our National Tiles team of talented interior designers works with homeowners all around Australia, helping them to clarify the style of home they want to achieve and the materials that will help them achieve the look they are trying to create. These design professionals have experience working with every aesthetic, and they understand the key elements required to bring these aesthetics to life in a home. We asked them to create flat lays for four of the most sought-after design styles and explain the best ways to get the look.

MODERN FARMHOUSE:

Caitlin Wallace, Adina Pegg & Sarah Warren Mile End Design Group, South Australia

The Modern Farmhouse aesthetic balances the rustic nature of a farmhouse with the sleek industrial elements of modern design. The black and white foundation is built upon with pops of colour influenced by Mother Nature. Textural elements like bricks, timbers, wood panelling, shiplap, strapping and exposed beams add warmth, visual interest and character. Patterned tiles pay homage to the classic country farmhouse, whilst sleeker finishes and black detailing reflect the industrial edge.

COASTAL CONTEMPORARY: Mitcham,

Victoria

A Contemporary Coastal aesthetic is a fusion of raw and rugged materials with a purified simplicity and pared-back style. Neutral tones, natural textures and seaside shades create harmony. Taking cues from a Contemporary style with clean lines and integrated storage a dark masculine edge is softened with shades that reflect the coastal feel. Concrete and render, timber cladding, and floor to ceiling glazing create large open and light-filled spaces.

MID CENTURY MODERN:

Simonds, Melbourne

The Mid Century Modern architectural style is inspired by the Bauhaus movement. The colour palette features soft shades of mint paired with chromed steel, a walnut interior, and deep olive & brown tan highlights that bring the outside in. The retro minimalist look is understated with clean lines and minimal fuss. Timber is a key material – for floors, panelled walls, ceilings and furniture. Patterned, shaped and bold coloured tiles, terrazzo and dark timber cabinetry create a playful mood.
