Board Meetings Third Monday of the Month

Conference Call NEXT MEETING 6:15pm November 16, 2020 NODA News 2020, Page 2

Dear NODA Members, Greetings!

Arthur

I find it hard to believe that it is November already and before we know it Thanksgiving will be here. One thing I am thankful for is that 2020 will be over soon. It has been a difficult year, but the NODA board is looking forward to 2021. Niki Sackman & Raina

Our members only, virtual education program, ‘An Evening Dressage Chat with George Williams’, was a huge success. Williams provided insight into fitness, straightness, lateral exercises, and collection exercises as he took questions from members. NODA had strong interest from member and non-member dressage riders throughout the region, but we chose to keep this interactive experience limited to members only to allow for a smaller group. Please note the proposed revisions to the NODA By-Laws will be voted on November 16th at the monthly board meeting. This meeting is open to the members. You may participate and vote on the proposed changes. If interested in attending the virtual Zoom meeting, please send me an email at President@nodarider.org no later than, Saturday, November 14th. The By-Laws were printed in Issues 9 and 10, 2020 if you need to review them.

The Recognized Show Committee has been reviewing changes for the 2021 shows. Currently we are under contract negotiations with Pure Gold Stables & Equestrian Center in Salem, Ohio as the venue for the shows to be held June 26th and July 27th, 2021. Other changes to the shows are that both shows will become Level I shows with only one ring each day. Please watch the newsletter and website for more details once they are confirmed. The Schooling Show Committee is nailing down sates and we are all looking forward to a full series of shows in 2021. We feel like no matter what the COVID-19 situation is next year, we learned quite a bit about safely hosting shows and events during the second half of 2020 and we’re ready go in the new year. The popular Adult Camp will be offered again in 2021 and held sometime in July at Pure Gold Stables & Equestrian Center. I know the committee is working hard making preparations for the event. New for 2021 are plans to include a ride-a-test with a licensed judge on the last day of camp. Closer to the event details and registration forms will be available. If you are interested in attending, register early. Auditors are welcome to observe lessons and the ride-a-test. I am wishing you and your family an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Niki Cover: Hannah Powalie riding her OTTB, Niko's Purple, is the first Western dressage horse and rider combination to win high point T.I.P. with a score of 62.500%. T.I.P. is the Thoroughbred Incentive Program created to encourage the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon completion of careers in racing or breeding. T.I.P. offers incentives for competition horses, recreational horses, young riders and Thoroughbreds in a non-competitive second career as well as a Championship horse show.

Jean Kraus Named USDF's 2020 Volunteer of the Year Honoree Lexington, KY The United States Dressage Federation™ (USDF) is pleased to announce that Jean Kraus, of Fulton, MO, has been selected as USDF’s 2020 Volunteer of the Year honoree. Members recognized with this honor have demonstrated exceptional commitment towards carrying out USDF's mission, through consistent and cumulative volunteer activities. As this year’s honoree, Jean will be presented with a perpetual trophy, established by Lisa Gorretta, which is on permanent display in the Roemer Foundation/USDF Hall of Fame. She will also receive a “keeper” trophy and be featured in the yearbook issue of USDF Connection. In addition to being a Registered Technical Delegate (TD), Jean also holds advanced degrees in Counseling Psychology and Information Science. This education has provided Jean with tools that she has applied to the development of education programs for TDs, including course curriculum for TD and Pony Measurement clinics and online learning modules and resources. Jean also currently serves as USDF Technical Delegates Committee Chair, is a member of the USDF Licensed Officials Education Task Force and Regional Championships Committee, and serves on the USDF Rules Advisory Working Group and the Licensed Officials Working Group of the United States Equestrian Federation Dressage Sport Committee. According to Jean, her role as a teacher, being a tenured professor of Equestrian Studies at William Woods University, permeates everything she does as a TD, evidenced by her mission to promote positive learning and spark the student’s interest in and pursuit of lifelong learning and its application in her development of TD education. USDF President Lisa Gorretta commented, “Jean is a perfect choice for this important recognition of national service. She serves not only as a committee chair, but as an integral member of several other committees and working groups, always saying ‘yes’ when asked. Jean brings energy and enthusiasm to every challenge she takes on and encourages both new and seasoned volunteers to work with her in accomplishing the tasks. She seamlessly transitions between her professional life as a college professor and an educator in the field for us and we are very lucky to have her.” For more information about the USDF visit www.usdf.org. News and Updates from Karen Puchalsky NODA’s Dressage Foundation GMO Liaison Virtual clinic spots to be auctioned: Would you like personal advice from Olivia LaGoy-Weltz or Sabine Schut-Kery? Here's your opportunity to gain their valuable input while supporting The Dressage Foundation (TDF). TDF has held two auctions for clinic spots with Laura Graves and Adrienne Lyle. They will be announcing soon the auction for Olivia LaGoy-Weltz and Sabine Schut-Kery. To participate: TEN virtual clinic spots with each instructor will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. Winners will submit videos and receive feedback from one of our country's top riders. It's that simple! Video Info: All breeds and all rider levels welcome. Your video should be no more than 15 minutes. Your video can be of a schooling session or from a competition. We recommend wearing light-colored clothing and using a light-colored saddle pad so the clinicians can see your body and leg position. The clinician will provide you with voice or written critique. TDF will connect the winning bidders to the clinicians for video submission and review.

The money raised from these auctions will help TDF with operating funds (aka the hardest money to raise!). Operating funds basically keep our lights on...they help with salaries, training, postage, ribbons for the Century Club, and so on. You can imagine how needed these funds are. Here is a link to that auction: https://www.32auctions.com/ VirtualClinicSeries2 or Contact The Dressage Foundation at (402) 434-8585 or info@dressagefoundation.org

Upcoming Grant: Gerhard Politz Instructor Education Fund for Young Adults -to supports young adults who desire to become dressage professionals, by providing grants to attend the USDF Instructor/Trainer Program.
