“On a crowded bus at midday, Raymond Queneau observes one man accusing another of jostling him deliberately. When a seat is vacated, the first man appropriates it. Later, in another part of town, Queneau sees the man being advised by a friend to sew another button on his overcoat.” These posters are based off of Raymond Queneau’s book, Exercises in Style, which takes the unexceptional story above and breaks it into different versions. For this project, I broke apart three of his variations and interpreted them using an appropriate typeface for each theme.

For my Independent Type Project, I wanted to take a highly popular typeface and see how much I could change it while keeping each letter consistent with the rest of the family. I decided to use Futura, since it has regained popularity in the last decade (i.e. Wes Anderson films), to see how many variations I could make.
