SA LLUNA CLUB IS LOCATED IN THE OLD TOWN OF INCA, MALLORCA. THE PROJECT WAS TO RENEW THE CLUBÊS IMAGE THAT RESIDES ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF A TRADITIONAL MALLORCAN HOUSE.
SA LLUNA CLUB SE LOCALIZA EN EL CASCO ANTIGUO DE LA PEQUEÑA CIUDAD DE INCA, MALLORCA. EL PROYECTO CONSIST¸A EN RENOVAR LA IMAGEN DEL CLUB QUE RESIDE EN LA PLANTA BAJA DE UNA CASA TRADICIONAL MALLORQUINA.
If we can see the moon as the main character of the night sky is due to the high contrast of light and shadow that occurs up there. The inability to touch the facade, and therefore can not be open to the street, makes the space self-enclosed area and have almost an obligation to create a scene and look to the old courtyard of the house, so far ignored, located in the back of the house. The workspace is the result of lthe union of two annexes, done a few years ago. Therefore the project presents a common language to avoid the feeling of being in two environments and give just one image of the club. In this point appears the desission to move the bar from its original location and place it longitudinally to give more local perspective and gain more space for the several activities organized by the club. The first reason why we decided to darken the space is due to the principle of contrast between light and shadow.The new elements assume a presence like the moon does in the sky, being the new benchmarks and lighting the space. Lluna is a catalan word that in english means „moon‰, so we just took an abstract reference to imagine the new space without falling in platitudes. The second reason meets the need to highlight the two existing stone arches to give the importnace they deserve and to keep the reminiscence of the past. Finally the courtyard will be used as a new benchmark in the horizon, giving center stage to the old water well and creating a new contrast between light and shadow, what is new and what is traditional.
Si vemos la luna como la protagonista del cielo nocturno es debido al gran contraste de luz y sombra que se produce ahí arriba. El hecho de no poder tocar la fachada, y por tanto no poder abrirse a la calle, hace que el local quede encerrado en sí mismo y tenga casi la obligación de crearse una escena propia y mirar hacia el antiguo patio de la casa, hasta ahora obviado, situado en la parte de atrás de la casa. El espacio de trabajo es fruto de la agrupación de dos locales anexos, hecha unos cuantos años atrás. Por tanto el proyecto presenta un mismo lenguaje para evitar la sensación de estar en dos ambientes y así unificar criterios. Por una parte se decide mover la barra de su ubicación original y situarla en sentido longitudinal para dar mas perspectiva al local y ganar mas amplitud para las diversas actividades que organiza el club. El primer motivo por el cual se decide oscurecer el espacio es debido al principio de contrastes entre luces y sombras. Los nuevos elementos asumen una presencia como la que asume la luna en el cielo, siendo los nuevos puntos de referencia y de iluminación del espacio. El segundo motivo responde a la necesidad de resaltar los dos grandes arcos de piedra existentes, hasta ahora sin la importancia que merecían y que son reminiscencia del pasado. Por lo que respecta al patio, éste se va a utilizar como nuevo punto de referencia en el horizonte, dándole todo el protagonismo al antiguo pozo de agua y creando un nuevo contraste entre luz y sombra, lo nuevo y lo tradicional.

LOCATED ON MADISON AVENUE, THE ESPRESSO BAR CONCEPTUALLY AND LITERALLY TURNS A NORMAL ROOM SIDEWAYS, CREATING A STRIKING IDENTITY FOR THE EMERGING BRAND.
UBICADO EN LA AVENIDA MADISON, EL BAR DÊESPRESSO CONVIERTE CONCEPTUAL Y LITERALMENTE UN LOCAL NORMAL EN UN ESPACIO QUE SE MIRA DE SOSLAYO, CREANDO UNA NOTABLE IDENTIDAD PARA ESTA MARCA EMERGENTE.
The client approached nemaworkshop with an ambition to build a unique espresso brand and to develop a creative environment that connects to its location on Madison Avenue near Grand Central Station. Inspired by the nearby Bryant Park Library, nemaworkshop designed a store that is straightforward in a simple twisted way – Take a library and turn it SIDEWAYS. The booklined shelves become the floor and ceilings and wood floor ends up on the walls meanwhile the pendants protrude sideways from the wall. To achieve the books shelves on the floor, the space is lined with sepia-toned full size photograph of books printed on custom tiles. The custom tiles run along the floor, up the 15Ê foot wall and across the ceiling. The frosted glass wall behind the service counter illuminates the space and the wall directly opposite is clad in dark brown herringbone. The thrust of this concept finds expression in the lighting and materiality, and ultimately the space gives definition to the emerging brand. The concept itself is bold and receptive to future locations.
El cliente se acercó a Nemaworkshop con la ambición de construir una marca de café espresso única y desarrollar un entorno creativo que se conectase con su ubicación en la Avenida Madison, cerca de la Grand Central Station. Inspirados por la cercana biblioteca del Parque Bryant, Nema workshop diseñó una tienda que con una idea aparentemente sencilla: tener una biblioteca y darle la vuelta. Las estanterías de libros se convierten en pavimentos y falsos techos mientras que el suelo de madera termina en las paredes y las lámparas sobresalen hacia los lados de la pared. Para conseguir colocar las estanterías en el pavimento, el espacio se reviste con fotografías a tamaño real, en tonos sepia, de libros impresos sobre baldosas personalizadas. Éstas recorren la planta hasta el muro y a través del techo. La pared de vidrio esmerilado detrás del mostrador de servicio ilumina el espacio, y la pared de enfrente está revestida en marrón oscuro con hiladas colocadas en espina de pez. El empuje de este concepto encuentra su expresión en la iluminación y la materialidad, y en última instancia el espacio da definición a esta marca emergente. El concepto, en sí mismo, es audaz y receptivo a futuras localizaciones.
