Circle of Friends Preschool

Circle of Friends Preschool: 952-226-0956

Circle of Friends Preschool was established in 1995 and is part of the Prior Lake-Savage School District. Our mission is to provide a safe environment where young children of all abilities can grow and experience success, and their parents can be partners in learning.

We serve children who are 3, 4 and 5 years old with a program that combines developmentally appropriate skills with academic learning opportunities. We help prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills needed to progress and succeed by collaborating with district kindergarten and early childhood special education staff.

School Readiness: 952-226-0956

2010-2011 REGISTRATION HAS STARTED!

School Readiness helps families with children 3-5 years of age prepare for a successful school experience. If you have concerns but are not eligible for services from other local programs, this may be for you. School Readiness provides learning experiences for children and parents before children enter Kindergarten. Scholarships and reduced fees are available.

Early Childhood Screening: 952-226-0975

The early childhood years, from birth to the start of kindergarten, are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at age three to four. The screening process identifies, at an early age, possible health or learning concerns so children can get help before starting school. All children need to be screened before enrolling in kindergarten. If your child is of screening age and you’d like to schedule an appointment, or if you are conscientiously opposed to screening, please contact our office. E-Mail: www.ecscreening@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us

Home Visits: 952-226-0950

ECFE can come to you! Home Visits can be arranged if you are unable to attend an ECFE class at the Family Center. If you have questions regarding your infant, toddler or preschooler and would like to discuss them at home, schedule a one-on-one home visit with a licensed parent educator. A licensed teacher can bring toys and activities to you at home and provide information on: • Developmental Stages • Parenting Challenges • Community Resources

Page 3

• Setting Goals • Solving Problems • Learning Through Play

• Circle of Friends Preschool • ECFE Classes • Home Visits

• Parent Resources • Parent Education

E-mail a Parent Educator: ECFE is offering a wonderful service. Anytime you have a question about parenting just e-mail your question or concern. One of our licensed parent educators will respond with information to help you make wise parenting decisions.

parentingquestions@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us

Family Connections This class is offered to families who have children, infants to 5 years of age, who have special needs. It is a collaboration between Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). Our class is a great opportunity for you and your child to meet other families that are confronted and dealing with struggles and joys of raising a child who has special needs. It is also a wonderful time to see an ECSE teacher or team of teachers in action working with your child in a social setting. Our ECSE and ECFE teams will be available for individual consultation as well. Parents will have an opportunity to meet as a group with an ECFE parent educator to discuss issues and gain resources that are relevant to you and your family. There is no fee for this class; however preregistration is necessary. If you are interested, contact your special education teacher or case manager.

Advisory Council Corner - Fundraising by Michelle Barclay, Council Member

As chairperson of the 2009-2010 ECFE Advisory Council, I wanted to share with you one of the functions our Council performs; FUNDRAISING. Fundraising dollars are used for purchasing materials and services to supplement Family Center programming. Through our volunteer work with past fundraising projects such as Scholastic Book Fairs, Box-top Collecting, various sales such as t-shirts, cookbooks and garage sales and a Parade-A-Thon Event, we have helped to purchase books and curriculum supplies, playground equipment and special handicapped accessible playground surfacing. We have also helped to pay appearance fees for parent/topic speakers. Now, as our district faces state funding cuts and budget shortages, community support is needed more than ever. The Family Center is exploring playground enhancements that will create a more eco-friendly experience for our youngsters as well as the purchase of stateof-the art Smart Board technology for some of our classrooms. In April, we’ll be hosting a Kid’s Stuff Garage Sale with the goal Early Childhood Family Education Advisory Council of raising an additional $2,000.00 for these projects. Whether Members: Michelle Barclay, Jennifer Bohlen, Molly Docken, Lori Ford, by volunteering your time, or financially contributing during our April Johnson, Heather Knutson, Melissa Legg, Julie Loftus, Kristin Olsen, fundraising efforts, the Advisory Council and Family Center staff Dean Peter, Mandy Reinert Nash, Valerie Selle, Vicki Spieler, appreciate your support.
