2010 FACULTY EXCELLENCE AWARD Over the years I have heard countless times how Brad has changed students’ lives as a result of taking one or more of his classes. He draws students to the material, challenges them, and inspires them to reach ne w levels of discovery about the subject as well as themselves. I know the students are grateful and appreciative of his interest, time and advice. He does mak e a difference. I have worked with Brad on the Honors Scholars Committee since its inception and ha ve seen how his work, along with the others on the committee, has helped to mak e it the strong and successful program that it is. LCCC is one of f ive community colleges partnering with Bucknell University as part of a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Grant program intended to allow high achieving, low income students the opportunity to experience an “elite education” at one of the nations f inest universities. Dr. Brad Prutzman was the only community college faculty member invited back every year and has the reputation for being one of the most dedicated, if not THE most dedicated teaching faculty member participating in the summer experience.

Ginny Mihalik—Professor, Transfer Counselor 2010 GEORGE W. ELISON FACULTY SERVICE AWARD

Ben Peruso

As a result of her twenty years here Ginny has defined the job of “transfer counselor.” In Pennsylvania, one of our challenges is that we do not have seamless transfer from the community colleges to the 4-year schools. In the beginning of her time at the college, Ginny took it upon herself to create the “book” that g ave course-by-course equivalences for our courses at dozens of our transfer partners. This served as a very useful guide for students and f aculty. In the past several years, I have been involved with her in conjunction with the Honors Scholars Pro gram, which is just one example of her connection with students. She works tirelessly to make sure that these students have every opportunity to be successful, both at LCCC and at their selected transfer institutions. Ginny’s many years of service speak volumes of her passion, dedication, and commitment to LCCC. Ginny’s efforts in the area of transfer ag reements and articulation agreements are evidence of her desire to serve our students. Most recently, she has represented LCCC and the interests of PA community colleges in general, at the ongoing meetings regarding general education and core cur riculum transfer issues. She is well respected, both in the LCCC community and the lar ger, state-level, higher education community.

2010 ADJUNCT FACULTY OF THE YEAR AWARD Ben’s dedication to his students’ wellbeing inspires in them the desire to rise to his high e xpectations. Active on three campuses (Morgan, Donley and Main), Ben schedules his classes to allo w for availability to students; wherever he goes, students greet him enthusiastically, and he knows all their names. Ben has been involved in crafting and teaching developmental Learning Communities for the past two years. He has partnered with four different instructors to teach twelve Learning Communities, which shows a level of dedication unprecedented in our program. Mr. Ben Peruso is an adjunct faculty member who educates and motivates every student in his class or educational initiative in which he is involved. He captivates students of all ages with his creati ve and academically rigorous learning style which goes beyond the traditional classroom walls. He is committed to the philosophy that education is the key to opening up the door of hopelessness. Mr . Peruso has opened the door for many young people as an LCCC adjunct professor.
