Capture the Conqueror’s Pony Live Auction Only Measures 58” tall x 48” wide By Jim Nelson Acrylic on canvas Jim Nelson is a nationally acclaimed painter and storyteller of Lakota legends. Although not native by heritage, his formative years were spent in the shadow of Pine Ridge where he intermingled with his Lakota friends from an early age, coming to know them as well as their culture. Also known as Tsagaglal, the stone image in the Columbia Gorge is both a petroglyph and a pictograph, making her unique in the area. Journey Towards Inner Strength Measures 28” tall x 28” wide By Shaun Peterson, Puyallup Edition 56/150 Shaun Peterson, or Qwalsius, is a pivotal figure in the revitalization of Coast Salish art. Trained in traditional methods of design, painting, and carving, Peterson uses those skills in concert with materials that were not part of the traditional art form. Faced with scarcity of once-abundant materials, Peterson believes that innovation is a part of tradition and vital to its survival. Inspired by traditional coming-of-age stories told to him by elders, this print commemorates the native oral history tradition and gives life to the sea being that embodies our fears. Metamorphosis Measures 35” tall x 35” wide By Clifton Guthrie, Tsimshian Guthrie’s passion for Tsimshian culture and art was ingrained in him from childhood. Royalty Measures 25” tall x 34” wide By Peter Boome, Coast Salish Edition 27/85 An accomplished artist and member of the Upper Skagit Tribe, Boome is best known for his hand-pulled serigraphs, such as the rhythmic design offered here. The largest of all salmon, king salmon represent the beauty and bounty of the Pacific Northwest. This striking print shows king salmon swimming upstream to spawn. Andy Benally Painting Measures 30” tall x 42” wide By Andy Benally Acrylic on canvas Best known for his figure paintings, Benally uses acrylic and watercolor to paint the legends and stories his grandfather told him. His impressionistic landscapes, a blend of realistic and surrealistic images, are filled with the mysticism of dreams, and include totems, bear brothers, and shaman visions. Koshare Kiva Pot Measures 8” tall x 7” wide By Linda Lucero Fragua, Jemez Pueblo Three charming koshare (clown) figures adorn this painted kiva pot. A traditional form, the kiva pot is an artful representation of an underground ceremonial room – complete with ladder for access through the roof! Avanyu Vessel Measures 3” tall x 4.5” wide By Kathy Gutierrez, San Ildefonso Pueblo Avanyu is a Tewa deity, a guardian of waterways and harbinger of storms. Represented as a horned or plumed serpent with curves suggestive of flowing water or the zig-zag of lightning, Avanyu appears on the walls of caves located high above canyon rivers in New Mexico and Arizona. This softly angled vessel depicts Avanyu in glossy red clay. Dramatically graphic, the water serpent shines against the velvety matte-painted surface for a harmonious effect. Seed Pot Measures 2.5” tall x 5” wide By Becky Pasquale, Acoma Pueblo Intricate overlapping floral designs and finely lined geometric sections surround the engaging bird painted in black and terracotta on this diminutive seed pot. Seed pots are designed to store and protect the seeds over winter from rodents and insects. Spirit of the Driftwood Measures 11” tall x 10” wide By Adam John, Athabascan Hand carved and decorated with downy feathers, this delicate spirit mask depicts the Spirit of the Driftwood, with three attached “helping spirits”. “Where I grew up, everyone was involved with some form of ‘making’ and creation; from snowshoes, to knitting, to moccasins and carvings. Their objects took on special meaning, and the passing of time during their making acted as both a catalyst for intergenerational exchange, and an opportunity for recounting stories of the day. Gray Wolf Panel Measures 30” tall x 9” wide By Andy Wilbur Peterson, Skokomish At the age of eighteen, Andy taught himself how to carve, paint and make bentwood boxes. Today, Andy's work includes carved panels, bentwood boxes, drums, paddles, speaker staffs, and more. This elongated panel, carved in 2022, shows a relaxed wolf complete with a lolling tongue. Head to Head: Eagle Bentwood Box Measures 8.5” tall x 7.5” wide By Andy Wilbur Peterson, Skokomish Bentwood boxes are among the most versatile objects made by the Northwest Coast peoples. Crafted using an ingenious technique that was specific to the region, the wood is bent to a 90degree angle in three corners with the fourth corner being pegged, sewn or glued. In pre-contact times, when there were no metal tools or nails, this technique proved highly reliable for making strong, durable and watertight containers that were perfect for any number of uses. This classic bentwood box depicts Eagle in traditional Salish design, and is a true testament to the art form. Thank you to Paul Lumley


Raven Steals Fire Measures 16” tall x 15” wide By Fred Cooper, Coast Salish Yellow cedar, acrylics Raven is a frequent figure in many stories, from the origins of the sun and moon, to the beginnings of humanity itself. A clever trickster, he can often be found shaping the very existence of the world into how we see it today. Two Grey Hills Weaving Measures 28” long x 15” wide By Ethel Yazzie, Navajo This attractive rug is a pristine example of the classic Two Grey Hills weaving design, with its stabilizing feeling of balance and symmetry. Two Grey Hills rugs are best known for their exclusive use of only natural wool colors.
