UNIT 8: MEDIATION Mass media consumption You work for a leading newspaper and have seen an article on mass media consumption habits. The following bar graph is included in the article. It provides the sources of news in the UK from 2012 to 2016.

According to the figures shown in the article we appreciate that among the sources of news, TV and online are mainly used by English users as the main way to stay up to date. On the contrary, from 2013 there was a huge decline in the use of the written press, remaining stable from 2015 with a percentage of approximately 40%. Moreover, the number of users in relation to social media has increased from 2013 to 2015 and as the written press, it remains at a similar percentage. --------------------------------------------------------------------


The bar graph illustrates the figures of average use of mass media in England. The first point to consider is the overall trend of using TV and Online press as a source of information. Print and social press, during the period studied, suffered deep alterations to come to be used by approximately 40% of the interviewed inhabitants, both starting from 60% and 20% respectively in 2013. While a significant 80% of TV users dropped to 70%, the readers of Online press remained at the same level, showing a tendency to maintain leadership. -------------------------------------------------------------------The line graph outlines the use of sources of news between 2013 and 2016. As it can be clearly seen, more people preferred online media to print news. In fact, the use of print media was reduced by almost 30%. To sum up, it is evident that social and online media are increasing while TV and print media use is decreasing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you look at this line graph, you will notice an upward trend in the use of Social Media, which from 2013 to 2016 almost doubled its percentage. In contrast to this, Print Media has plunged from 60% in 2013 to less than 40% in 2016. Concerning TV and Online Media, although they have decreased around 10 % during this period of time, with 70% of usage we can say that they are the most consumed media. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This line graph is just presenting information about mass media consumption habits in the UK from 2012 to 2016 in an impartial but very visual way. The overwhelming majority of Britons seemed to be using online media as the main source of information during that period of time, whereas other traditional sources, like printed newspapers suffered a drop of about 20%. TV programs also fell slightly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This graph shows the results of a survey which analyzes the sources of news in UK from 2013 to 2016. There is a substantial difference in their use. The results show that in 2013 TV had the highest percentage in use as a source of news and social media had the lowest percentage. Between both of them are print and online sources. The results show that all sources have been reducing their use along the years and finally that the print source has fallen dramatically. __________________ The principal aim of this report is to present the results of mass media consumption habits in the UK. What this line graph does is illustrate that TV and online press were the main sources of news from 2012 to 2016. Moreover, print press went down considerably to over 30% in 2016. Finally, there was a small increase in social press well under 40%.
