Well known for being innovative, welcoming and entrepreneurial, the city of Caxias do Sul is a national reference in economic, social and human development. The city is also recognized as an entrepreneurial-exporting hub in the country. Caxias do Sul was established by Italian immigrants in 1875. They settled down, urbanized the region, and started a fast-paced process of industrialization. Our city is considered the second metals-mechanical hub in Brazil and we also have the highest level of industries per capita. There is one company constituted for every 13,5 inhabitant in town. That entrepreneurial characteristic is reflected in the workforce - more than 180 thousand formal jobs, which is nearly twice the number of ten years ago. Although we are focused on metals-mechanical industry, the jobs are spread all over different sectors, mainly to the plastic industry, furniture and wood sectors, food, Information Technology area and civil construction area. Tourism and trading commerce are services which grow faster every year to sustain the local and visitors continuous demand for this kind of services. With the same degree of importance emerges a continued growth in business focused on the service sector, especially for tourism and trade. Increasingly the city moves forward in providing quality services, with trained staff to meet local and visitors demands, showing higher figures every year. The capacity to generate income consolidated in the GDP for the city, which in 2009 surpassed R$12,5billion, figure which represented 5,8% of the state of Rio Grande do Sul . The GDP per capita of R$30,5 thousand overcomes in more than 50% the state average and in 70% the national one. The economic performance reflects in the quality of life. In the Human Development Index 2011, elaborated by the UN, Caxias do Sul was ranked on the 12th position in the country and 3rd position in the state. The city maintains its welcoming characteristic, since the early years the immigrants first came to this land. The urban รกrea , with more than 174 thousand homes, representing 95% of the total population, is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, vineyards, and beautiful old constructions. The city, divided along different and varied ethnic lines preserves the traditions that have builted this town. One of the symbols of this city is its typical Italian cuisine, which differs from others in taste, and flavor which are the results of the warming and welcoming people that live and work here preserving the traditions of its proud homeland. Whatever it is you are looking for, be sure to find it in Caxias do Sul Inaugurated in 1975, the “Mario Bernardino Ramos Exhibition Center”, named after one of the former mayors of the city, is the biggest place in Caxias do Sul to hold your event . The existing infrastructure has more than 30 thousand square meters of built area, ideal to hold technical exhibitions, such as MERCOPAR, PLASTECH BRASIL, FEBRAMEC, MÃOS DA TERRA and AUTOPARTS, all events of international reference. Every two years the park also hosts the FESTA DA UVA - THE GRAPE FESTIVAL, the second largest event at community level in Brazil. Less than five years ago, a modern Convention Center with nearly 12 thousand square meters of floorplace was inaugurated inside the Mario Bernadino Ramos Exhibition Park. This center which has two floors and an elevator/ escalator provides a place for exhibitions, conventions, seminars and events of all sizes. The total area for the park is almost 350 thousand square meters. Provided with two big parking lots, one of them with capacity for 3,5 thousand vehicles and the other with a wide space for 200 buses. A covered area is also provided to shows, musicals and other types of countryside events, such as rodeos and others. There are two big restaurants, monuments,and the replica of Caxias do Sul resembling 20 houses from the year of 1875. And the biggest attraction is the the monument for JESUS OF THE THIRD MILLENIUM (Monumento Jesus TERCEIRO MILENIO), from where you can have a privileged view of the city. Below the monument, tourists and visitors can visit a museum with sacred pieces. Apart from the Mario Bernardino Ramos Exhibition Center, or Parque da Festa da Uva, Caxias do Sul offers a great deal of alternatives to make your event happen. Most of the hotels own Convention Centers, as well as the University and Colleges and the units of SESC and SESI , can offer good theaters and auditoriums. Famous for its gastronomy, Caxias do Sul owns more than 300 restaurants, bars, dinings, cafeterias, canteens with capacity to receive approximately 13 thousand people. Each one of them has its own characteristic and special seasonings to please even the most demanding tastes. The italian cuisine, based on chicken, polenta, pasta and radicci, is the top attraction in Caxias do Sul. Each restaurant serves different styles based on this typical dish, which is the association of abundance and special Italian flavoring. The traditional Gaucho food with its “all you can eat” style, consists of exotic types of beef. The pizzerias (all you can eat), offer more than 50 different combinations of choices, from salty to sweet flavours, even with ice cream on top. The famous snack bars transformed the typical cheese burger on a full meal. There are restaurants specialised in pasta and different kinds of meat, typically from Caxias do Sul, which have attracted international food restaurants, some of them specialised in asian food, and supermarket chains. The University of Caxias do Sul (UCS), has been training and qualifying professionals in its Gastronomy School, and thanks to it, our restaurants have commited professionals capable of offering a wide range of different types of dishes. The cultural diversity is one of the trade marks of Caxias do Sul, which is listed among the 10 Brazilian cities in the Indice de Gestao Municipal em Cultura.
