The good news is that while pairing wines and food is often a topic that is overly stressed and debated about, the rules surrounding the art of such matching are no longer bound by rules such as only white with white meat. However, it still probably does so little in your confusion about how to pair your favourite flavours with certain elements of a dish. To save you from this dilemma, and make things easier for you the next time you buy whisky in Singapore, we’ve created this guide that enumerates the basic rules for a successful wine & food pairings.


How to Pair Your Wine with Food The wine should be more acidic than the food. The wine should taste sweeter than the food. The wide should have the same level of flavour intensity as the food Red Wines go best with strongly flavoured red meats White wines go best with light-tasting meals such as fish or chicken The bitter taste of red wine can be balanced with fat For better pairings, match the wine with sauce rather than with the meat


Wine & Food Pairings Sauvignon Blanc This crisp, lighter wine is high in acidity level and contains great amounts of citrus. It pairs well with dishes that are lighter yet full of flavours such as cheese, chicken, turkey and pork. It also goes exceptionally well with seafood such as fatty white fish, scallops, oysters, lobster, and shrimp.

Chardonnay Chardonnay can be served in different styles. But, in general, the wine should taste great with dishes and flavours which other white wines might taste flat. Its high acidity makes it perfect for creamy and rich foods such as mild, semi-soft cheeses, chicken, pork, veal, shrimp, crab, potato, apple, and mango.

Pinot Noir Pinot noir is a beautiful combination of flavours and aromas. It is great for dishes with earthy flavours and recipes made with ingredients such as mushrooms and truffles. Some wine enthusiasts also love their Pinot Noir with goat cheese, walnuts, lamb, sausage, chicken, tuna, and salmon.
