OU’VE JUST SPENT A LONG SATURDAY TAKING IN ALL THE ACTION, SUSPENSE AND DRAMA OF THE FORTUNA RODEO. THE SUN BEATING

down. The dust flying up. Without really realizing it, you’ve been perched on the edge of your bleacher seat for hours, living and dying with each run. Finally, you catch your breath. Geez, you might be more tense than the competitors themselves! It’s time to unwind. Head on over to the cook shack, scarf down some friendly barbecued ribs, suck down a beer. OK. You’ve got your second wind goin’. It’s time to let loose. That’s when The Rupert Duncan Band swoops in to be your one-night-only musical savior. Rupert and the gang have the honor of being the party band for the annual high-energy, rowdy, tuck-the-kids-in-bed-’cuz-we’regettin’-down-tonight Cowboy Mixer at the Fortuna Fireman’s Pavillion starting at 8 p.m. Bring your good time energy. This band will give it right back. “We play music that makes people want to jump up and dance.” Duncan says. “If the people aren’t dancing and having a good time, then we aren’t doing our job.” Hailing from Sacramento, the Rupert Duncan Band has specialized in country, southern rock and gold ol’ rock ‘n’ roll for nearly a decade now. Over the past few years, Duncan has played gigs in all over Northern California, Oregon, Nevada and even Montana. Wondering if the band knows your favorite song? Head on over to rupertduncan.com and peruse its extensive setlist. You needin’ a little

bit of that “Old Time Rock ‘N’ Roll?” Duncan’s got it. Maybe you’d like to mellow out with a “Peaceful, Easy Feeling?” Check. Or maybe you’d like to waste away in “Margaritaville?” Well, you have that option. From Toby Keith and Dierks Bently all the way back to Hank Williams and Waylon Jennings, these guys have got stuff you can sing and dance to all night. More than just a jukebox, Rupert Duncan is also an accomplished songwriter in his own right. Over the years, Duncan has recorded songs in Nashville and even had the honor of being produced by the late Ronnie Montrose. While the covers are a lot of fun, naturally he gets a different personal satisfaction out of playing his original material and getting a reaction. “I love it when we play these songs at a show and people come up and say, ‘Who sings that song?’ That’s when I just light up and say, “We do! That’s our original stuff.” So if you’d like to make Rupert “light up,” mosey on up to the stage and request “Would You Take Me Drunk?” or “It’s Got To Be Country.” Sure, he’d be glad to play ‘em for ya. Saturday Night’s Cowboy Mixer is sponsored by Holiday Inn Express. ✪
