Jesus Loves Me

Apostle’s Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy catholic church; The communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Offering Our Gifts I Love Thy Kingdom Lord..........................arr. Joseph M. Martin I love Thy kingdom, Lord, the house of Thine abode, The church our blessed Redeemer saved with His own precious blood.

I love Thy church, O God; her walls before Thee stand, Dear as the apple of Thine eye, and ‘graven on Thy hand. For her my tears shall fall, for her my prayers ascend, To her my cares and toils be given, ‘til toils and cares shall end. Beyond my highest joy I prize her heavenly ways, Her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise. Sure as Thy truth shall last, to Zion shall be given The brightest glories earth can yield and brighter bliss of Heaven! *Doxology Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow - #544

NEW SERMON SERIES

HEROES without halos

JUNE 8 - AUGUST 10 Deep in our hearts, we long for a hero. Someone with unbelievable courage and strength. Someone who selflessly runs into harm’s way to help others. Someone who makes the world a better place. This summer Hollywood leverages our hero-seeking psyche with blockbuster movies like Captain America and Spiderman. But Hollywood only captures a shadow of our longing. The stories of the Bible occurred in a hero culture, too. The Greek hero had extraordinary strength and courage to fight the enemy. Biblical heroes, however, surprise us. They are often weak and lowly, ordinary people whom God uses to carry out His work. The triumph of the biblical hero is God’s, not the hero’s. As we see the limitations of heroes without halos, we realize that we too can be a part of God’s work and plan. Biblical heroes invite us into God’s bigger story and get us ready for a true hero who rescues us and does for us what we can’t do for ourselves.

Tomorrow morning over 850 children from all over Atlanta and the surrounding community will descend on Peachtree’s campus for a dynamic week of fun and learning about what it means to follow Jesus. Pray for our VBS team, including teachers, worship leaders and the hundreds of people it takes to produce this yearly event. Pray for the light of Jesus to shine through each interaction with our city’s children.
