So, what’s your major? Get used to this question—you’ll be hearing it a lot over the next few years. Whether you declare a major before you enroll or need some time to decide, PSU can help you get to where you want to go. And you have plenty of majors to choose from (see page 9). No major yet? No problem. Some students start college with a major in mind. Others—about a third of entering first-year students—are still deciding. The Department of University Studies offers a personalized advising program designed to help you explore academic options and choose an appropriate major. Dedicated faculty and staff will get to know you, welcome you to university life, and serve as academic advisors until you choose a major and move on to a home department. With their help, you’ll be better prepared to graduate within four years and put your education to good use.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
REAL-WORLD OPPORTUNITIES
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING Research and service learning At PSU, learning takes place both in and out of the classroom, throughout the region and around the world. Whether you’re a first-year student or a senior, and regardless of your major, you’ll have the chance to apply your coursework to the real world through research projects and a wide variety of short- and long-term service-learning opportunities that combine community service with coursework. PSU students have examined water quality from samples they’ve collected from local rivers, developed business plans to help area businesses, analyzed the biological clocks of horseshoe crabs at the Seacoast, studied media impact on childhood obesity, researched climate trends in Iceland, worked with community leaders on social issues in the Dominican Republic, and so much more. What will you do at PSU?

STUDENT LIFE
Where you’ll live “Within the first hour of moving into Blair Hall, people had knocked on my door and introduced themselves. The best part about living in a res hall is living among friends. You can meet up with them and walk to dinner together, go to classes together, or just hang out.” BRANDON RICH ’17 music
PSU’s 170-acre campus is home to seven residence halls, two student apartment complexes, and EcoHouse, where students live and learn about sustainability. All rooms are furnished with the basics for you and your roommates: beds, dressers, desks, chairs, and closets. The fun part is decorating your space and making it your own! All residence halls are co-ed and have a live-in, professional residence director as well as student staff who are available to support and assist students and help organize recreational and social events. Residence halls are also equipped with Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and community space with TVs and recreational equipment. PSU’s campus size fosters quality interpersonal connections, increased participation in campus life, and greater access to a wide range of support systems. Four of our residence halls offer communities with programming centered around specific themes, including service, health and wellness, international/cultural exploration, and LGBTQ and allies.

What you’ll eat The PSU campus has a large variety of snacking and dining options. Whatever you’re craving, Prospect Dining Hall has it: choose from home-cooked favorites, a fully loaded salad bar, vegetarian and gluten-free options, pizza, desserts—there’s even a walk-up window for togo orders. At the HUB, you can grab a quick bite at the Union Grille or a bagel and coffee at the Daily Paws. While you’re at Lamson Library, stop by the Commons Café for a latte and a muffin. Along the edge of campus on Main Street you’ll find Thai, deli, Chinese, Mexican, pizza, burgers, and more. 24
What you can do Do what you love or try something new! See a performance at the Silver Center for the Arts, ice skate at Hanaway Rink, cheer the Panthers on to victory at a game, take a yoga class, work out in the Fitness Center, shop on Main Street—whatever you’re into, there’s always something to do on or around campus. And don’t forget the lakes and mountains that surround PSU—perfect for hiking, biking, climbing, skiing, snowboarding, or just relaxing.
