Guild builders put hearts into new Habitat home

T

Thanks to the Triangle Builders Guild, a local family of modest means will celebrate the new year in a home of their own. TBG has built homes for Habitat for Humanity of Wake County before with work crews and subcontractors. In 2009, using materials donated by Stock Building Supply, the consortium of veteran home builders showed up onsite to do the framing and interior trim work on the 1,100square-foot home themselves. “It was easy to recruit volunteers for this project because we believe in Habitat’s mission,” says Rick Barrett of CityScape Builders. “It was a great experience to physically do some of the work ourselves. We reconnected to our roots.”

“Despite the tough times our industry is facing, the Triangle Builders Guild members wanted to give something back to our community.” — Ward Russell of Legacy Custom Homes

The 23 guild members collectively agreed to build the home in the midst of a challenging home building market. “Despite the tough times our industry is facing, the Triangle Builders Guild members wanted to give something back to our community,” says Ward Russell of Legacy Custom Homes. “The TBG, with the help of Stock Building Supply, has built a home for a family at no cost to Habitat for Humanity. We’re proud of this work and hope to continue this tradition in the years to come.” 24
