Easing the Burden of Medicare Costs

55 and Older

Seniors pay a much larger share of their income to out-of-pocket health costs than non-seniors do... Understanding the differences in the plans offered can reduce your cost. When you attend an insurance company sponsored program, they will tell you what they want you to know about their plan... but, is that all you need to know? Learn the differences between Medicare Supplement plans and Medicare Advantage plans and how the recent addition of Part D (prescription) programs has contributed to the confusion many seniors experience. Certain plans offer highlyeffective coverage with significant monthly savings. Frequently, employer-sponsored programs are the most costly (by hundreds of dollars) after retirement.

9

If you will soon become eligible for Medicare or you have been a participant for some time, this workshop will provide information about enrollment, eligibility, coverage, cost-efficiency and options. Our goal is to help you become informed about Medicare in the 21st Century! #4174 Thu, Feb. 18 Prior Lake High School Jim Matson Centuple Financial Svs.

Women, Weight and Hormones: 7 Strategies for Fighting Fat After 40

Are you finding that fat is collecting around your mid-section and no matter how well you watch what you eat or how much you exercise that weight is not budging? If this is your story, then your inability to lose weight probably has more to do with your hormone levels than anything else. Until you discover and correct any imbalances, trying to lose weight will be like shoveling sand against the tide. Fluctuating hormone levels at mid-life very much affect weight gain. It is not only the level of hormones but the ratio that’s so crucial in determining how much and where you gain body fat. In this workshop you will learn 7 key strategies for fighting fat and losing weight, including: which hormones can make you fatter; why hormone ratios are important; why you are gaining weight around the middle; what HRT or birth control pills have to do with weight gain; which food choices make this worse; how to have your hormone levels checked reliably; what steps need to be taken to safely break the vicious cycle of hormone related weight gain; and how to help your body begin to lose weight again. #6082 Mon, Jan. 26 Prior Lake High School Janice Novak

presented by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka #2444 - Thursday, Feb. 25 - 7-9 p.m. Prior Lake High School Auditorium

On the surface, power struggles look like a tug of war. Parents and kids pitted against one another. Opposing forces pulling in different directions. Two individuals, at odds with one another, both determined to WIN! The trouble is that if you win by simply over-powering your child, you still feel lousy. There is little pleasure in victory when your child is left feeling resentful and angry. If you lose, it can feel even worse. Every family experiences power struggles. But these daily tugs of war are not inevitable. This seminar helps you unravel the mysteries of power struggles by offering insights into individual differences and normal patters, recognizing that every child is unique and every discipline situations is different. Kurcinka views power struggles as an opportunity to teach your child essential life skills, such as how to calm oneself, to be assertive, to solve problems and to work cooperatively with you and others. Included are successful strategies for: Understanding emotions Managing intensity Identifying triggers Unlikely as it may seem in the heat of the battle, conflict really does present an opportunity to connect with your child - for a lifetime.

The early childhood years, from birth to the start of kindergarten, are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening (ECS) is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing. Screening takes place at Edgewood School, 5304 WestWood Drive in Prior Lake. The preferred age to screen is between the ages of 3 and 4 years old. All children need to be screened before enrolling in kindergarten. If your child is of screening age, please contact us ASAP by CALLING: 952-2260975 or E-MAILING: ecscreening@priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us (Contact ECS at the above number, if conscientiously opposed to the screening process.)

Technology has become such a vital component in the world we live in. Software is always changing and upgrades to products and systems evolve constantly. That is why Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools is committed to offering computer classes in our community to aid in our commitment to lifelong learning.

Dr. Sue Ann Gruver Superintendent

Technology is very much present in all of our schools as well. This school year for example, every elementary classroom in the district received SMART Boards that allow students to interact with their learning. If you have an elementary student in your family you have probably heard about the SMART Board that is now in their classroom. Teachers in all grade levels are using this interactive whiteboard technology to enhance their teaching and bring new and exciting resources to the classroom. In short, this technology marries the white board with the classroom computer. The lesson plan is projected onto the whiteboard which then serves as a huge touch screen that teachers and students can use. Dry erase markers are replaced with “digital ink” so that students can practice handwriting and drawing. The options are endless with this technology and as you can tell, the classroom is looking far different than when many of today’s parents attended school. Students are being prepared for the 21st century. We are doing everything we can to not only ready them for their future, but engage them early by meeting their learning needs in ways that are relevant, meaningful and exciting. A huge thank you to the Prior Lake-Savage Area Educational Foundation and the many PTC parents and students who fundraised for SMART Boards to help make this technology a reality in our schools. The next time you are in one of our schools, stop in and see one of the SMART Boards being used. I guarantee you will want to “go back” to elementary school!
