The Importance of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde’s brilliant and much-loved comedy of love, manners and mistaken identity has been delighting audiences for over 100 years. It’s Victorian England and two young bachelors have taken to bending the truth to add a dash of excitement to their lives. Jack invents a brother ‘Ernest’ as an excuse to leave his dull country life behind him so he can pursue Gwendolen, the delectable daughter of the formidable Lady Bracknell. Across town Algernon decides to take the name Ernest, when visiting Jack’s young ward Cecily. When each gentleman is forced to unwind his web of lies and reveal himself – being earnest takes on a new meaning! Diary of a Football Nobody is a candid warts-and-all tale of what it was like to play football at Notts County in the 1970s – a world far removed from the riches and celebrity of the modern game. This new play is written by acclaimed Nottinghamshire writer William Ivory, whose recent successes include the screenplay for the film Made in Dagenham and his TV adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s Women in Love. Full of down-to-earth comedy and tales of boozing, bust-ups and the unique style of the legendary Jimmy Sirrel, Diary of a Football Nobody takes audiences on a light-hearted journey to a bygone age of football, marking Notts County’s 150th anniversary. Ain’t Nothin’ but a Heartache A rare opportunity to hear from one of the first black stars to appear on British TV, singer Viola Billups, aka Pearly Gates from Alabama, and Nottingham’s community activist, Louise Garvey. They will be reminiscing about emigrating to the UK and invite you share your stories with them over a cup of tea and cake. There will also be an exhibition during Black History Month of letters, artwork, photographs and documents from the Oswald George Powe collection in the Upper Foyer, curated by Nottingham Black Archive.

An Evening with Dave Giles, The Candle Thieves and Danny Gruff Essex-born singer-songwriter Dave Giles performs his own brand of acoustic folk rock. Jack by Mike Kenny Touring Primary Schools from 5 November – 12 December 2012 Magic beans, a huge beanstalk, a hungry giant and a boy – bring them together and you have all the ingredients for a magical Christmas tale for 4 – 8 year olds. Mike Kenny’s version of Jack and the Beanstalk combines music, puppetry and lots of fun, as well as providing teachers with a great opportunity to explore traditional stories and male role models.

What is the best thing you’ve seen or experienced at the Playhouse? There are so many over the years! Reasons to be Cheerful and Forever Young earlier this year were fantastic – both incredibly funny but also very poignant.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I love working in a live theatre environment – it’s fun, sociable and rewarding. I enjoy helping customers and being a small part of a great world-class theatre.
