Pickleball

Yes, PICKLEBALL – the fun game with the funny name! Created in the backyard of Washington Congressman Joel Pritchard in 1965, it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Using a badminton-sized court, tennis-height net, table tennis-type paddle, and a baseball-sized wiffle ball, usually played by doubles, this game has few rules and is far less strenuous than tennis. It is easy to learn and provides plenty of exercise and eye-hand coordination; a game of strategy for both men and women, you don’t have to be tall and powerful. Want to watch a video? Go to USAPA.org, click on link to “What is Pickleball?” Register for a LIMITED ATTENDANCE FREE CLINIC to learn the game, or sit in on any open court session to see if you’d like it. *Starting October 1, Pickleball participants will be purchasing a punch card in the Recreation Office (Monday – Friday - 8am – 4pm) for $30 for residents/$40 for non-residents which is good for 10 plays for either Thursday or Saturday. Each participant is responsible for bringing their card and punching it each time they play. Once the card is completed, participants can purchase another card for $30/$40 for 10 more plays. Below are the dates for play on Thursdays and Saturdays in November, December, and January using the punch card as well as SKIP dates. Drop in rate for participants to play just one day without a punch card is a $5.00 fee. Thursdays (1:00 - 3:00pm) – Nov 7, 21, Dec 5, 12, 19, Jan 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 (Skip 11/14, 11/28, 12/26) Saturdays (9:00-11:00am) – Nov 2, 9, 23, 30, Dec 7, 21, 28, Jan 4, 11, 18, 25 (Skip 11/16, 12/7) OP

It is a card game, originated in Central Europe in the late 1700s, and popular in Wisconsin, because of its’ large German-American population. Although this game of Chinese tiles is played by 4 people, the play is individual so partners are not needed. Groups of “Mahj” friends play regularly for years, so come and see why so many people have enjoyed this game for so long! You too will be able to play after this class. Bridge Lessons

Our bridge lessons start in the fall and are an ongoing series of 6-week sessions that continue through May. The beginning lessons at 10:00am are geared to those who enjoy cards but don’t have bridge experience, have played a minimal amount of bridge, or who have not played in years. The intermediate lessons at 1:00pm are designed to enhance basic knowledge and improve skill levels while learning current conventions and strategies. This class is usually taken after our first year class. Because bridge is a game that needs a strong foundation of basic knowledge, our classes are only offered to new students in the fall of each year, so now is the time to jump in with both feet. Don’t worry about missing a few classes as we review concepts regularly. These classes do fill quickly. We have a limit of 18 students per class and only accept additional students mid-year if space is available AND knowledge of prior concepts is shown. If you have any questions on class content or where you would best fit, please give our instructor, Billie Dillon, a call prior to the start of the sessions at 262-893-8877. Come join us to make new friendships and keep your brain busy. Day: Thursdays Location: Range Line School - Room 107 11040 N.
