ECFE classes have three components: 1. Parent and Child Interaction: an early childhood teacher provides developmentally appropriate activities for parents and children to enjoy together. 2. Guided Play for Children: a portion of the class is devoted to learning through play with our staff while parents participate in parent education topics, depending on the child’s age this may occur in a separate room or in the children’s class space. 3. Early Childhood Screening

Ask a Parent Educator

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are important times of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is growing and developing offered through the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools. Between the ages of 3 and 4, screening can detect possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before they start school. Parents accompany their child through the approximate hour-long process. After the screening activities, the screener shares information on a child’s growth, development, and learning.

Need a fresh set of eyes on any of the following situations? Cooperation • Toilet training • New baby • What’s “normal” for your child • Organization • Family stress • School achievement • New grade level • Parent/child communication

An important step on the road to Kindergarten includes Early Childhood Screening.

Call today for an appointment. 952.226-0975

Join us at screening as soon as your child reaches 3 yrs 2 months. Discover more about their development and learning, such as: • Thinking, language, and communication skills • Social and emotional development • Large and small muscle coordination • Height and weight • Vision and hearing • Immunization status

6

• Have a question about tantrums, sibling relationships, bedtime routines, healthy eating or want to talk about developmental milestones? • This confidential one-on-one consultation is FREE to all Prior Lake-Savage families with children ages birth through 5 years. • An experienced parent educator will connect with you by phone, e-mail, Skype, a home visit, or by appointment at Edgewood School. This class is geared towards children who will be entering preschool in 2012- 2013 and will be 3 years old on or before March 22nd. Parents and caregivers will attend with their child and gradually reduce their classroom participation so that by the last two weeks of class, they are simply dropping their children off in preparation for preschool.
