There isn’t much institutional support here save for a few prizes. Regarding prizes granted by private organizations, they’re almost always given out to the same old, scurfy poets. The best work, in my opinion, is that carried out by independent publishers.
Aquí no hay mucha ayuda institucional salvo varios premios. En cuanto a los premios de empresas privadas, casi siempre se lo reparten a los mismos poetas casposos y viejos. El mejor trabajo, en mi opinión, lo hacen las editoriales independientes.
Very few books are sold, in any case, and the community is small. What’s more, just as you’ve said, among those interested in literature, many aspire to be poets. The funniest thing in Spain is something we always say: it feels like there are more people writing poetry than reading it. It’s really sad, isn’t it?
Se venden muy pocos libros, de todos modos, y la comunidad es pequeña. Además, como tú has dicho, de entre los interesados en la literatura hay mucha gente aspirante a poeta. Lo más gracioso de España es algo que siempre decimos: parece que hay más poetas que lectores de poesía. Eso es triste, ¿no?
