Thank You! By Britt Nelson Director, Plateau Outreach Ministries Each year Plateau Outreach Ministries, in partnership with the Courier Herald, runs stories about our Neighbors in Need. These are real stories of families and individuals who have come to us looking for help. Sharing these stories coincides with our busy holiday season and the beginning of winter. We hope they give a glimpse of our days and the work we do on your behalf. During this time we see great need and also a great outpouring from a community eager to help. We are blessed to live in this community where one neighbor truly cares for another. We want to extend a very genuine THANK YOU to the many, many people, churches, businesses and groups who donated to Neighbors in Need and helped us through the holidays. In addition to the many names you see below, are many more who wish to remain anonymous. Thank you all for enabling us to continue providing help within our own community! The club is in its fourth year at Enumclaw High. Team adviser Jim LovellFord said this year the team has an excellent shot to advance to and beyond the state tournament in Issaquah, Jan. 26. LovellFord said the team’s task was to build, “…two pairs of robots (four robots total) competing against each other in a 12-by-12 foot field.” LovellFord said the challenges are to: (1) pick up to four, 2-inch cubes and place them into baskets which are situated on teeter-totters; (2) push these same type of cubes into scoring areas on the field;

(3) raise flags up flag poles by twirling a pulley system and (4) go up a plank and after attaching the robot to a chinup bar, lift the robot off the ground. Different points are assigned depending on the complexity of the task. The club members are Preston Went, Alayah Woodley, Michael Pedersen, Bryn Zeman-Witzel, Chris Hogan, Haley Unger, C.J. Eckblad, Nathaniel Allen, Patrick Schwendeman, Chase Vranizan, Mia Malgarini, Corrina Garton, Cody van Haalen, Jacob Hechter, Paul Crew, Alex Heberank, Brent Leffers, David Mundt, Trent Johnson, J.J. ment, including but not limited to instructional hardware and software, infrastructure upgrades, and training to integrate new technologies into classroom instruction.” If authorized by the voters, tech levy taxes would be collected at a rate estimated at 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value each year. For the owner of a $250,000 property, that means an additional $125 annually. White River tried once before to pass a technology levy, putting a fouryear measure before district voters in the spring of 2008. That request was denied.
