment that fans will never forget. Another one is, when R5 pranked fans on Clevver TV as well, saying they were breaking up (sadly, that's sort of come true today since only Rocky and Ross are officially in The Driver Era) and then they came out and surprised them and sang songs with them! I would have loved to be one of those fans! There are plenty of Clevver TV All Access/Totally Clevver moments of R5 that I love, so you should definitely go check those out if you haven't. I also remember when their albums came out, and being super pumped to get them; plus meeting Rydel at her magazine signing and seeing them for the first time in concert! Oh, and we can't forget the amazing and iconic R5 TV moments! There's just so much to remember about them from many years ago, and I love looking back on those moments from time to time. -Jennifer

I personally have a few favorite memories of the band. One of them being the Ring Pop commercial. It was so fun to see them on tv nearly everyday! And the song that they wrote was a bop. Another one of my favorite memories of the band is when they performed with The Vamps. The Vamps are another favorite band of mine, so it was super cool to see them sharing the stage. -Leanne

Where are they now? By: Geca

Remember Teen Beach Movie? Yeah? Well, in July it will have been officially 6 years since it was released, and the stars have come a long way since then.

Ross Lynch Ross now costars in a Netflix show “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, playing Harvey Kinkle. He is now known as one half of the band, The Driver Era, with his brother Rocky making up the other half, although his old bandmates from R5 have joined them on stage during their tour this year.

Maia Mitchell After playing Calie on the tv show, The Fosters, Maia’s character has graduated college, starting off career as a lawyer in the new spinoff of the Fosters, “Good Trouble” which follows Calie and her sister Mariana, played by Cierra Ramirez. She also stars in the short video series Netflix just launched, “Little Black Mirror”, to promote the fifth season of Black Mirror.

Grace Phipps (Gracie Gillam) You may have noticed Gracie in “Scream Queens”, but she is currently starring in Syfy’s Z Nation.

She mentioned that most of her friends and family call her Gracie and Gilliam is a family name (both her father and her brother’s name), but as it’s pronounced Gillam, she decided to drop the “I”.

Garrett Clayton In 2017, Garett starred in the horror-thriller film Don't Hang Up, and later that same year he appeared on stage at the Pasadena Playhouse in God Looked Away. In 2018, Clayton announced he has been in a longstanding relationship with his boyfriend, Blake Knight, although he has not yet confirmed whether he is gay, bi or pansexual.

R5 Family Mag Staff Talks About Past Concerts They've Attended Jennifer, R5 Family Member for 7 Years

I've only ever been to one R5 concert, but nonetheless it was super fun! One big thing I remember about it was the fact that the band stayed in the same hotel as me and my mom and sister, and that we saw them walking around town. Looking back I really wish we went up and said hi, but we were too shy. Moving on, I remember how fun Rydel's magazine signing that we went to was, as well as the big opening at the concert and the crowd’s energy that night! It was definitely something I'll never forget!

I’ve had the opportunity to go to three R5 concerts. My first one was in August 2015 in Houston, TX and I got meet and greet tickets for that show so I was able to meet the band! That same morning, I also attend Rydel’s magazine signing so I got to meet her twice. The second concert I went to was February 2016 in Austin, TX. My family and I drove there from Houston so my mom and I could go see them again. This show was in a very small venue, so the music was even louder than all of the other ones. The last time that I saw them was July 2017 when they came back to Houston. I would have to say that my favorite show that I attended of theirs was the Houston show of the Sometime Last Night Tour in 2015. It was in a larger venue and it was a very exciting day since I got to meet them before seeing my first R5 show!

Decorations If you have your house open to guests, or any other open areas, such as a fence, that may need some jazzing up, consider adding some beads to the doorway!

Music and Costumese

If you have access to one, make use of a jukebox!

Have fun tie-dyed decorations around your party area‌ add bean bags and peace signs to really give that 60s hippie vibe.

Don’t forget the music! Turn on the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack, or blast your favorite Beatles and Beach Boys hits.

Encourage your guests to show up in their favorite 60s inspired summer clothes! You could dress like Lela or Tanner from Teen Beach Movie, or go a different route and dress like Butchy! A flower crown or some peace signed glasses may also be a cute touch.

Food

Creme de Menthe Squares: In a small bowl, mix 1 ¼ cup of crushed oreo cookies and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Put aside 3 tablespoons of the mixture, and press the remaining mixture into the bottom of an 8-inch greased square baking dish. Refrigerate for half an hour. In a large microwave-safe bowl, sprinkle 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin over ½ cup cold milk, let sit for 1 minute. Microwave on high for 30-40 seconds and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved and add 20 large marshmallows before cooking 1-2 minutes longer (or until marshmallows are puffy), stir until smooth. Stir in 3 tablespoons green creme de menthe and refrigerate 15-20 minutes or until cold, but not set. Stir often. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, gradually beat 3 ounces of softened cream cheese until it is smooth. In another bowl, whisk 1 package of instant chocolate pudding mix and 1 ¼ cup of cold milk and beat into cream cheese. In a large bowl, beat cream until soft peaks form; fold into marshmallow mixture and spoon half of the mixture over the prepared crust, refrigerate for 10 minutes. Layer with pudding mixture and the remaining marshmallow mixture. Top with the reserved crumbs and refrigerate for 2 hours of until set.

Cranberry Waldorf Salad: combine 2 cups of halved cranberries and ¾ a cup of sugar; let sit 30 minutes. Add 3 cups of mini marshmallows, 2 cups chopped apples, ½ cup chopped nuts, ¾ cup of drained canned pineapple and 1 cup halved green grapes. Fold in 1 cup heavy whipping cream (whipped) and chill.

A great summer backyard party starts with a grill… Hot dogs are an easy yet delicious way to feed your guests and your swinging 60s summer bash.

Welcome to the End of Your Life Review By: Ashley The Driver Era’s new song, Welcome to the End of Your Life, was released on April 26, 2019. The song sounds quite different from past songs released by the band. It seems that the band is exploring different sounds with this song, and they did a fantastic job with it. It’s a very chill song that has a nice groove to it. My favorite part of the song is toward the end of the song when Ross’ passionate vocals become more prominent.

The lyric video for the song also adds to the mood of this song. It shows Ross and Rocky as characters in a classic-vibe arcade game. The characters are running and overcoming obstacles, yet they never earn any coins. At the end, Ross and Rocky are run over by a car and die. The lyrics to the song may seem a little morbid but according to Ross, “it’s meant to leave a positive impression on the listener.” Ross also says that the track is about celebrating life and not death. I appreciate that each song that The Driver Era has put out has been very different. You can tell that all of the songs they’ve released come from the same people but they each have their own unique sound that is very impressive. I’m so excited to hear what comes out next from The Driver Era!
