Editorial Queridas Familias: Queridas familias: Ante un mundo cada vez más globalizado y cambiante, la educación debe preparar a las alumnas para enfrentarse a un futuro que será muy técnico, especializado y un tanto incierto. Por ello, en el Delta estamos comprometidas no solo con la excelencia sino también con la innovación, lo que implica una serie de cambios que suponen una mejora en los procesos y resultados pedagógicos. Preparamos a nuestras estudiantes dotándolas de habilidades y herramientas que les permitirán enfrentarse con éxito a la sociedad que les toque vivir. Uno de nuestros objetivos es formar ciudadanas del mundo que logren un impacto positivo dondequiera que vayan; por eso, nos llena de optimismo ser reconocidas por entidades internacionales como EFQM y el IB, y universidades de alto prestigio como Yale y Columbia. En el Delta todas las mejoras e innovaciones van siempre dentro del marco de nuestra misión, visión y valores, tomando en cuenta todas las dimensiones de la persona. La formación cristiana es un aspecto fundamental, tratamos de secundar lo que Nuestro Patrono, San Josemaría, pensaba sobre la finalidad de la educación: “...formar cristianos verdaderos, hombres y mujeres íntegros capaces de afrontar con espíritu abierto las situaciones que la vida les depare, de servir a sus conciudadanos y de contribuir a la solución de los grandes problemas de la humanidad, de llevar el testimonio de Cristo donde se encuentren más tarde, en la sociedad”. Camino a la Excelencia
“El valor de la obra bien hecha”, “el cuidado de los pequeños detalles”, son frases que tienen su origen en San Josemaría y que son utilizadas con regularidad en el día a día del colegio; la calidad y la excelencia están presentes en la cultura organizacional desde la fundación del Delta pues no cabe santificación del trabajo ordinario si este no está bien hecho. Por eso el Delta está inmerso en un proceso de mejora continua avalado por certificadoras de calidad. Primero con la norma ISO 9001-2000, y desde el 2011 con EFQM(European Foundation for Quality Management). Esta inmersión logró un compromiso institucional para buscar constantemente nuevas estrategias y herramientas que permitan fortalecer y mejorar los servicios que el colegio ofrece. En el período lectivo 2016-17 alcanzamos el más alto nivel que otorga esta entidad: R4E- 5 estrellas. Reconocimiento que sólo se otorga a organizaciones maduras, comprometidas con la innovación, que buscan adelantarse al futuro y consolidar alianzas con instituciones nacionales e internacionales. Trabajar con este modelo nos permite contar con una visión externa e internacional que nos asesora para continuar comprometidas con la excelencia.

SUCCESS CASE STUDY OF IBEN
Delta is one of only six schools chosen from more than 3000 in 147 countries worldwide, and the only one in South America, to participate in this success case study for the IB. Our successful IB Diploma programme implementation and the members of the IB Educator Network who are part of our staff, led the researchers to select our school as an ideal site for the study which aims to learn more about the connection between IBEN participation and school success. EPIC researcher Michael Thier visited our school this week to conduct a series of interviews, focus groups and observations. The study’s findings will be published in the IB website later this year. IBEN members are passionate about ensuring high quality international education and they help the IB implement professional development and school services through their participation. Among Delta’s IBEN staff there are workshop leaders, school visit team members and leaders, consultants, readers, and examiners. The training and experience gained through the IB assignments they complete has a direct impact on school success.

Educating 21st Century Women
Delta seeks to give its students the skills they need to succeed in the contemporary world, and helps them grow the confidence to practice those skills. A world where information is at the click of a key, requires a young force focused on making sense of that information, sharing and using it in smart ways to help those around them thus becoming lifelong learners and problem solvers. Throughout the year the different events, projects and programs the school offers have aimed at developing international mindedness, communicative, STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) and critical thinking skills. We want to educate our girls not just to be scholars, but also to be committed leaders in their communities and in the world.
VIRTUAL REALITY
Virtual Reality or “near-reality” presents our senses a computer generated environment that can be explored and interacted with. In the classroom, virtual reality allows experiential learning, where students ‘feel’ what they are viewing. Virtual reality allows us to go places it would otherwise not be possible, like the space, inside the human body and even travel in time. VR motivates students to learn and makes their learning more durable.
MINI CITY
Games provide the best learning environment for children. They set kids in a competitive atmosphere, allowing them to work collaboratively towards one goal. In many occasions, this also increases their team spirit. This year we introduced “MiniCity”, a circular board game that allowed students to comprehend the different roles within a community. The upper elementary grades played along with the girls from the lower grades; the older girls were in charge of teaching the rules of the game and of all the negotiations and transactions that appeared, while the younger girls were in charge of the social media messages that appeared throughout the rounds. This strategy encouraged friendships beyond their own grades and the development of good sportsmanship.
STEAM
Science – Technology – Engineering – Art – Math are unquestionable parts of our everyday life. These areas are critical for the future, as scientific and technological developments gain importance. Thus, the real challenge becomes combining these subjects in order to find wonderful solutions for future needs. By incorporating STEAM within our classes, we are presenting our students the opportunity to apply the concepts they learn to solve problems with the help of their peers. Moreover, they find themselves in a position to inquire, think creatively and critically, design, build, create and deduce, which will unequivocally lead to innovation.

“The hour of code”
Joining a global movement! The hour of code is an initiative created by Computer Science Education Week and code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming. The intention behind this movement is to demystify “code” and show that anybody can learn it. Coding is not only used for making games but for organizing information, accessing it and helping visualize it in a number of fields such as graphic design, medicine, statistics, administration, etc.

The United Nations Models are representations of the General Assembly and the different committees that exist in reality, where students take part of sessions and negotiations in order to look for solutions to the world’s most significant problems in less than 48 hours. Delegates have the opportunity to collaborate with other participants from around the world in an attempt to overcome cultural differences in order to achieve beneficial solutions. Through the speeches, caucuses and the development of the resolution papers, students learn from their peers while developing confidence and leadership skills. This year, we had two teams participating in United Nations Models, one formed by baccalaureate students and the other formed by 9th and 10th graders. This expansion allowed many gifted teenagers to benefit from this experience that surpasses any topic that can be addressed within a classroom.

Participating in a United Nations Model requires the students to embody diplomats from different countries in General Assemblies or Special Committees. In some occasions, they must also represent NGO’s who work together with the United Nations. With this mind, our students had the opportunity to have a work session with Dr. José Vasquez, Permanent Member of the International Federation for Family Development in the United Nations. His wide experience in political science allowed the students to understand that addressing environmental responsibility, population growth and sustainable development is crucial to ensure a better world for the future generations.

Mr. Saud Alshamsi, Ms. Maisoon Al-dah and Mr. MJ Al Sallal, diplomats of the UAE Understanding different perspectives, cultures and religions are fundamental in order to establish diplomatic relationships. One of the best ways to allow our students to develop these skills was to participate in a work session with the diplomats who form the United Arab Emirates’ Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City. With more than 10 years of experience in diplomatic positions, Mr. Saud AlShamsi, Ms. Maisoon Al-Dah alongside Mr. MJ Al Sallal engaged in discussions about several global issues such as sustainability, clean energy resources, technological developments, touristic expansion, and cybercrime. This encounter allowed our delegation to fully comprehend the significance of intercultural relationships and the respect that must exist towards different ideologies and societies. Without a doubt, this amazing learning opportunity will shape their negotiating abilities and tactics.

The IB Diploma Programme enables students to integrally develop their potential through studies in different areas. Its core components, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity and Service, allow for the real life application of skills and knowledge. IB Diploma graduates are internationally minded students ready to contribute with creative solutions for local and global issues and to make an impact anywhere in the world. Because of their recognition as such, and the demanding course of studies they complete, universities around the world offer additional benefits to IB alumni, such as direct admissions, credits, and scholarships

After two years of intense work and preparation, 100% of the 2017 cohort of Diploma students fulfilled their goal. A total of fifty three students presented assessments in 15 different subjects; including two new ones: English A Language and Literature and Physics. In the end, 30 Diplomas and 247 course certificates have been awarded to this group of courageous young ladies. Congratulations to our 30 Diploma candidates, 23 course students, and their teachers; their effort, dedication, and teamwork has paid off!

Theory of knowledge (TOK) is a course about critical thinking and inquiring into the process of knowing, rather than about learning a specific body of knowledge. It plays a special role in the Diploma Program by providing an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, to make connections between areas of knowledge and to become aware of their own perspectives and those of the various groups whose knowledge they share. AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE: •Human Sciences
Students in II Baccalaureate explored the knowledge area of the Human Sciences. In order to do it they analyzed, debunked and discussed real life events pertaining to the disciplines that belong to this area such as the use of bitcoins (Economy), psychotic behavior (Psychology), characteristics of millennials (Sociology), and new business paradigms such as AIRBNB and Uber (Business).

Students explored the nature of knowledge through the arts triggered by the stimuli of different music genres. They developed an awareness of the differences between personal and shared knowledge.

PREESCOLAR
Nuestro proyecto educativo está centrado en la persona humana y en la riqueza de sus posibilidades. Buscamos dotar a los alumnos de destrezas, actitudes y aptitudes que faciliten su posterior adaptación a la educación Básica y Superior. En el Preescolar utilizamos un sistema de trabajo fundamentalmente activo, donde los alumnos son los protagonistas del aprendizaje. Esto favorece su autonomía, su capacidad de trabajar en equipo y potencia las habilidades que llevan a la convivencia positiva.
In SEAM Learning, structure and flexibility combine to create the perfect learning environment where the development and maturity of a toddler’s sensory, motor, and communicative skills take place. A child’s personal characteristics become a priority as autonomy is promoted in every game, exercise, or activity. Amidst a friendly space, kids experience movement and peacefulness; active exploration, or silent listening when necessary. Families collaborate with the school in the education of healthy kids, who are eager to learn and have the abilities to relate well to their peers.
Reading Spots
Every story presents a child with endless possibilities for their imaginations. When kids read they are travelling into different places, into different lives. This “magic” found in books is actually developing their language skills and their ability to concentrate and listen. Our “Reading Spots” were created to provide the kids with an enchanted corner for their different journeys.
Concert Friday
Frequent exposition to music accelerates the development of memory, literacy, and math skills. The rhythm of music is formed by a series of intervals that immediately improve linguistic development, including second-language acquisition. “Concert Fridays” present every week a different musician who performs live during twenty minutes. This provides the perfect space for the kids to get acquainted with a variety of musical instruments, genres, and styles.
The exposure to music from foreign countries provides the opportunity for students to identify the differences and similarities between diverse cultures. They learn about the location, national flag, language, traditions and lifestyles from countries around the world, fostering empathy and respect towards others. Moreover, it helps to form the future global citizens society needs.
Enhancing visual learning and creating cultural awareness are two of the main objectives of Art Wednesday. Every month an artist is carefully selected, providing exposure to a variety of techniques and artistic movements. Moreover, connections to their cultural and historical backgrounds are established. The space provides the kids with information, activities and fun games aimed at developing critical thinking skills.

Empieza el día jugando da a las familias el sustento teórico y la experiencia práctica para introducir más situaciones lúdicas con sentido y propósito en su interacción cotidiana con los niños. El objetivo es brindar a las familias la posibilidad de divertirse a través de la corta experiencia de un juego sencillo en el que pueden participar de manera voluntaria.
Es un proyecto de motivación al aprendizaje autónomo. A través de un banco de preguntas adecuadas a la edad, se propone a los niños la investigación de temas diversos: ciencia, arte, geografía, etc.

Painting is one of the most natural things in children. It gives them the opportunity to manipulate different materials and objects in order to create a variety textures or techniques. This allows them to discover patterns, shapes, sizes and even hues of colors, which sparks their imaginations. The finished product reflects more than just a combination of strokes; it represents the endless possibilities of each child’s creativity. Every year, our mini artists demonstrate a wide range of styles and movements.

Our English festival where children get the chance to demonstrate their comprehension level, enhance their oral proficiency, and strengthen their cognitive skills, like memory, concentration and attention. It is also a moment to practice cooperative learning, socialize and use their bodies to express feelings and emotions.

Día del niño
It was an interscholastic space for a group of Primero de Básico kids to choose a topic that they were passionate about, research and share it with others. What mattered was not the topic itself, but the process of coming up with a presentation of what they had learned. The objective was for students to be the protagonists of the acquisition of valuable knowledge, which can change the world starting now. The schools that shared with us were La Moderna, Colegio Menor, and IPAC.
