In chapter 16 of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus commands His disciples to “go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Caleb Saunders, the director of Teamwork Missions and a graduate of Seffner Christian Academy, strives to live out this commandment daily. After graduating in May with a double major in Theology and Christian Ministry from Welch College in Nashville, Tennessee, the 22-year-old returned home and founded Team Missions, a nonprofit ministry that offers short-term mission trips and excursions within the United States. With the motto of “Reaching in, Reaching out, Reaching up,” the nonprofit focuses on providing opportunities for youth groups and college-age students to be the hands and feet of Jesus. “I felt a strong calling early on. Growing up, missions were always important to me,” explained Caleb. “My parents always supported missionaries, and my dad was a youth pastor who led a number youth group mission trips.” Caleb’s father, Johnny Saunders, who is the youth pastor for First Free Will Baptist Church and Seffner Christian Academy, also supports the organization. The organization also offers Christian Heritage and History Tours to Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

“Teenagers in our present community have more information about God than have experience serving God,” said Johnny. “We want to close that gap and give them the meaningful experiences that help grow their faith. That’s why the experiences of these trips are so important.” The threefold ministry officially launched the end of last year with a soft opening in June. In addition to planning the mission trips for churches, the ministry also offers Christian Heritage and History tours

As a youth pastor, Johnny recognized a need for this type of ministry and said, “I know youth pastors get busy with their day to day dealing with their youth group, church and different activities, and so this ministry helps youth leaders by taking off a big load with customizing mission trips.” For more information and pricing, please visit www.teamworkmissions.com or email teamworkmissions@gmail.com.

The Word That Says It All

By Debora Coty I had a God-smack moment one night while reading Psalms. I was flying along when suddenly I hit what I call an eyeball wall – you know, when something arrests your attention and you have to stop and reread it 10 times to soak in the full meaning. I should mention here that my backstory had been a week full of bad things happening to good people I know and love, and me questioning Papa God about why He seemed to be ignoring my prayers for them. They were still in trouble. They were still hurting. Are you hearing my pleas, Lord? So He answered me right then and there through the words of the psalmist who must’ve felt the same way I did: “Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His lovingkindness from me” (Psalm 66:20 NASB). Lovingkindness. Wow. I just love that loaded word. It acknowledges not only heart-feelings (loving) but also action based on those feelings (kindness). With a little research. I learned that the word lovingkindness here is actually the Hebrew word “hesed,” which may also be translated ‘mercy’, ‘love’ or even ‘grace’ (the typical New Testament translation). Ancient scriptural translations like the Septuagint and the Vulgate usually translate hesed as ‘mercy,’ but in this particular verse, the NASB prefers ‘lovingkindness,’ the facet of love associated

with loyalty. So do I. The word is oozing with the unconditional, dependable, faithful kind of love we all crave. Hesed is found quite often throughout the Bible, sometimes within the context of person-to-person relationships involving loyalty such as between Esther and her king (Esther 2:17), Saul and his men (2 Sam 2:5) and lovers Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 3:10). But hesed is mostly used in describing Godto-man relationships, and by that I mean God the Creator offering hesed (lovingkindness or loyal love) to His creation (us). Even when our own loyalty blows right out the window. For example, hesed is notably present in the Lord’s description of Himself in the Ten Commandment passage (Ex 20:5-6) and during His displeasure at the display of Israelite disloyalty in worshipping the golden calf (Ex 34: 6-7). So therein is my answer. Yahweh’s is a stubborn, loyal love. It’s lovingkindness. A deep, resonating type of love forged of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. It will never leave us stranded. Debora M. Coty is an inspirational speaker and award-winning author of over 40 books, including the bestselling Too Blessed to be Stressed series. Visit with Debora anytime at www.DeboraCoty.com.

The Angel Foundation’s Annual Charity Golf Classic Moves To New Location

Staff Report

Pictured are the celebrity guests from the 2018 Charity Golf Classic.

The 17th annual Angel Foundation Charity Golf Classic will be held on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. Formerly known as the Greater Brandon Community Foundation, the nonprofit is proud to announce its new venue on the beautiful Club Renaissance golf course in Sun City. This year’s event kicks off with the Celebrity Pairings Party at Sunset Grill at Little Harbor on Friday night. The evening will include food, drinks and its exclusive Celebrity Auction where golfers will bid on their favorite celebrities to golf with on Saturday. The Celebrity Pro Am Golf Tournament begins on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Club Renaissance with registration and lunch. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m. In keeping with tradition, golfers will enjoy a generous player’s package featuring food on the course from local restaurants, course competitions and an award ceremony at the completion of the tournament. “We have been told that our tournament, our biggest fundraiser, is one of

the best in the state, and we are blessed to have our sponsors, celebrity guests and golfers come back year after year to help us raise money for the foundation,” said Liz Brewer, the executive director. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation Angel Program, which helps families in the Greater Brandon community affected by a lifethreatening illness or catastrophic event. When a family faces a terminal diagnosis or catastrophic event, their primary focus is caring for their loved ones. The practical day-to-day things often taken for granted when all is well, are no longer a priority, but they still must be done. The Angel Foundation partners with local businesses and individuals in the community to meet those practical needs. Every family goes through home assessment by an ‘Angel Team’ to determine their needs, and if a financial need exists, the nonprofit will assist them on a temporary basis until they can get back on their feet. Since 2006, the foundation has helped more than 750 families in a variety of ways. For more information about the foundation, visit www.BrandonFoundation.com or call 689-6889

Dr. Matt Aherns DMD, owner of SouthShore Orthodontics, has added a new product call Inbrace to his inventory for patients who need braces, but do not want the look or feel of traditional braces. Inbrace are invisible braces that are attached to the lingual or inside of the your teeth. “Invisible braces are ideal for older teens, adults and athletes,” says Lisa Cramp, officer manager at Southshore Orthodontics. “A patient smiles and no one knows they have braces. Athletes don’t have to worry about cuts and injuries typical braces can cause. Plus, nothing to remove either so it’s low maintenance.” Inbrace runs in line with other orthodontic solutions like braces with clear brackets and Invisalign. These invisible braces also require the same treatment time as traditional braces and Invisalign. Dr. Aherns offers multiple solutions and options for his patients. Southshore Orthodontics believes

in finding the right fit and product for their patients. They strive for patient satisfaction. With the state of the art technology, Dr. Aherns believes building a relationship with his patients is the key to a successful practice. “We see patients for six months to two years of treatment. We want them to be happy and comfortable with their care. We believe in building a good relationship with the people we treat, that’s our reward.” SouthShore Orthodontics has been open for more than three and a half years, but he has been practicing well over five years in the area. Dr. Aherns and his wife, Sarah, are native Floridians and met while both were in school at University of Florida. Sarah is a dental hygienist and the face of the business. She networks with other offices and dental practices in the area, keeping up with the latest business models and services. Dr. Aherns is a member of the Smiles Change Lives program. This community-based orthodontic program is designed to promote increased selfesteem and improved oral health for children in need of orthodontic treatment whose families cannot afford the full cost of braces. SouthShore Orthodontics is located at 13135 Kings Lake Dr. #103 in Gibsonton. To find out more, call 8150080 or visit www.southshoreortho.com.

Sports Connection Jr. Bucs Flag Football Program Visits St. Stephen For Day Of Fun The Jr. Bucs Middle School Flag Football Program, a part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation, visited St. Stephen Catholic School on January 15 to teach students flag football drills. Former USF football star and former Buccaneer George Selvie participated in the event, engaging in drills with the middle school kids. “I think it’s a great opportunity to get flag football out there and promote it for girls and boys,” said Selvie. “It’s not just for boys anymore, we are moving towards getting the girls more involved in playing. I love that part." According to former Howard Football player and flag football instructor Matt Parker, flag football is becoming a popular and safer option to tackle football. “I think a lot of people are starting to notice how dangerous tackle football can be, so flag football is the next big thing,” said Parker. “It keeps kids active and teaches a lot of fundamentals. The kids love it, and I think we are making a big impact on the community.”

By Nick Nahas

According to the Buccaneers website, the Jr. Bucs Middle School Flag Football Program enhances the flag football curriculum for nearly 70,000 middle school students by providing flag kits, equipment and

instruction. Students in Hillsborough and Pinellas County school districts will

participate in a three-week flag football unit during either the fall or spring semester. Additionally, this school year, all schools will receive a special visit and instruction from a Buccaneers legend and certified flag football instructors. “The kids were very excited to come out and run through some drills and have someone teach them,” said PE coach and St. Stephen athletic director George Green. “The excitement has been off the charts.” The middleschoolers participated in drills for about an hour of fun. “I think it’s a great experience,” said 7th grader and St. Steven flag football player Olivia Mills. “We learned all these cool ways to prepare for a flag football game.” “It’s cool that a team like the Bucs is coming out to small schools to support us and help us have fun,” said 7th grader Brayden Mcanally. Parker says that the plan is to expand to Orlando next year as well. For more information, visit the website at buccaneers.com.

Tim Tebow Proposes To Girlfriend Tim Tebow is known as a Christian athlete, author, sports broadcaster, movie producer and now as an engaged man. On January 9, the Heisman Trophy winner proposed to his girlfriend and 2017 Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. The pair were visiting Tebow’s family farm in Jacksonville, Florida when he popped the question. The couple went for a walk by a small lake on his family's property where Tebow had an arbor and bench–engraved with the day of the couple's first date. Tebow flew in Nel-Peters' family and friends from South Africa as a surprise for his soon to be wife. NelPeters posted a series of photos capturing the moment on Instagram. At present, a wedding date has not been confirmed.

Chick-fil-A Opens On Sunday, Makes 14-Year-Old Autistic Boy's Birthday Wish Come True

An Alabama Chick-filaA opened its doors on Sunday to make a 14-yearold autistic boy’s birthday wish come true. Elijah Sprague, who is diagnosed with both autism and cerebral palsy wished to work at a Chickfila-A drive-thru for his 14th birthday. Sprague’s uncle is the manager at a local Chick-fil-A and asked the store’s owner if there was a way to make his nephew’s wish come true. The owner happily obliged. Chick-fil-A is typically closed on Sundays because of its Christian foundation. Sprague handed out cookies to about 40 cars filled with friends and family through the drive-thru window. Then his friends and family joined him inside the restaurant to celebrate over a giant birthday cookie.

Sprague was born 18 weeks early and was only expected to live for about one year. Rene Sprague, the boy's mom, first met her son as a newborn while working as a nurse in the NICU. When Sprague was about six months old, Rene and her husband decided to adopt him. Rene thanked everyone for making her son’s birthday so special. She also encouraged people to remember how much children with special needs have to offer the community.

City First United Methodist Church has a tradition of giving its Christmas Eve offerings to charity. The church decided to help the entire Royse City Independent School District in 2018. Together the 200-member church was able to save more than $10,000 to be donated to the ISD. The church's pastor Chris Everson said that helping the community is what the church is called to do. Pastor Everson said, "If the church does not impact the community the church is in, then the church isn't doing its job." The church paid off student’s lunch debts that were $20 or more. When students exceed $25 in debt, the school can no longer provide them with a hot meal for lunch and instead they are given a ham or turkey sandwich, a carton of milk and a piece of fruit.

Live Like You Mean It Leadership with Beautiful Feet! By Derek Maul “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” Isaiah 52:7: This column is about leadership. It’s on my mind because we talked about Moses in church yesterday, and because there seems to be a critical leadership vacuum in public life. One of my favorite Moses stories is the day he came off Mt. Sinai, and there was no mistaking he’d been with God. The Bible says his face shone - not just holding light but shedding it too. This was a little much for the Israelites. “Put a paper bag over your head, Moses! We can’t stand it!” So, “Moses put a veil over his face.” Our preacher used the story when ordaining new church leaders. Her other reference was Romans 10:15: “As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” When we are called to lead – a family, friends, at work, in the community, at church – we are called to be people with beautiful feet, loaded with the radiance that speaks of God’s light resident in us! Not just inside, but light we are shedding. Imagine moving through life carrying

so much light that it falls off, bounces around, and gets all over the other people? Light shared like a wet dog standing in the middle of the kitchen and shaking, light getting everywhere. Leadership that stands in the presence of God, then brings that kind of life and energy and Good News and Peace into everything, light and life that elevates others and invites them into the light too. Bring Good News. Proclaim Peace. Bring good tidings. Proclaim salvation! And what is salvation again? Salvation is getting caught up in God’s initiatives of grace. Miracles of Jesus: Jesus Heals An Official's Son At Capernaum In Galilee During His ministry, Jesus performed more than 40 miracles including healing the sick, changing the natural elements of nature and even raising people from the dead. A miracle is considered an event that occurs outside the bounds of natural law. Each month, we will take a closer look at one of His miracles to understand the depth of His love for us. Understanding the miracles of Jesus can change your life, and it all begins with believing through faith. The second documented miracle of Jesus was recorded in John 4:46-54 and tells the story of Jesus healing a royal nobleman's son. "Once more Jesus visited Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum." When the man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he made the journey of more than 20 miles on foot. When he reached Jesus, the official addressed him as “Sir,” and begged for Jesus to come back with him to heal his son who was close to death. Even though the man had legal authority, he was submitting to Jesus. Jesus responded, “Unless you see miraculous signs and wonders, you will

never believe.” The officer believed Jesus could heal his son and persisted in faith. Jesus recognized the man’s belief and responded, "You may go. Your son will live." The man obeyed and returned to his son, believing that Jesus needed only to speak the words that his son would live. As the man traveled back to Capernaum, some of his servants were running to meet him to bring the good news that his son had been healed. The man realized that his son had been healed at the exact moment that Jesus had said, "Your son lives." Because of this miracle, the man’s entire household became believers. John chose to record this particular miracle because it demonstrated that Jesus had the power to heal a dying child 20 miles away. This is the faith that all believers should practice—although we may not see it visibly, we must trust in our faith in God. Time and distance are not obstacles for God’s miraculous powers. Just like the man in this story, we must ask and move forward believing that our prayers will be answered. When we do this, our faith is exercised, and it will grow and be strengthened. We should demonstrate to others how God's blessings come through our faith in Him.

The Loretto Chapel - Santa Fe, New Mexico

A small chapel located in the heart of Santa Fe, New Mexico brings visitors from across the globe to learn about its mysterious and interesting history and specifically its staircase. Several mysteries surround the staircase in the Loretto Chapel including the identity of its builder, the type of wood used and the physics of its construction. In 1873, seven nuns set forth to build a girl’s school and a chapel. The school grew to about 300 students, and the sisters raised $30,000 to build the chapel that was completed in 1878. The choir loft in the chapel was built 22 feet above the main floor. When the Loretto Chapel was completed, the only way to access the choir loft was by ladder. Many builders were consulted to address the problem, but they all concluded that a staircase would interfere with the interior space of the small chapel. As legend has it, the Sisters of the chapel prayed to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters for nine days straight about a solution. On the last day of prayer, a man appeared at the chapel with a toolbox looking for work. The nuns told the stranger about their plight. He worked in seclusion, and months later the elegant circular staircase was completed,

and the carpenter disappeared without pay. The nuns searched for the man and even ran an ad in the local newspaper. After finding no trace of him, some speculated that the man could have been St. Joseph himself. The mysterious staircase's carpenter built a magnificent structure. The staircase was innovative for the time, and the design still baffles architects, engineers and master craftsmen. The miraculous staircase was built with two 360-degree turns, no visible supporting structure and built without nails — only using wooden pegs. The exact wood used to construct the staircase is unknown, though it has been confirmed to be a type of spruce, probably not native to New Mexico. Loretto Chapel was used on a daily basis by the students and nuns until the school closed in 1968. Afterward, it became a privately-owned museum and wedding venue. The staircase has been the subject of many articles, television specials, and movies including Unsolved Mysteries and the full-length film titled, The Staircase, starring William Petersen and Barbara Hershey.
