AN ALL-AMERICAN DAY

The 12th Avenue and Irving Recreation Center’s summer camp program made a special visit to the University of Oklahoma’s Everest Athletic facility on Wednesday afternoon, July 27th. The freshman athletic program at the university invited both camps to participate in an afternoon of physical education activities to promote healthy lifestyles. The campers rotated from activity station to activity station consisting of soccer, baseball, gymnastics, and track and field.
While the campers were having fun participating in the activity stations a special visitor made a surprise appearance, to the campers bewilderment it was All-American Quarterback for the Sooners, Baker Mayfield. Mayfield showed up to film an ESPN story for E:60 and interacted with the campers throughout the entire program. Along with Mayfield there were also freshman athletes from the universities other sport programs such as; wrestling, gymnastics, baseball, and football assisting in the program instruction as well. At the end of the activity Baker Mayfield along with the other athletes gave motivational speeches on the importance of keeping fit and being active. Each of the athletes took time to answer questions from the campers as well as having their photos taken with each and every child that wanted to take a picture. All the campers as well as the camp staff had a great time making this one of the most memorable activities from this past summer. The 12th Avenue and Irving Recreation Center Summer Camp program is an 11 week program consisting of 72 campers and 11 camp staff. The summer camp programs are offered each summer Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
