A Message from Our President & CEO Dear Subscribers and Friends: I am fond of a quote ascribed to legendary wit Oscar Wilde: “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.” So, as our world surges back to life, how fitting that we bring to you a Broadway Season jam-packed with dynamic shows that we think are Simply the Best! Our 45th Broadway season featuring the Taco/The White Family Foundation Broadway Series opens with our 21st national tour launch - the phenomenal hit, TINA - The Tina Turner Musical. As one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time with 12 Grammy Awards and more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history, this new musical reveals a matchless comeback story celebrating Tina Turner’s resilience and her triumph over tragedy as she becomes the global Queen of Rock’n’Roll. Direct from Broadway, MEAN GIRLS is the hilarious hit musical from another famous Tina – book writer Tina Fey; followed by TOOTSIE, the show Rolling Stone called "musical comedy heaven." JAGGED LITTLE PILL is a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette's world-changing album. The critically acclaimed and Tony Award-winning HADESTOWN is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience from singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin. From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, SIX transforms 500 years of historical heartbreak into an exuberant celebration of 21st century girl power. BEETLEJUICE is the hilarious and remarkably touching musical based on Tim Burton's classic film. The Encore Series opens with the triumphant return of Cameron Mackintosh's production of Boublil and Schönberg’s epic, LES MISÉRABLES. The optimism of a determined red-headed girl named ANNIE has inspired us time and time again and COME FROM AWAY’s messages of kindness and compassion during the darkest of times have resonated with audiences across America. Heartfelt thanks to our long-time Broadway Series title sponsor, Taco/The White Family Foundation, to WPRI 12, our Season Media Sponsor, and to our individual show sponsor, Navigant Credit Union; your steadfast support has been vitally important to our Theatre. We extend sincere appreciation to Cox Media as our long-time Encore Series Media Sponsor and we are deeply grateful for the support of BankNewport as our Family Night sponsor, along with Family Night Media Sponsors ABC 6 and NOW 93.3FM. October 25 – 30, 2022 Call it “musical comedy heaven” (Rolling Stone). Call it “the most uproarious new musical in years!” (The Hollywood Reporter). Call it TOOTSIE! This laugh-out-loud love letter to the theater tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult actor, who struggles to find work until one show-stopping act of desperation lands him the role of a lifetime. Featuring a hilarious Tony®-winning book by Robert Horn and an outrageously clever score by 2018 Tony®-winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), this New York Times Critic’s Pick is “a joyful delight” (The Washington Post) that’s “so packed with punchlines, it should be called a jokebox musical!” (Bloomberg). “In these turbulent times, when the world seems out of balance, we need a place to let the good times roll,” raves Rolling Stone. “TOOTSIE is it!”

Directed by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin, upcoming 1776) with a Tony®-winning book by Diablo Cody (Juno) and Grammy®-winning score, this electrifying production about a perfectly imperfect American family “vaults the audience to its collective feet” (The Guardian). “Redemptive, rousing and real, JAGGED LITTLE PILL stands alongside the original musicals that have sustained the best hopes of Broadway." (The New York Times) You live, you learn, you remember what it’s like to feel truly human… at JAGGED LITTLE PILL.

April 25 – 30, 2023 He earned his stripes on Broadway… now the ghost-with-the-most is coming to Providence. It’s showtime! Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set, and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, BEETLEJUICE is “SCREAMINGLY GOOD FUN!” (Variety). And under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every Day-O! Contains strong language, mature references, and a lot of the crazy, inappropriate stuff you would expect from a deranged demon. Recommended for ages 10+.
