Splendid results in 2019
We are incredibly proud of our Class of 2019 and their teachers for the hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the year. In addition to our school ranking of 85th in NSW, 18% of Pittwater House students achieved ATARs greater than 95 and 24% of students achieved ATARs greater than 90. Two of our students reached the All Rounders list, 27 students made it to the Distinguished Achievers list and a total of 12 students were nominated for Callback. These are exceptional results for a non-selective school and particularly from a small student cohort. I congratulate each student for their unwavering commitment to their studies. Our NAPLAN results this year were also encouraging at both ends of the spectrum, with Year 3 and Year 9 achieving the highest percentage of students in the top 2 bands for Grammar and Punctuation, Numeracy, Reading and Writing when compared to similar schools. At Pittwater House, an integral part of our strategy is our approach to student agency. Our teaching methods support students to have autonomy in their learning environment, which gives them the opportunity to direct and take responsibility for their learning, creating independent and self-regulating learners. This approach is underpinned by our School motto ‘Semper Diligens’ – Always Hardworking. Yet we feel strongly that individual student academic, creative or sporting growth, at all levels of ability, must occur in symbiosis with excellent pastoral support. The happiness, resilience and well-being of our students cannot be underestimated whilst they are completing their years of schooling. We acknowledge the work that our talented teachers achieve in supporting our students to thrive and flourish. Dr Nancy Hillier BA, DipEd, MEdSt, DEd, MACE, MACEL, MAICD Principal

Dux of Boys’ Grammar and Girls’ College We are delighted to acknowledge James Pinnington as Dux of the Boys’ Grammar and Geordie Smith as Dux of the Girls’ College.
Geordie Smith Dux of Girls’ College ATAR: 99.05
James Pinnington Dux of Boys’ Grammar ATAR: 97.3
Geordie, our Dux of the Girls’ College, played Open Football and participated in Surf Lifesaving for her local Club, coming fifth in the U23 Female Teams event at the IRB Nationals. A talented cross-country runner and water polo player, Geordie consciously cut back on many of her sporting and Cadet Corps commitments in her Senior years to dedicate herself to her studies. Our Dux of the Boys’ Grammar James was a 2019 Prefect and remained very involved in Sport, Creative Arts and Co-curricular activities through his final years at Pittwater House. In addition to his commitments in the Symphonic Winds band, he was an accomplished athlete, swimmer, water polo player and sailor earning Runner-up Sportsperson of the Year in 2019. He was also awarded a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award and was a Sergeant in our Cadet Corps.
All Rounders
Notable congratulations to Annabelle Hyde and Tamsyn Martin who both made the All Rounders list, achieving over 90% (Band 6 or Band E4) in 10 or more units - an excellent result that they share with only 2% of the 75,000 students that completed the HSC in 2019.
Distinguished Achievers An exceptional 40% of the Year 12 Girls’ College and 36% of the Boys’ Grammar School reached the Distinguished Achievers list, achieving Band 6 or a mark of 90+ in a 2 unit course or a Band E4 result (45 or better) across a number of subjects, with outstanding subject results in: Biology, Physics, Business Studies, Dance, Advanced Mathematics, Mathematics Extension, Advanced English, English Extension, PDHPE and Economics.

2019 NAPLAN Results We are extremely proud of our students in all Years who have shown tremendous results against the state in the Top 2 Bands as demonstrated below – particularly in Reading and Numeracy. We are also pleased with the reported student:teacher ratios. Pittwater House has one of the best student:teacher ratios on the Northern Beaches at just 9.4, with small class sizes that allow every child to receive exceptional care and attention from their teachers to optimise academic growth.

About NAPLAN The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 comprised of tests covering Reading, Writing, Grammar & Punctuation and Numeracy (data, measurement, space and geometry, number patterns and algebra). The tests are intended to provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. They also provide schools, states and territories with information about how education programs are working and which areas need to be prioritised for improvement.
