A PROPOSAL


THE FOOD WASTE EFFECT Introduction This proposal is intended to draw some reasons in favour of the convenience of reducing food waste disposal. Current Situation As the pie chart shows, last year our company lost money due to the significant amount of the food wasted, headed by fresh fruit and vegetables, with a remarkable 22%, followed by dairy, with almost 20%, and meat and fish, with close to 20% rate. In my view, measures should be taken to cut down on food waste. This would clearly maximize our results as a company, such as economic benefit rise and productivity rate increase. Measures to be taken To begin with, an urgent task is to analyze the selling daily register to balance our orders and sales and be prepared to launch special discounts when a large amount of a given category of goods are not sold. As a consequence, our results as a company would increase and the employees' productivity rates would rise as well, alongside with the opportunity to encourage our customers’ loyalty. Then, we should evaluate if the process works as expected and, if necessary, make monitoring reports from time to time to ensure everything runs well. Conclusion The way I see it, I agree with experts on the fact that the consumption of huge amounts of over-packaged, big-sized or several in-one products has the most negative impact due to the fact that they are mostly dumped down afterwards because of its immediate expiring date. These practices reduce social awareness and damage both the environment and our budget. What is more, they are also unsustainable. In addition, I would claim that measures to reduce the food waste effect must be implemented. Whereas individual action has a small effect, the industry performance is likely to have a significant impact on both environmental sustainability and social awareness.


THE FOOD WASTE EFFECT Introduction This proposal is intended to highlight the current problems with food waste and to give ideas for improving the amount of food disposed of by wholesaler companies. During the last ten years, due to the economic crisis impact, large-scale markets have decreased their sales. Current situation As the governments may be aware, there are issues related to low family income, which directly affects sales volume. Firstly, following a survey among consumers, the situation is described as hopeless. As a result of lower purchasing power and higher prices on comestibles, leading a balanced diet may be impossible for some buyers. Secondly, a number of concerns with regard to the food waste effect were expressed in a demonstration supported by the community last weekend but the conclusion is always the same: low salary raises food waste. Suggestions So, it is suggested that wholesaler companies should raise the amount of food they donate to soup kitchens. Besides, it is recommended that families with a high risk of poverty should have free vouchers in order to keep a healthy diet and prevent future diseases. Also, it would be an advantage to implement a local strategy to recycle food waste for animals and organic fertilizer. Final recommendations If these recommendations are implemented, the current undesirable situation with food waste will definitely improve.

Current situation As the executive board may be aware, we disposed of a huge amount of food every year, being fresh fruit and vegetables the most affected category. This situation is costing us a lot of money and it is giving us a negative image. Suggestions The amount of food that we dispose of should be reduced in order to get a better image for our company. Being eco-friendly is a trend that we can use to gain more clients. A considerable amount of money would be saved if we didn’t buy so many products that we can’t sell later. It would be an advantage to reduce the effort of workers that have to transport, advertise and handle products that are going to be thrown away. Final recommendations If these recommendations are implemented, the current situation with this huge sum of disposed-of food will definitely improve at the same time as the image of our enterprise.

DATA ANALISIS The current situation is, as the research shows, that a considerable percentage of our main products is lost. This way, around 20% of the losses come from dairy, fresh fruit and vegetables and meat and fish. The losses are very close to 15% in grain and other less important ingredients are in the region of 10%. The losses in eggs are insignificant. RECOMMENDATIONS There are many reasons why reducing all these losses is necessary. Firstly, it is recommended to stop or reduce the loss of a considerable amount of money every year. Secondly, our efficiency is getting down because the demand cannot be supplied properly. Finally, our corporation’s image is being deteriorated in the frame of the sector and society, as we are polluting the environment. CONCLUSION From my point of view, the food waste effect is that our Company is losing a considerable amount of resources. It is not efficient enough, and our company’s image in the sector and society is not accurate. Urgent measures must be taken in order to improve our profits and benefits for the next periods.


HOW TO REDUCE FOOD WASTE INTRODUCTION The aim of this proposal is to highlight the current problem the company is going through with food waste every season and the imminent need to reduce it. DATA ANALYSIS It can be clearly seen in the apple pie that approximately a quarter of the disposal produced by the company comes from fresh fruit and vegetables, whereas close to 20% of it comes from dairy and meat and fish, which is in contrast to the insignificant amount produced by eggs 2%. However, grain makes almost 15%, while processed fruit and vegetables, fats, oils and sweeteners are in the region of 10%. RECOMMENDATIONS I strongly believe that it is vital to reduce food waste as the company is losing money and this is one of the problems which should be faced. In addition to this, another point worth mentioning is pollution, which can be caused by food waste if it is not recycled properly. Therefore, it would be an advantage to narrow the production of the company, not only to cut down on unnecessary expenses but also to avoid contaminating the environment. CONCLUSION If these recommendations are implemented, the current undesirable situation will probably change and, as a consequence, the company, as well as the employees and the planet we live in, will benefit from this measure.

Then, the other groups are below 10% and a small minority, less than 2%, corresponds to eggs. The reason why we should cut down on food waste In general terms, it is not an exaggeration to say that food waste is one of the biggest problems our consumer society is facing today. Almost a half of all the food produced globally is never eaten. However, not only is the issue the waste of all the resources that are used to create uneaten food, but also rotting food in landfills contributes to methane emission, which is a greenhouse gas that speeds up in climate change. Conclusion In a nutshell, I have the impression that it is a very difficult issue to curb due to our mindset and economic interests. Nonetheless, we should be aware of a responsible use of our planet resources.

Secondly, no need to say that food waste is anything but an eco-friendly attitude. Something we can change for our benefit and that of society in general. Suggestions One of the suggestions is to lower the price by half of the products near expiration. Another interesting action is to offer discounts to families at risk of poverty as well as to donate to soup kitchens. Also, it would be very helpful to involve local producers so they can recycle food waste for animals and organic fertilizer. Final recommendations If the suggestions above are followed, there is no doubt that the current situation will dramatically improve.
