THE NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH AND FAMILY CENTER

18TH ANNUAL GALA AND AUCTION presented by Comcast NBCUniversal

With your partnership and support, we are truly Stronger Together

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER With your help and support, we raised a record breaking $568,000, providing critical unrestricted funds for our wraparound services that touch the lives of 10,000 community members each year. Thank you for joining us at our 18th Annual NAYA Gala and Auction, the largest celebration of National Native American Heritage Month in the Pacific northwest. While this was the second year we gathered virtually with a livestream presentation, we were so pleased that you joined us with such resounding support! In the safety of your own homes, or among friends at watch parties around the region, we all celebrated in true NAYA style! We are grateful for the inspiring remarks provided by Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Presenting Sponsor Comcast NBCUniversal Oregon/SW Washington Senior Director Tim Goodman, and NAYA CEO Babtist Paul Lumley. We thank our host Johnna Wells for graciously leading a phenomenal evening of giving; and thank our special guests and performers: Ei-Shah Pirtle-Wright, for her beautiful land acknowledgement and blessing; Adriana Reyes, Chenoa Landry Norcross, and Migezi Norcross for their wonderful fancy shawl dance; Star Nayea for sharing her song of love; and to Portugal. The Man for closing the evening with a special intimate performance. We also thank the many talented artists and community members who provided amazing works od art for our signature auction that continues to raise the profile of this event each year. And most of all, we thank you, our sponsors, partners and supporters, for the incredible affirmation of our work and for celebrating with us. We are truly stronger together.

THE NAYA COMMUNITY: THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT Over the past year and a half in a pandemic, we have witnessed more and more, what and how much we can achieve when we come together to help Portland’s Native community. We are grateful for you, our partners, who continue to invest in NAYA because you trust us to deliver the critical services our community needs, including: • Celebrating graduation in June as all nine seniors received their diplomas, and welcoming our students back to in-person learning at our Many Nations Academy in September • Reopening our Early Head Start at Applegate School because we know that children aged 0–3 who participate in a culturally-relevant education program are more likely to succeed • Hosting COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics as a trusted partner, helping our community to get the support they need • Expanding our community garden to grow an amazing amount of vegetables and traditional medicine, bringing together volunteers and community members to reclaim food sovereignty • Beginning lease-up for our second affordable housing development, Mamook Tokatee, and breaking ground on our third, Hayu Tillixam, in the Cully neighborhood, bringing the Native community closer to NAYA’s campus and services • Distributing thousands of dollars to help community members stay warm and safe in their homes When we look back on this past year, we’ll remember that with your help, we have been able to respond to our community’s challenges, providing financial resources to keep Native businesses alive, schools safe, food on tables, people employed, and much, much more. We will also remember the unprecedented beauty of you, our partners and supporters, helping us deliver our mission-driven work to wrap our services around Native families, empower the community, and uphold our cultural values and traditions.
