Australian and New Zealand Legal Tender Coins in One Set

Remembering the Anzacs In April 1915, just eight months after Britain declared war on Germany on 4 August 1914, soldiers from Australia and New Zealand – organised into the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzac) – landed on the Gallipoli peninsula, with the aim of assisting in the allied effort to command the Dardanelles and to knock Ottoman Turkey out of the war. They fought long and hard alongside British and French troops. Eventually realising the campaign was futile, British command ordered the evacuation of allied forces, and Australian and New Zealand soldiers departed in December 1915.

Official Australia Post and New Zealand Post stamps.

The Spirit Lives On The Gallipoli campaign lasted for eight long and harrowing months before the Anzacs were evacuated in December 1915, followed by the British and French in January 1916. Australian troops suffered over 26,000 casualties on Gallipoli. More than 8,000 of these men were killed in action or died of wounds or disease. New Zealand suffered 8,000 casualties, including 2,800 deaths. Gallipoli was a costly military failure, but from this defeat grew the Anzac legend. The Anzacs earned an enduring place in Australia’s national story, and the men who followed them on the battlefields of the Western Front and the Middle East further enhanced the reputation that Australian soldiers had forged on Gallipoli. Trio of commemorative coins depicting symbolic images and themes from the First World War. 5,000 Mintage

I Love a Sunburnt Country

My Country

Dorothea Mackellar’s My Country is one of Australia’s most widely recited and beloved poems. Reflective of the author’s great love of the Australian landscape, the poem has become one of the most recognised and celebrated pieces of Australian poetry ever written.

Dorothea Mackellar’s poem My Country presented a contrast between the English and Australian landscapes, and inspired patriotic sentiments and a sense of great national pride, particularly in the context of World War I.

Dorothea’s words conjured up romanticised visions of the vast and majestic Australian countryside that was breathtakingly beautiful, yet harsh and brutal at the same time. ‘A land of sweeping plains’ describes the wide open spaces that seem to stretch on forever across the Australian outback.

In 1904, after spending an extended period abroad in London, and feeling homesick for Australia, Dorothea began writing My Country. Several re-writes later, the poem was published in The Spectator in London in 1908, under its original title, Core of My Heart.

Beautiful & Elegant Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora and Maleficent, the evil fairy who cast a dark spell over her at birth, declaring that before Aurora reaches her sixteenth birthday she will die by pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning-wheel. With the help of Aurora’s three guardian fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, the curse is altered so that Aurora will instead fall into a deep, enchanted sleep, from which she can only be woken by the kiss of her true love, Prince Phillip. 25 Years of the Kookaburra

The Great All-rounder

The year 2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the original Australian Kookaburra coin design which was first released in 1990. This limited edition was designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The history of the Australian Stock Horse dates back to the arrival of Australia’s first horses with the First Fleet in 1788.

The kookaburra is fondly known for its distinctive call which sounds similar to human laughter, and can be heard echoing through the trees at dawn and dusk.

Special 25th Anniversary Edition.

Although they were initially used for stock work and exploration by the early settlers, more than 120,000 Australian Stock Horses went on to serve in the First World War. Their strength, stamina and courage earned them international recognition as the finest cavalry mounts in the world and established their place in Australian history and folklore.

The Mighty Minmi Minmi is a genus of small armoured dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous Period. The first fossils of this animal were discovered in 1964 at Minmi Crossing near Roma, Queensland by a local resident and collected by vertebrate palaeontologist Dr Alan Bartholomai for the Queensland Museum. Minmi was a quadruped which walked on all four legs, although its hind legs were slightly longer than its front legs. The animal had a short neck flanked by bony armour and a wide bony skull with very small teeth. At only three metres long, this dinosaur was small by armoured dinosaur standards and would have browsed on ferns and other low growing plants. Minmi possessed a horny beak with which it would have been able to selectively nip off small fruits and seeds.

A Vivid Blue Tongue The Blue Tongue Lizard is native to Australia and is recognised by its bright blue tongue and brownish grey scales. They are not poisonous and can often be found living peacefully in the same backyard for years, conveniently consuming slugs and snails and sunning themselves by the backdoor, or out under the clothesline. These slow-moving creatures are found in just about every part of Australia: on the coastal plains, in the mountains, in rainforests and in the deserts, with at least one species found in every Australian capital city.

Previous Releases; Australovenator, Diamantinasaurus, Leaellynasaura Commissioned product struck by The Perth Mint. Fourth coin in five-coin series.
