Come and create your water rocket to be used during the “It’s Not Rocket Science” program on Saturday, August 2. Bring your creativity and an empty two-liter plastic soda bottle. We will provide materials to make the rocket’s fins as well as decorations to personalize your rocket. We will have some extra two-liter bottles on hand as well. Craft materials are free and are made available on a drop-in basis while supplies last.

Physics is all about trying to figure out what makes the universe tick. Come and experience physics in action with Dr. Karl Saunders, Associate Professor of Physics from Cal Poly. Move an electric current with your finger, levitate a ball to learn how airplanes fly, rotate on a stool by spinning a bike wheel, and use lasers to create diffraction patterns. This fun afternoon of physics will help explain laws of motion, light, electricity, vibrations, and sound.

Join marine life educator Carolyn Skinder (San Simeon Coastal Discovery Center and NOAA Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary) to find out how to identify local marine mammals and learn about their amazing adaptations to the sea. Touch real fur pelts, skulls and bones and play interactive games that will help you understand how marine mammals communicate. We’ll also learn about what to do if you see a sick or injured seal, sea lion or sea otter, and how to keep these animals healthy.
