• You will enjoy being part

of an outstanding research culture, with an unparalleled group of staff research specialisms and a lively postgraduate student body. • Our students work with a world-leading faculty in areas from European popular genres and art cinema to stardom, documentary, and experimental film. • Our research encompasses a wide range of national cinemas (American and East Asian as well as European) and examines topics such as transnational identity, queer cinema, gender and ethnicity, cinema and urbanity, and new media.

• Interdisciplinary

researchers can focus on the relationships between film and other disciplines such as philosophy, psychoanalysis, literature, geography, music, and art installation. • Alongside their research, our students take part in skills training within the department and across the University of London, teaching on our undergraduate degree, and working on film festivals and scholarly events across London’s thriving film culture.

We are also part of the Screen Studies Group, formed across the University of London, which offers PhD training and opportunities to present research among peers. Whether in London or Hong Kong, our students take advantage of networking opportunities and locate their research in a wider world.

King’s really is a great place to study. Obviously you can’t beat the central location in the heart of London (and just across the river from the BFI Southbank, perfect for a film student), but most important is having the freedom to undertake your research whilst being supported by a dynamic intellectual community.
