Certificate III in Tourism Career Training Institute of Australia (CTIA), together with Off Road Adventure Safaris (ORAS), is offering this program funded through the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program. The objective is to provide a set program which addresses all the necessary criteria for the Certificate III in Tourism in an exciting, cost effective experience of a lifetime. Course content has been designed with transferrable skills in mind, therefore providing skills and knowledge which allow entry into a wide range of roles within the Tourism and many other industries. COURSE COST Government subsidies are available for eligible participants under the Certificate 3 Guarantee. There is a student contributio n fee of $4 5 for concessional students and $90 for non-concessio nal students (see over for concessional and co urse eligibility). COURSE INCLUSION S All training and assessment to complete the Certificate III in Tourism including but not limited to : 5 Night / 6 Day Working Tour All Meals and Accommodation All Internal and External Activities including: Indigenous Experiences Adventure Caving Structured Tourism Industry Insights 1770 Larc Tour Cania Gorge LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will learn about: Indigenous language, history and storytelling Bush tucker Environmental sustainability & conservation Facets of the Tourism industry Social and cultural sensitivity Teamwork, communication and interaction skills Customer Service Eco and sustainable Tourism Safe work practices (workplace health and safety)

Frequently Asked Questions… W H AT AR E T H E B E N EF IT S OF UN D ER T A KI NG T HI S Q U A LI FI C AT IO N ? The Certificate III in Tourism provides a pathway to work in many tourism and travel industry sectors and for a diversity of employers including retail travel agencies, tour wholesalers, tour operators, attractions, cultural and heritage sites and any small tourism business requiring multi-skilled employees. Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism and travel products and services takes place, in the field where products are delivered or a combination of both. In addition, this program has been designed with transferrable skills in mind, therefore providing participants will skills and knowledge which would allow them entry into a wide range of roles within many different industries. Participants who successfully complete could progress to a wide range of other qualifications in the service industries including a Certificate IV in Tourism and finally a Diploma of Travel & Tourism.

W HO I S E LI GIB L E TO P A RTI CI P A T E? Any Qld resident who does not already hold, or is not already enrolled in, a post-school Certificate III or higher level qualification from 1 July 2013 (this includes any equivalent Certificate III or higher level qualification). NOTE: Certificate III qualifications completed at secondary school are not counted & participants under the Single and Teenage Parent Program (STPP), are exempt from the eligibility criteria relating to previous qualification attained); prospective participants must also be: - aged 15 years of age or above & no longer at school and must be a Queensland resident. Employment status does not matter - a participant can be unemployed and seeking work, or working on a full-time, part-time or casual basis.

W H AT AR E P AR T IC IP AN TS A W AR D E D A T C OM PL E TI ON ? Upon successful completion of all units of competencies in the course, participants will be issued with a Certificate III in Tourism. Should a participant not complete the entire course then a Statement of Attainment will be given for the units successfully completed.

W HO A R E C ON C ES S IO NA L P A RT IC IP AN T S Where the participant or participant’s family or guardian is responsible for the payment of any student contribution fee a concessional participant is defined as: a) b) c)

a person who holds or is listed on a Health Care concession card or Pensioner concession card issued under Commonwealth law; or a person not currently working; or a person who is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

H OW WI LL P AR TI CI P AN T S B E A SS E S S E D ? Assessment is competency based, in that the participant will be required to demonstrate competency in a range of tasks. Assessment procedures are transparent and address the key assessment principles of being valid, reliable, flexible and fair. Assessment strategies include a range of techniques, which include, but are not limited to the use of; direct observation, questions & answers, practical exercises, and case studies. Participants who can demonstrate that they are already competent in the knowledge and skills of a unit of competency, or have previously completed a course, may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer.

H OW I S T H E C O UR S E D E LI V ER E D AN D H O W L ON G W I LL I T T A K E ? Participants study via a combination of face-to-face tutorials; on line theory and assessment delivery and an intensive 6 day / 5 night mobile classroom tour. On line studies are self-paced (approximately 20 – 30 hours) – in addition there will be 4 days of tutorials/assessments culminating in the 6 day tour where practical skills can be assessed and participants can be exposed to the Tourism industry from many different angles. There may be some reduction in training dependent on any RPL/Credit Transfers that may apply.
