Inspired by Charleville’s unique astrological permutations, and dreamtime stories of the Bidjara people, Music for Stargazing will also feature the world-premiere of a new composition by William Barton, Yungingilla Boodaroo, which means Spirit of Mother in the Bidjara language.

This work in its simplest form is about landscape, the night sky and connection to country particularly for the Traditional Owners of the land, the Bidjara people.
In a single speck of red dust there is energy. It is a celebration of the cosmos and Bidjara dreamtime stories.
It is a recognition of language; a homage to the first words that were spoken on Bidjara country and how language was born. It is a reflection of the energy that the land contains.
Like the goori goori bird who was banished from Earth - his tail feathers set on fire as he took flight to the night sky. The sparks from his burning feathers created the stars and the smudge of the smoke formed the Milky Way.

This piece aims to share the legacy of the Bidjara people with the Charleville community and travellers passing through Country. It has been created for and with input from the Bidjara community.
