Early Childhood Screening: 952-226-0975

The early childhood years, from birth to the start of kindergarten, are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at ages three to four. The screening process identifies, at an early age, possible health or learning concerns so children can get help before starting school. All children need to be screened before enrolling in kindergarten. If your child is of screening age and you’d like to schedule an appointment, or if you are conscientiously opposed to screening, please contact our office. E-Mail: ecscreening@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us

E- m a i l a P a r e n t E d u c ato r : Do you ever wish you had someone available to answer your parenting questions...How do I get my child to eat their vegetables? When should my baby sleep through the night? ECFE is offering a wonderful service to families in the Prior Lake-Savage areas. Anytime you have a question about parenting just e-mail your question or concern. One of our licensed parent educators will respond with information to help you make wise parenting decisions.

Family Center Programs School Readiness: 952-226-0956

Family Connections This class is offered to families who have children, infants to 5 years of age, with special needs. This class is a great opportunity for you and your child to meet other families that are confronted and dealing with the struggles and joys of raising a child who has special needs. It is also a wonderful time to see a teacher or team of teachers in action working with your child in a social setting. Our ECFE team will be available for individual consultation as well. Parents will have an opportunity to meet as a group with an ECFE parent educator to discuss issues and gain resources that are relevant to your family. There is no fee for this class; however preregistration is necessary. If you are interested, contact your special education teacher or case manager.

School Readiness helps families with children 3-5 years of age prepare for a successful school experience. If you have concerns but are not eligible for services from other local programs, this may be for you. School Readiness provides learning experiences for children and parents before children enter Kindergarten. Scholarships and reduced fees are available. • Circle of Friends Preschool • ECFE Classes • Home Visits

• Parent Resources • Parent Education

Adults and Children, Grades 5+ ISD 719 Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) and Community Education Services are very proud to invite Barb Kavan, ISD 719’s Special Education Coordinator and her son, Stefan, to speak on this disorder and their recently published book Trainman. Trainman was co-written with Barb’s son Stefan who has a form of ASD. Social acceptance and friendships are key components in quality of life and general human development. But for most children on the autism spectrum, being socially accepted does not come easy. This true story shows how the frequent disconnect between children with ASD and their nondisabled peers can be bridged by capitalizing on the child’s special interest, leading to acceptance, friendship and increased self-esteem. There will be a Q&A after the presentation and also time to purchase the book ($16.95) before and after the event. Students 5th grade and up are welcome to come at no extra cost with an adult. This presentation qualifies for 1.5 CEU’s.

Advisory Council Corner: “ECFE is a Great Choice” Parenting is the most rewarding job in the world, but have you ever noticed how many decisions come along with this gig? It starts at birth and continues until they leave the nest. We decide a million different things for our children. Some are easy choices and some are anxiously deliberated over. What diapers should we use? Which pediatrician should we see? Do we buy our baby food or make it? Should we let our baby cry it out or sleep with us? How do we even begin potty training? Which preschool should they go to? What activities and sports should we sign them up for? When can they go on their first date? What college will they attend? The decisions are endless but I can speak from experience and say that one of the easiest decisions I ever made was to take an ECFE class. It only takes a few moments to fill out the Early Childhood Family Education Advisory Council registration form…you can even register online. There is a wide variety of classes at different times and days to choose from. Members: Michelle Barclay, Jennifer Bohlen, Jenn DuBore, Ursula Hutnik, Heather Monserud, Jennifer Nemecek, Kristin Olsen, Dean Peter, Come join us this spring! ECFE is a great choice!
