Portraying the various stories of the war years, The Perth Mint has produced an emotive series of three-coin sets meticulously researched and crafted to provide a snapshot of the First World War historic period. A limited number of subscriptions were made available for collectors of the three-coin sets issued between 2014 and 2018. With few remaining, when purchasing the full set each collector receives a limited edition replica billy tin case with historical replicas which contribute to the Australian perspective of the First World War story.

Convoys of ships carrying the Australian 2014 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin Imperial Force (AIF) and the New Zealand #14T82AAA Expeditionary Force (NZEF) departed from King George Sound at Albany, Western Australia. $695.00 For many of the soldiers onboard, Albany would be the last piece of Australian soil on which they would stand.

Studio portrait of Leonard Alexander Rial of the 1st Australian Field Artillery Brigade. Enlisted on 24 August 1914, Rial embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Argyllshire in 18 October 1914 and was killed in action 22 July 1916 at Pozieres in France.

The Middle East Campaign of 1917 took place in the towns of Gaza and Beersheba, in a fight against the Ottoman Empire. It was during the Battle of Beersheba, that the legend of the Australian Light Horse was born as the 4th Light Horse Brigade charged Beersheba, and successfully captured the town and its water supplies, breaking the Gaza-Beersheba line. This action was recognised as one of the most famous mounted actions of the First World War.

19 July 1916 - 53rd Australian Infantry Battalion Men of the 53rd Battalion waiting to don their equipment for the attack at Fromelles. Only three of the men shown here came out of the action alive.
