It’s Not Too Early to Note These End of the Year Tax Tips Caroline Harless, Harless & Associates

As the year comes to a close, your thoughts more likely turn to holiday celebrations than tax preparation. However, preparing for April 15th should begin now so that the process can go as quickly and smoothly as possible. Here are a few tips to make reporting easier and lower your tax liability as much as possible: • Hold onto the records that support items reported on your tax return and prove income and expenses for at least three years. • If you own a home or investment property, keep records for expenses including home improvements for at least three years after you have sold or disposed of the property. • You can defer some of your income until the next tax year and at the same time accelerate upcoming deductions into the current year. If you’ve had a high earning year, this can balance things out. • Avoid a shortfall by increasing your withholding now. This can help you get caught up before the end-of-year tax tally. • Decrease your income tax liability by making the maximum contribution to your 401(k) or IRA. This year, that is $17,500 for 401(k) and $5,500 for IRA. • Consider converting your traditional IRA to a Roth IRA, which means you can pay tax now on the conversion, but no taxes in the future. • It’s the holiday season, so why not give a gift. Gifts of up to $14,000 are tax free, and that number goes up when two spouses are involved.

Greetings & Welcome Back! Dear Readers to what promises to be another wonderful winter season here in Palm Beach. The summer, with its many events, & travels far and wide, had us experiencing a myriad of parties with definitive themes. The Red Cross Ball in Monte Carlo, which is always such a pleasure for me to cover here in these pages, was hosted by the Grimaldi royals and the glowing expectant “mother-tobe”; Princess Charlene. A Hollywood themed costume party held in Tuxedo Park, harkened back to the days of the golden era. The Rita Hayworth, Alzheimer’s Association Ball in New York heightened our social awareness and reminded us that Alzhemier’s, as other diseases are non discriminatory. Closer to home, Camp Boggy Creek welcomed more than 7,000 children afflicted by serious illness, thus bringing some joy into the lives of those youngsters. Europe this summer held its usual array of cultural happenings from Germany, to Paris, Brussels, Madrid, & Bruges. Art, fashion & beauty to capture ones attention: thrill us and stimulate us; was at the forefront, once again reminding us all “not to focus in on the bugs, but rather on the butterflies” and be so very grateful for the beauty and positive things we all have in our lives. I am grateful for my new dog, “Sweetie”, a magnificent Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who has brought much joy & exuberance into my life, and who has been graciously welcomed by the community. Hence, I join him in warmly welcoming you, back to Palm Beach for another “positively splendid” season! Maya Johnson & Monsieur Sweetie Best wishes

Why are Celebrities Admiring Masha Archer’s Jewelry?

Halloween Party 2014 Christian Wiebel (manager), Chef Julio Chavez, Vivian Bordieri Moir (owner)

Food is a culture, a process to bring us together. Actual essence of who we are, common to all; yet significantly differently from table to table. I like to bring to my customers what I bring to my family freedom while they eat and when they drink. I want our community to grow together, my name is Vivian Bordieri Moir and my Staff and I are your next door table!

Our food is serious-fun!!! er Our Chefs are free to roam in whichev to order! direction. Everything we made is made food. Come and experience our passion for

Masha has shown at the San Francisco Opera Shop for 25 years. In 2009 her daughter Larissa wrote and edited a book of photographs (also titled ‘The Ritual of the Eye’) chronicling her life and career in her many arts. She considers her jewelry designs to be the culmination of her artistic and cultural heritage.

Masha’s jewelry is distinctive and eye-catching - not only does it turns heads when one walks into the room, it photographs brilliantly! Some pieces even contain materials that possess a specific light play feature, glowing, shimmering, or changing color under different kinds of light, including flash. The same necklace can transform any outfit, making the plainest suit spectacular, or adding a colorful, artistic flair to a ball gown. This makes them great for the jet setting lifestyle: simply adding a Masha piece to an outfit can transform it from inconspicuous to spotlight-worthy. Being wearable art, rather than mere objects of fashion, Masha pieces never go out of style. And once seen, they are unforgettable. A necklace made 30 years ago has the same beauty and fascination today as it did at its creation. A celebrity never has to worry that she (or he! Men look great in Masha, too!) is being seen and photographed in something that anyone else has also been seen and photographed in, because every Masha piece is one-of-a-kind. Nor will their Masha pieces eventually seem dated or outmoded. Like all great art, Masha jewelry gets better with age.

Missy de Bellis Rapaille and Dr. G. Clotaire Rapaille like to do it in style.

Hollywood Glamour Hollywood Glamour was the theme of their Tuxedo Park party. While there you might have run into Marilyn Monroe, Groucho Marx, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis and Priscilla Presley, or the Phantom of the Opera. The prize for the best costume went to Guy Clark, who was a very convincing Charlie Chaplin. Lindley Hall, Missy and Clotaire’s beautiful mansion, dates back to 1898 and the creation of Tuxedo Park. Warren and Wetmore, the architects who designed Grand Central Station, also designed their home. A very select list of guests included Palm Beach residents and friends. Among the guests were, Janet and Marc Levy, Bruce Langmaid & Chuck Poole, Geri & Frank Morrow, Peggy and Lew Wheeler, Guido Lombardi and his daughter Leija, Gary Parr, Harrison Morgan & Guy Clark, Michael Finn, Leslie Rose, Dr. Ed Kwan and his wife Susan, Michael Bruno & Alexander Jackowec, Cynthia & Tony Maltese, Barbara & Peter Regna, and Maya Johnson. Aside from dancing to the 12-piece orchestra, there was a 3-course meal and a vodka fountain to keep the party going. Who needs the Hamptons?

Art Dealer & Appraiser Lydia Sudick with 17th century Italian painting by Luca Giordano, titled; “Allegory of Fame”

A

pproximately 100 art enthusiasts were in attendance at the Lydia Sudick Fine Art Gallery, of Hobe Sound, Florida, for the vernissage and retrospective of the Baroness Waltraud von Schwarzbek’s paintings on May 1, 2014. Ms Sudick, an art dealer and appraiser, who over the past 23 years has specialized in Old Masters paintings, chose a living artist for her gallery’s inaugural exhibition. Her former gallery in Montecito, California dealt in primarily Italian, French & Dutch paintings of the 17th & 18th centuries. Hence, why the departure for the gallerist and appraiser; who also at the moment has a stunning Old Master painting of an angel, titled, “Allegory of Fame”, on offer, by the 17th century Neapolitan painter, Luca Giordano which dates from around 1650? The answer is simple. When the Baroness & Ms. Sudick met, they instantly recognized in each other that both had their love of art, and their professional lives in the art world, steeped within the Old Master tradition. Baroness von Schwarzbek was trained and studied classically in Munich, Germany, and paints in the Old Master tradition. Her floral still life pieces have been compared to those of the great masters, such as Jan van Huysum, Jan van Kessel & Abraham Bosschaert. Her stellarly impressive, and hallmark original work, titled, “Nature’s Wonder”, is the centerpiece for the exhibit at Lydia Sudick Fine Art, and will be on view and offer throughout the season of 2014-2015. For more information on the Baroness and Lydia Sudick Fine Art, or to arrange an appointment to view the works, please contact the gallery at: Lydia Sudick Fine Art 8958 SE Bridge Road Hobe Sound, Florida 33455 Telephone: 772 932-7988 Mobile: 914 261-9009 Email: lsudickfineart@yahoo.com www.lydiasudickfineart.com Lydia is also a part of the Berlin based “Auctionata” to view her profile visit: auctionata.com/p/93415/lydia-sudick-hobe-sound
