CEPT University is a leading institution offering undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in the areas of Architecture, Planning & Public Policy, Technology, Design, Infrastructure, Geomatics & Space Applications and Environment & Climate Change Studies. The University was established by an Act of Gujarat State Legislature in 2005. Its constituent School of Architecture was established in 1962, followed by School of Planning (1972), School of Building Science and Technology (1982) and School of Interior Design (1991). The undergraduate programmes receive grants from the State Government and five postgraduate programmes receive grants from the AICTE. The University has also instituted a Doctoral Programme of three years duration in the areas of Planning and Public Policy, Design, Architecture and Technology. All the academic programmes are recognized nationally and internationally for their excellence. CEPT University has highly qualified faculty known for their contribution to academics and research. The University has exchange programmes with several international universities.


Philosophy

Knowledge with wisdom is the motto of the university. CEPT University through its programmes strives to make students aware of the multidimensional issues of contemporary society and to meet the challenges arising in resolving these issues with gaining knowledge and wisdom. Innovative changes in curriculum and teaching methods are undertaken regularly to keep pace with the advances in the relevant areas. Considering the professional nature of the disciplines dealing with human habitation and the built form, a number of experts from the industry / profession regularly teach at CEPT University as visiting faculty. CEPT University aspires not only to train competent technocrats but also to increase the students' sensitivity to emotional, spiritual, cultural and aesthetic dimensions. The students are also equipped to understand the complex societal forces that would they would have to face when they begin their professional life.

Vakil Director, CEPT University The Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications established by CEPT University to lay a foundation of education, training, research and outreach in the field of Geographical Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing System and Space Applications enable the candidates to acquire knowledge and skills in the most sought for Geomatics Technology for universal development purposes. CEPT University is pioneer in introducing a Masters’ level course in Geomatics in the State of Gujarat since the year 2006. This course trains professionals capable of using geomatics technology for human, social, economic and physical development of a country at micro and macro level. I take this opportunity to extend my heartily congratulations to all the graduating students of Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications and wish them a great success ahead.


Message Prof. Anjana Vyas Dean

The Masters Programme in Geomatics and Space Applications offered by the Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications at CEPT University, Ahmedabad is a scientific, technology base a two year course. This programme includes theory, practical and field visit as a tool for teaching real time projects and their solutions. This programme covers all the subjects of Geomatics, such as remote sensing, GIS, Digital Image Processing, Photogrammetry, Programming languages, Database Management System,Global Positioning System, Cartography, Geospatial Science, Mathematics and Quantitative Research Methods, Microwave Remote Sensing, etc. Open Source GIS, Participatory GIS etc. are the subjects offered as electives. This academic programme aims at the human resources development for the fast emerging Geomatics discipline. Geomatics is finding ever increasing applications in the planning and management of the developmental activities. It is expected that the Geomatic services will emerge as one of the major industries in this decade. The Masters programme on Geomatics conducted by the Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications, CEPT University with its pursuit for excellence has started this course at the most appropriate time to cater to the need of the industries, R&D organizations and academic institutions. The academic session begins from July 2009 is fourth year for Geomatics education offered by the CEPT University, which is pioneer to introduce Masters level Geomatics programme in the State of Gujarat. The faculty student interaction, participation in national workshops, celebration of GIS Day and other popular events are part of the education where all the students get equal opportunity to meet experts, professionals, teachers and students to explore the horizon. Geomatics Programme at CEPT University has a privilege to coordinate EDUSAT – Distance Learning courses for their students. I am confident that the students who are graduating from the CEPT University with Geomatics qualification will be readily absorbed by the industry and the academic institutions. I wish them a bright future and grand success ahead.


Post Graduate Programme in Geomatics and Space Applications

The Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications was established in 2007 at CEPT University, with focus on advance technology and its use for human development. The Master Level Programmes offered at this Faculty aim to create and awareness and generate an interest among the young students and professionals to learn and use the advance technology of remote sensing and GIS for the management of natural resources, urban and regional planning, infrastructure planning, disaster management, climate change, enterprise management and socio-economic activities to improve the quality of life and to upgrade the employment opportunities.

GLOBAL LINKAGES Faculty of Geomatics and Space Applications, CEPT University has exchange programmes and joint studies for students with several international universities. There are also various seminars, discussions, joint studios conducted with many of these institutes across the globe. Seminars and discussions are organized regularly for constant interaction with national and international agencies, which gives a holistic exposure.

Summer Internship The summer internship programme is of 2 months and every student has to undergo professional training in Govt/Pvt. agencies to gain real time knowledge and skills. Students had the opportunity to undergo thier internship with renowned insitutions like Indian Institute of Technology - Bombay, Space Application Center - ISRO, World Wide Fund for Nature, Physical Research Laboratory, Environmental Science Research Institute, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority etc.


EXTRA CURRICULAR In addition to ongoing curriculum students are also engaged in extra-curricular activities which include attending conferences, seminar, special observances hosted by Cept university and other institutes. World GIS day National Remote Sensing Day Indian Society of Geomatics, Conference 10th International Congress of Asian Planning Schools Association. Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Conference Women Scientist Workshop, organized by Dept. of Science and Technology Edusat Training Programme - all students participated. Interactive workshop on Sabarmati River involving all the students of the university.
