Dear Reader,
I&am&so&excited&for&this&summer.&Though,&can&I&be&honest?&It&is&slightly& uncomfortable.....&and&I’m&not&talking&about&the&weather.&It&is&hard&sometimes& to&sit&still&during&seasons&of&change,&but&that&is&what&I’m&feeling&in&my&heart& right&now.&It’s&hard&to&admit&that&we’re&in&a&time&of&indecision,&or&that&we&don’t& have&all&of&the&answers,&yet&that&is&exactly&where&I’m&finding&myself&right&now!& I&know&that&if&I&can&find&it&in&my&heart&to&listen&to&the&whispers,&the&answers&will& come.&So&yes,&I&am&uncertain&what&the&future&is&bringing&for&this&lil&publication.& Yet,&I&am&at&the&same&time&so&excited,&humbled,&and&honored&to&be&sharing&yet& another&issue&beautyQpacked&of&inspiration!& Warmly,

This past winter my family and I had the opportunity to travel to Florida to make some new friends. Not only did we get to meet kindred spirits, we were lucky enough to stay at their 100 year old cottage in Central Florida. Talk about farmhouse charm! Lazy mossy oaks, acre upon acre of green horse pasture, and a home filled with so much love and cuteness I could hardly stand it! This adventure and lovely home has inspired the hubby and I to downsize. How awesome to be so cozy, all together, with less space and ‘things’ between us. For now it is only a dream but who knows what the future may hold. It is exciting for sure!

Old Florida colors
It&is&hard&not&to&be&enchanted&with&the&colors&of& Florida.&Especially&coming&from&a&long,&cold,& sunless,&colorless&Upper&Michigan&winter......&but& yet&I&was&so&pleasantly&surprised.&Where&were&the& tacky&hot&pink&amingos?&The&blinding&neons?& Yes,&these&can&be&beautiful&in&their&own&right&but& these&toned&down&natural&colors&are&what&truly& speak&to&me.&(It&is&pretty&easy&to&be&blinded&with& brightness&when&coming&from&the&UP&of& Michigan!)&From&lovely&St.&Augustine,&to&the& small&ďŹ shing&ports,&to&the&quiet&State&parks&of& the&Pan&Handle.&Yes,&I&do&seek&out&thos& abandoned&run&down&buildings&also.&You&can&see& they&are&still&loved&for&and&cared&for&in&that& perfectly&imperfect&way.&I&love&the&lack&of& updates&and&the&old&school&charm&and&colors&of& yesterday.&How&I’d&love&a&weathered&board&home& with&the&mint&green&trim&of&this&old&garage!&So& inspring!&What&colors&are&inspiring&you&lately?
In&the&charming&town&of& Houghton,&Michigan&lies&an& equally&charming&shop& called&Once&and&Again. Here&is&where&I&go&when&I& need&a&burst&of&color&in&my& life.&Many&of&the&items&are& handmade&and&repurposed& and&I&personally&know&and& love&the&ladies&who&run&the& shop.&They&are&sure&to&make& your&shopping&experience&a& most&pleasant&one!

GROWING CHIVES
Chives.... such a humble yet delicious early summer delicacy! In the garden they add the perfect cottage touch and on the palate, they’re a must ! Subtle onion, that is what I think of when I think of chives. They are also completely fuss free in the garden, coming up year after year. You may occasionally wish to divite them. I love them planted near my rose bushes as they are thought to deter rose loving insects.

Both the flowers and the leaves are tasty. For more greens, pinch off flowers. Or allow to bloom and trim plant down to only a few inches, using all parts.
Chive Dressing
fill&container&or&jar&with&chive&flowers. Add&half&vinegar,&half&olive&oil. Stir/shake&well.&Let&sit&for&aprox.&1&week,&strain& out&flowers&and&enjoy.
Chive Pork Marinade Olive&Oil Juice&from&one&lemon chives&chopped garlic&chopped salt&and&pepper&to&taste
Let&meat&marinade&for&6Q12&hours&and& then&cook&to&preferred&doneness.&Also& delicious&on&steak&and&other&beef&cuts.
Fried Potatoes Fry&potatoes&and&onions&in&a&pan&of&bacon&fat. Add&garlic&and&chives.&And&add&salt&and&pepper&to& taste. So&simple,&yet&so&delicious.

I&am&lucky&enough&to&live& where&the&Lupines&grow&like& wildfire&in&the&fields&and& ditches.&And&while&their& beauty&is&beyond&compare&in& the&wild,&yet&I&still&love& having&them&up&close&in&my& own&garden.&Something& about&the&romantic&shades& and&fleeting&full&petals& stretching&upwards......&until& at&last&they&bid&goodbye,&just& as&fast&as&they&came.&

There are several varieties of Lupines available on the market in the form of seeds and plants. They come in all shades of beauty, from red, to pink, yellow, cream, blues, and purple. My favorite way to get the plant in my own garden is to start seeds from the wild. Collect the seeds when the petals are starting to split open, but haven’t completely fallen. Gently shake the seeds loose. Freeze seeds for 1-2 weeks and then start in a loose potting mix for best results. They will also readily self seed in your garden, but I always start a few after my seeds have ripened to have a ‘guarantee’ of more lupines to come. They will not come true to color. But the surprise is part of the fun! It has been my experience that they work best as biennieal, being replace every other year by off-spring keeps the flowers and plants in great health. They aren’t the longest lasting as cut flowers, but I can never resist. My favorite way to display them is in an old galvanized bucket in a very informal manner. Happy Lupine Growing!

6&eggs&seperated 2&sticks&butter 9&0z&good&dark&chocolate 1/3&cup&honey 3&drops&young&living&essential&oil
Melt&chocolate&and&butter&in&saucepan. Stir&in&honey&and&set&aside&to&cool. Whip&egg&whites&to&sti&peaks. Add&egg&yellows&to&cooled&chocolate&mixture. Add&3&drops&EO. Fold&chocolate/egg&yellows&into&egg&whites bake&at&350F&for&35&minutes.

1/4&cup&epsom&salt 1/4&cup&sea&salt 1/4&cup&organic&oil&(good&skin&ones&such&as&olive&oil,&jojoba&oil,& or&V6&carrier&oil) 12&drops&Young&Living&essential&oil,&or&oil&of&choice 1&TBS&course&ground&coee&(opt) Stir&salts&in&a&half&pint&size&jar.&Add&oils&and&stir&well.&If&using&as& a&bath&salt,&emit&the&carrier&oil&and&just&add&the&essential&oil.& Add&1/4Q1/2&cup&mix&to&warm&bath&water.&If&using&as&a&scrub&it& is&best&on&the&feet&as&the&salts&can&be&a&bit&abrasive.&I&love&it&on& my&whole&body&though,&so&do&what&works&for&you. Lemon&and&other&citrus&oils&are&sun&sensitive.&So&do&not&use& on&skin&that&will&be&exposed&to&sunlight&with&12Q24&hours.& Other&awesome&options&are&lavender&oil&and&peppermint&oil.
