Fedoronchuk, supervisor, THE PODIL'S'KI TOVTRY NATIONAL NATURE PARK Tovtry - the local name of rocky arc-shaped ridge, the height within NNP is 401 meters above sea level. This ridge raises for 60 - 65 meters from the surrounding plain. The Tovtry is a barrier reef from the Miocene Sea and consists of different kinds of limestone. There are no analogies in the world, although there are some similar geological structures of rocky ridges in Great Britain and the United States The Tovtry began to form on the bases of the coastal reefs, where there were concentrations of different types of minerals. Microclimate of Prydnistrovya (the area along the Dnister River in the Kamyanets Region) is formed by the Tovtry Ridge, the Dnister's canyons and the Dnister's inflows. Therefore, special conditions were formed for preserving rare and relict plants, among which, the majority are medicinal. The PODIL'S'KI Tovtry National Nature Park was established according to the Presidential Decree No.476\96 on 06/27/96 with the purpose of concervation, restoration and the rational use of natural landscapes of Podillya and its unique historical-cultural complexes. These landscapes and comlpexes have esthetic, scientific, recreational, medicinal and environmental protection value. The PODIL'S'KI Tovtry NNP is a natural protectional, recreational, cultural-educational and scientific organization of state value. The microclimate of the territory of Prydnistrovya is formed by the Tovtry Ridge and canyons of the Dnister River and its inflows. That is why there were formed special conditions for preserving rare and relict plants, the majority of which are medical. The territory of the Park is rich in mineral waters, such as "Naftusia", "Myrgorodska", "Minska" and others. On the territory of National Natural Park "PODIL'S'KI Tovtry" the presence both unique handmade objects, and unique natural complexes, rich in the events history, interesting flora and fauna produced the unique conditions for the development of tourism not only sanitary, but also cognitive (on the territory of park there are 130 objects of natural reserved fund under the protection, among them there are parks and manors of different degree of preservation and cultural - historical level, there are 2977 species, forms and kinds of plants from different climatic zones, including trees and bushes 521 species, from the tree-bushes and herbaceous flora - 395 species of foetus plants, 620 species of tropical, 111 species of useful herbaceous plants of local and wild flora; 19 archeological sights. On this territory any activity, which causes or might cause changing for the worse the state of the environment and understatement of the recreational value of the territory of the National Natural Park is prohibited.In these zones threre are 21 stationary recreational establishments (sanatoriumsї, tourist centres, rest homes etc), and also about 160 industrial enterprises, collective and individual agricultural enterprises, which damage the nature. Tovtry has picturesque landscape, often sharp (white and gray) rock failures (failure of the most beautiful Zbruch), karst phenomena. The peaks which is and slopes of Tovtry covered mostly by forests, rich in floristic composition of oak, beech, hornbeam, hazel, wild pear, cherry, rock oak, ash, sycamore, beech, maple holly. Wildlife Tovtry also very rich (a species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine: Swallowtail, Mnemosyne, perelivnytsya great hermit beetle, stag beetle, saturniya ore). Quite numerous are amphibians. In mammals there are chamois, wild boar, elk are very rare. Common to fox, marten forest, ferret, hedgehog, badger. A special group of bats that inhabit caves mostly small and niche. The most numerous is the group of birds - common: usual buzzard, eagle, dwarf, small Spotted Eagle, eagle owl, harrier field, arrive for the winter: gray shrike, Long-owl, peregrine falcon, the flight: black stork, crane gray.
