Early Learners Academy (Ages 4-5 years) Kids’ Company Early Learners Academy is a full-week, full-day program throughout the school year focused on kindergarten readiness and designed to provide your child with enriching experiences in the areas of social, emotional, physical and intellectual development in a manner that is just right for preschoolers. Academy instructors hold a teaching license in elementary education and/or early childhood education, and are supported by an experienced staff member. Each classroom maintains a teacher-student ratio of 1:10. All children who are eligible for kindergarten beginning in the 2015-2016 school year and will be four years of age by September 1, 2014 can enroll. Early Learners Academy will be housed within one of our award-winning elementary schools.
Join in on the Frozen celebration! You will rotate through stations with your parent (or adult caregiver), dance among the bubbles, have a Frozen snowball fight, and best of all, meet Elsa! Choose between October 6th or October 13th. An adult must accompany all children. Don’t forget your camera!

Wish Upon a Ballet (Ages 3-6)
The Baby Signs Program is a simple and fun program using sign language to communicate with hearing babies and toddlers before they can talk. This 6-week series of fun and entertaining play classes for you and baby teaches simple everyday signs using songs, books and activities. Each week a new theme is introduced. Within that theme, you will learn 6-7 signs to use with baby. This dance program incorporates popular children’s stories and ballet stories to create a dance class that is more than ballet steps. Using musical instruments, parachutes and scarves you will create a complete fairy tale experience while skipping, leaping, jumping, and spinning. An introduction to the movements and vocabulary of ballet are taught in a fun and creative manner! Family and friends will be invited to observe a special performance at the end of each section. Girls and boys will need ballet shoes. Girls should wear a leotard and tights. Boys should wear comfortable clothes. Music Together (Ages 0-5 years with an Adult) Music Together is an engaging, awardwinning early childhood music and movement program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers and the grown ups who love them. These joy-filled, researchbased classes nurture each child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement as they support children’s overall development, their cognitive, social, physical, verbal and music development. Receive an illustrated songbook and both a CD and a digital download of the songs we’ll be working with so the fun and learning can continue at home. Classes are mixed-age so siblings can be together. Infants under eight months on the first day of the session attend at no cost with a paying sibling. Non-Separating Class Babies and parents enjoy songs, puppets, musical instruments and other fun activities in our bright and baby-safe classroom. Discover your baby’s developmental capacity and parenting strategies to enhance their growth.
Parent Separation Will your child start Kindergarten in 2015-2016? Ensure that you and your child are ready for the excitement and challenges of kindergarten. Your child will have an opportunity to practice kindergarten routines, while you discuss ways to help prepare them for their kindergarten experience in public or private school. Topics about independence, expectations, school behavior, transitions, academics and readiness to learn will be included.
• An expert parent educator will lead interactive discussions on feeding, sleeping, safety, brain development, balancing your life as a new parent and more. • Join anytime! Class registration is ongoing as long as we have openings. Maternity leave is accommodated and fees are prorated.

Multi-Cultural Family LIteracy Class
Gradual Separation Come to Edgewood School with your little ones, and explore many fun activities together! Spend time with other families and their young children singing songs, playing, and discovering activities in a typical school day. Parents will get information about raising young children, and how schools in the United States work. We will cover parenting topics such as behaviors of children, friendships, ways to build literacy skills, how to prepare your child for school, and how parents can academically support their children when they attend school. This class is free, but space is limited. Families from other districts are welcome! This class is in collaboration with Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Community Education Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs. Chess Club (Kindergarten-5th Grade) Learn the royal game of chess! West Chess is dedicated to the instruction and appreciation of the game of chess. Chess club is a fun time for first timers and experienced players. During chess club you will receive top flight instruction from a National Master Chess player with over 30 years teaching experience and a degree in Elementary Education. You will earn points for participation and achievement in Chess Club to win prizes! Chess Club members will also be invited to participate in optional chess tournaments and private lessons outside of Chess Club. These tournaments are not sponsored by Community Education. All equipment is provided for Chess Club. Come make some new friends!
Encourage your enthusiasm for art and help develop your drawing skills with a Young Rembrandts class. This new fall session begins with everyone’s favorite food - pizza! Drawings like sun and moon characters will teach you to transform simple shapes into fully-realized clever characters. Colorful drawings of a macaw parrot will help develop your sense of color. Awesome drawings like a detailed pirate ship and the friendly robot will inspire your sense of adventure. Art-rageous Art with Abrakadoodle (Kindergarten-5th Grade) Prickly projects and monkey masterpieces! Create amazing art with everything from drawing to sculpting and weaving. In this art-rageous art class, you’ll sculpt clay cacti and hedgehogs, try your hand at weaving, monkey around with drawing primates, paint with watercolor and more. Beauty Is A Beast (1st-8th Grade) Theatre is a great opportunity for kids to develop many life skills. Princess Beauty is a spoiled brat and the most beautiful person in the kingdom... on the outside. But inside she is mean and cruel. Her fairy godmother decides she needs to change and sends her to live amongst the peasants. Can she change her outer beauty to inner beauty? Maybe, if she can meet the right people! This program features speaking parts for up to 26 students with additional non-speaking roles if you prefer. During the production process, you will develop communication, public speaking, organization, teamwork and reading skills. Additionally, you will learn about theatre etiquette for actors and audience members. First Lego League with KingTec 2169 (4th-8th Grade) Join the league that will provide “The hardest fun you’ll ever have!” FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics program that will get you excited about science, math and technology! Each team of approximately 8 students will be given the same LEGO MINDSTROMS kit to use, a Robot Game Challenge, and a project; an actual real world issue that needs to be solved. Your team’s goal will be to come up with the best solution for each piece of the challenge. While this program is intended to be fun for all participants, it is a team competition and its success requires that all members be committed to fully participating. This is more than building with LEGOS. The competition includes the building of a group robot, a research project, and the development of a presentation. FIRST recommends successful teams meet for a minimum of 40 hours between the time kits arrive in September and the date of the competition in November or December. All teams are youth led, but each requires 2 adult volunteer coaches. Background checks are required on both coaches. Training sessions are available and no experience is necessary. Signing up with 2 coaches is the only way to guarantee a team will exist for you. FLL teams will meet at PLHS during KING TeC sessions. KING TeC mentors will be assigned to teams to provide guidance and assistance throughout the program. This will also allow teams to learn from other FLL teams. Team entry fees for optional regional competitions will be required if teams choose to compete. This program is offered in partnership between CE and KING TeC 2169.

Minnesota starwatch Party (Ages 6+) Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Prior Lake-Savage. ZAPS psat/sat Seminar (11th grade) ZAPS test-preparation seminars are carefully designed to help you do your personal best on the PSAT and/or SAT tests. Students who complete the ZAPS seminar and practice the tips and strategies at home, typically improve their scores. In the five-hour ZAPS seminar, you will be taught strategies for improving in all three subtests, take shortened practice tests that mirror the actual testing experience, and get suggestions for individualized study in the days leading up to the test. Driver’s Education (Ages 14-18) A comprehensive Driver Education program is offered through Community Education, including 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of private behind-the-wheel training as is required by the state of Minnesota for drivers under the age of 18. Our course includes defensive driving techniques, hands-on, dynamic curriculum and experienced, certified instructors. You are welcome to take the 30 hours of classroom instruction at age 14 or older, however you do need to be 15 to take the knowledge test to receive a permit. Babysitting- Online and Classroom Hybrid (Ages 11-15) The Red Cross offers Babysitting Certification online, but we feel that a practical application and experience using the information presented in the online course is important for many students. This hybrid option allows for all the learning required for certification, plus practice with these new skills. And, it only requires 3 hours of classroom time for busy families. To participate in this course, please register for the practical portion at www.priorlakesavagece.com (space is limited). Approximately 2 weeks prior to the practical course, this section will be confirmed or cancelled based on enrollment. Students in confirmed classes will be emailed the link to the Red Cross website, where the online course should be completed. No refunds will be issued after this time. This online portion must be complete prior to the classroom portion. Upon completion of the online program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Please bring that Certificate of Completion to the practical application class. This session will cover baby care, such as bottle feeding, spoon feeding, and diapering. New and returning students are invited. Arm band levels for returning students, the addition of assistant instructors as needed, focus on strategy, focus on fine tuning, middle school fencing league, and more keep this program fresh each quarter. With the ever increasing popularity of the sport and with many students returning year after year, the instruction has been fine-tuned. New students will learn the fencing basics of advance, retreat, thrust, lunge, etc. Returning students will work on economy of motion, setup attacks, combination attacks and adding new moves to their skill set. Middle schoolers can participate in our Middle School Fencing League. A High School fencing league may be added if interest expands. All students will work towards arm-band advancement with the ultimate goal of reaching the ninth level black band! Safety is our first priority. We supply safety swords, protective masks & jackets, and a high-octane, inclusive environment. For safety considerations, please wear long pants and athletic shoes. Section #6113B will likely include team meets with other Youth Enrichment League Teams throughout the Metro. Schedules are being finalized and will be available online prior to class start date. Learn to write your own story. Discover and develop who you are by looking at the values you believe in, the emotions they evoke and how you want to present yourself to the future! You will need this information for writing personal statements, college application essays and interviews. Uncover the “guts” of who you are so it describes the genuine you! The “THIS (is who) I AM” ™ program has been developed by the instructor, Kate Singer, for high school sophomores to twenty something’s to help each individual uncover who they really are. This population often has verbal recognition of their values and beliefs but struggle to identify the written words used to describe them when identifying their ideas. By participating in this program, you will learn to write your own story by identifying the values, emotions and personality traits you already possess to reveal your identity now. La ola del lago The district’s new Spanish Immersion option, La ola del lago, is now available to students starting in kindergarten. The English translation is “wave of the lake,” symbolizing the natural resources of our community and the district’s commitment to Environmental Education. Call 952-226-0903 for information. Technology PLSAS has implemented a 1:1 (student to computing device) program at 8th grade using the Apple iPad Mini to create a seamless and dynamic educational experience for students. In addition, iPad carts are available to all students throughout the district. FAB Lab at PLHS As an E-STEM and 1:1 technology district, our students are focused on inquiry and real world problem-solving. In our small scale fabrication laboratory, students will be able to create almost anything using some of the same technology and equipment found in Minnesota businesses and used by today’s work force. Non-Endorsement Policy - Prior Lake-Savage Community
Education contracts with specialists in their fields who are interested in presenting classes in their areas of expertise to the community. We do not endorse the opinions or business affiliations of the instructors.
Class Confirmations - Community Education does not mail
Satisfaction Guarantee - Please call Community Education (CE) Office at 952.226.0080 if you are not satisfied with any class or activity in which you participated. We appreciate being notified as soon as a concern is noticed, so that we may have the opportunity to improve the program for all participants. Refunds - Your money will be refunded if your class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or if the class is filled before we receive your registration. If you choose to cancel your class registration, to be eligible for a full refund we need to receive your request no later than 4pm, five business days prior to the first day of class. You must call or visit the CE Office to request a cancellation. Cancellations cannot be processed online by a consumer. Refunds are not issued after that time due to commitments made to instructors. Cancellations received after five business days will be subject to no refund. A $10 processing fee will be deducted from any refund. Cancellation - Community Education reserves the right to withdraw a course due to lack of enrollment or loss of a suitable facility. If we have to cancel a class, every effort will be made to contact all the participants who preregistered. Please include on your registration form a phone number where you can be contacted during the day. Community Education assumes no responsibility for reaching registrants who do not provide an accessible daytime phone number. Whenever possible, messages will be left on voicemail/answering machines. If an email is provided at the time of registration, notifications will also be sent to the address provided. Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or for other unavoidable reasons. These sessions are made up whenever possible. If school closes during the day due to bad weather, Community Education will cancel all activities. Listen to WCCO 830 AM radio for official school closure notices. Call 952.226.0080 for evening or weekend cancellation information.
Discounts - Sign up with a friend or sibling by mail, on the phone, or
in person, and you’ll each get 10% off your total fee (maximum discount of $15). You must be taking the same classes and request the discount at the time of registration. This discount cannot be combined with any other coupon or offer. Not valid on ECFE or Driver’s Education classes or where otherwise noted. All UCare Minnesota members may take up to a $15 discount per class. Any coupons used will be accepted with registration form by mail or dropped off only.

If there is a last minute change, signs are posted at each site with your class information, including class title, room number and time of classes. Privacy - The information requested on registration forms will be used to verify eligibility as well as determine staff, facility and equipment needs. You or your child’s registration information may be provided to school district staff, volunteers, instructors, the school district attorney, insurer and auditor. Your email information is for internal use only and will not be sold or solicited. Photographs or videos of classes in action may be taken and used for district publications and web pages. If you object to having your picture used, please notify the Community Education Office at 952.226.0080 each time you register. Community Use of Facilities - Need a place to meet? Community members and organizations are invited to apply to use district facilities and grounds for their meetings and activities. Community Education Services coordinates all community group or individual requests for facility usage after school, on evenings, weekends and during summer months. Tuition Assistance - Reduced fees, scholarships, and payment plans are available for families experiencing financial hardship. Assistance is limited to one program per person in each quarter with a limit of $100 per person/per quarter. Some programs are not eligible. You must be a resident of ISD 719 to qualify. Call 952.226.0080 to request assistance. Lost or Stolen Items - Community Education is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please do not bring valuables with you to class. Student Absences - To be eligible to participate in Community Education programs, classes, or events, students are expected to be in school all day. Students who are ill or miss for other reasons not considered excused absences (such as a doctor’s appointment), will not be allowed to participate in Community Education programs on that day.

• Provide an accessible daytime phone number and an additional emergency contact when registering your child for programs. • For After School Classes, please include your child’s teacher’s name, your child’s typical after school routine, and bus number if applicable. • Please notify the Community Education Office at 952.226.0080 as soon as possible if your child will not be attending a session of a class for which they are registered. • If someone other than a parent will be picking up your child from class, please let the instructor and/or a Community Education staff person know ahead of time. • Drop off your child in the classroom on time each session. • Elementary After School CE Participants will be dismissed from their elementary classroom to Kids’ Company (KC) Staff. Students will eat snack (provided by CE) with KC. CE class instructors will pick up registered class participants from Kids’ Company. • Pick up your child in the classroom at the class ending time. Security codes will be issued to parents on or before the first day of class (at locked buildings). Watch your email for that code. If you cannot pick up on time, you are expected to make other arrangements for your child ahead of time. Late pickups are subject to a fee. • Inform the instructor AND a Community Education staff person of any allergies, special needs, or behavioral concerns that may help us to provide the best environment and instruction for your child and the other students enrolled. • The behavior of students is expected to be appropriate for the class learning environment. The instructor and Community Education staff reserve the right to dismiss students immediately, without a refund, when behavior is not appropriate or jeopardizes the safety of them or other students.
