We have worked with the factory, main dealers and specialists to create and evolve the appropriate exhaust sound for the W12, V8 and even the Diesel models. QuickSilver have owned three different Continentals to enable us to develop these properly. Uniquely to QuickSilver, our new W12 and V8 ‘Sound Architect’ systems seamlessly integrate with the factory Drive Select Knob where the exhaust note can be adjusted through the various modes - ‘Comfort’, ‘B’ and ‘Sports’.

The right sound. Difficult to identify and even more difficult to achieve. Bugatti owners would not be pleased with a screaming F1 howl (leave that to those show-off Aventador owners). Bugatti chose to bestow the 16 cylinder Veyron with visceral depth. The sound had to demonstrate ultimate power, Bunker-Buster not Soprano. QuickSilver have worked with various private owners, specialists and Bugatti UK to create an exhaust note that enhances and amplifies the unique sound that Bugatti created.

On many Heritage systems we can offer the choice of Original Equipment, ANSA and Abarth designs - or we can produce a system to suit the owner’s own preference, often quieter than standard. In the 1990s most new Ferrari owners probably changed their exhausts to amplify the sound, not so many in the 20teens as the newer cars sound pretty good already and Ferrari’s long service plans are discouraging. However, the latest sound emissions legislation since 2018 has compelled many extrovert drivers to seek an appropriate and unfettered soundtrack for their 458 or 488 - QuickSilver can provide.

KIA The original (OE) Stinger exhaust is designed to meet worldwide noise regulations, but for enthusiasts it is too quiet - Luxury not Sport. The OE exhaust contains sprung-loaded flap valves within each rear silencer. These completely block all exhaust flow until the gas pressure is sufficient to open them. Kia’s clever engineers had good reason to include this unusual feature but that reason cannot include exhaust efficiency. Normally aspirated race engines require calculated exhaust gas back-pressure but turbochargers require the least possible resistance, to allow the turbos to spool up to 80,000 rpm as quickly as possible. QuickSilver’s Sports Exhaust gives boost from lower rpm that comes on more suddenly. So, in practice (overtaking for example) the throttle response is noticeably improved. However, most Stinger owners will enjoy the QuickSilver Exhaust for the reduced weight and, especially, the enhanced soundtrack. QuickSilver were commissioned by Toyota GB’s ‘Experiential Management’ office to provide an enhanced sound for the new Lexus RC-F. This is a halo model incorporating a 477 bhp, 5 litre V8 engine, but was deemed too quiet for European customers who would be comparing this model with BMW’s M5 and the Mercedes C63. Toyota wished to move the RC-F experience just a bit, from Luxury to Sports The RC-F was launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it would have regular runs up the hill, driven by journalists and influencers. QuickSilver’s exhaust added depth to emphasise the V8 engine, a bit more volume under hard acceleration and a rising note to create a greater impression of speed. Driven at Goodwood by multiple British Rally Champion, Dia Llewellin, the QuickSilver RC-F was a great success and Lexus dealers offer the QuickSilver Sports Exhaust as a dealer-fit option. QuickSilver’s Sound Architect provides the driver with a personal choice – Allowing him or her to put the appropriate soundtrack back into their car and tailor that sound to suit their own taste and environment. Car manufacturers fully understand the importance of sound, and inside the cabin, they offer a range of premium sound systems. However, on a sunny Sunday morning, a Bang & Olufsen is a poor substitute for the note of a highrevving V8.

With QuickSilver’s Sound Architect , the driver can ramp up the sound – varying the note and volume to suit the mood. There are times when we just need to hear that engine.

CONTROL QuickSilver’s Sound Architect also allows the driver to turn it down – we don’t all want constant sound. On long journeys we may wish to listen to music or converse with a passenger.

The QuickSilver Sound Architect hands the control of these OE factory valves back to the driver. When he selects ‘Open’ they stay open and when he selects ‘Closed’ they stay closed.

APPLY The Sound Architect could not be easier to install. The electronic module requires only a 12v feed, usually a cigarette-lighter socket. It’s operation is Bluetooth controlled on the driver’s telephone via a QuickSilver APP. Pairing takes just a minute. So, the driver has Loud when he wants and Quiet when he needs. And, in either position, the variation of sound is controlled only by the driver’s right foot. The OE system remains installed and therefore meets all regulations and should pass test inspection just about everywhere.

On cars that do not possess a decent sound to work with, QuickSilver’s Sound Architect includes a Sound Generator within the exhaust system that sync’s an existing soundtrack with the car’s controls & function. This produces a perfectly realistic V8 experience for cars like the Bentley Bentayga Diesel, Mustang 4 cylinder Ecoboost and Maserati Levante.

AUGMENT This type of electronic Sound Architect is straightforward to install. It comprises a small electronic module that connects to the car’s CAN-BUS network and reads parameters like throttle position, engine rpm, gear changes and road speed to calculate and generate a sound that perfectly matches the drive. This method is vastly adjustable for note and volume and can be controlled from the driver’s telephone or (in many cases) fully integrated with the car’s standard controls. The Bentley Bentayga never fails to impress, instantly changing from full silent to monster with one click of the OE Drive Select knob. The electronics are designed in-house and manufactured for us here in the UK, using local British factories.

Our Active Valve exhaust systems contain two separate gas paths and an electronic flap-valve decides which path is taken, loud or quiet. This valve is either controlled by our QuickSilver APP on the driver’s mobile phone or (in many cases) integrated into the car’s existing controls, the Porsche GT3 and Audi R8 are fully integrated.

TRANSFORM
In creating their system QuickSilver analyse the sound of the modern car to determine which elements should be suppressed and which enhanced. The valved QuickSilver Sound Architect systems are truly ‘plug & play’. The electronic module simply connects to an existing accessory socket and is controlled wirelessly – so there in no intrusion into any of the car’s existing systems and no re-wiring is necessary. It could not be simpler.

Stainless Steel - There are around 120 different alloys of stainless steel, with various properties. Those used for car exhausts are mainly: Type 304 ‘Austenitic’ is regarded as the best grade for automotive exhausts and this is the alloy that we use, in plain and annealed form, for most of our systems. Excellent formability and great durability. Chromium (10%) and Nickel (19%) are added to the base steel.
Types 309 and 441 are two examples of specialist alloys with particularly high resistance to heat and stress. Materials
Type 409 ‘Ferritic’ is probably the most popular grade for original equipment exhaust components and especially catalytic converter casings. Chromium (11%) is the main addition to the base steel. Corrosion resistance is not as good as type 304 but the cost is lower. Types 316 & 321 are similar to 304 and occasionally used for automotive exhausts. Falcon-Fredles was founded in 2007 in Malaysia. Specialising in German marques and particularly the retrofit of original comfort and safety options which were not available due to the local car import policy. Company founder and CEO, Alfred Tan says, ‘Over time we expanded to offer various European aftermarket brands. We became Malaysian dealers for Caractere, CPA, DPE, DTE, DMC, Oettinger, Rieger, Kahn Design, QuickSilver Exhausts - which we still remain today. In 2018, we realised the huge potential market in China for prestige European brands. We looked at many brands to take on but soon realised that Quicksilver Exhausts had the best potential. QuickSilver had a great prestige brand reputation and a product range to match. QuickSilver’s catalogue met the Chinese market’s expectations but they lacked committed local representation.
