TRUE CONFESSION: 1 JOHN 8-10; PSALM 32 SERMON

From the elder John to his beloved “children” in the early church:

• God is light and we must walk in the light.

• We deceive ourselves if we profess faith but then walk in the darkness.

• Confess your sin or be a liar in God’s eyes.

We are introducing a new discipline, Secrecy and Confession.

• Secrecy is not always bad in the Scripture.

• Secrecy and sin are often linked. Secrecy and the Snake in the Garden

□ Any man-made system is full of sin, and we are hypocrites.

□ The burden of sin.

The Remedy: Confess it!

□ Jesus is the hilasmos, the one who intervenes for us all.

□ God already knows! We can be ourselves, in comfort and confidence.

□ Some think they have no sin, and some think they are beyond grace.

How do we talk to God when we are filled with guilt and shame?

Psalm 32 is the template for us.

□ Verse 1-2: Happy is the person who has confessed and knows they are forgiven.

□ Verse 3-4: The weight of sin

□ Verse 5: I confessed!

□ Verse 8-9: The Lord says, “Don’t be a mule.”

□ Verse 11: Rejoice in your forgiveness!
