HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST (FORMERLY GED) Mount Wachusett Community College will offer the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET™) in both the paper and computer base version. Students must be at least sixteen years of age to test and students must have a valid picture id. Students who are under the age of eighteen must obtain a withdraw letter from the last high school they attended stating they officially withdrew. Ages 13 - 17. Want to write a graphic novel? As we help students focus on character development and storytelling, they will actually create the pages of a short graphic novel. Students will also meet other students who share their interests and will help each other improve their technique. The Watchmen, V is for Vendetta, and The Walking Dead are popular examples of graphic novels, but many more exist, and this program can help students learn how to bring their imaginations to life on paper. Young people who do graphic novels develop skills in logic, teamwork, problem solving, and completing a task. They also form strong bonds with each other and create a community within. Graphic novel creation is therapeutic, has been found to improve self-esteem, and the more they write and draw, the better the graphic novelist gets in producing their passion on paper. After the program concludes, all graphic novels created over the week will be printed in full color, professionally bound for the class in a soft cover book keepsake for each student. Everything you need is included in our Technician training package. The interactive lab software allows students to design circuitry, perform tests, and work with electronic equipment as though they were in a real electronics workshop. Students may enroll in the program at any time during the year. The self-paced training packages allow students to complete individual technician courses on their own time. This flexibility provides students with the ability to set their own pace when proceeding through the programs. Typical completion time is two weeks per module; however students can finish much more quickly, depending on factors such as previous training, experience, education, and time allocation. These highly innovative distance education programs combine state-of-the-art lab simulation with award-winning curriculum, resulting in a great learning experience. Training Funds Available For Massachusetts Companies Help your business achieve the next level of success. MWCC offers training anywhere and anytime, including free training needs analyses, and free grant writing assistance to help pay for your training. Specialized assistance is available in banking, bio manufacturing, business, healthcare, and manufacturing. The Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) is a Massachusetts state fund enacted into law in July 1998 and financed entirely by Massachusetts employers. Its purpose is to provide funding resources to Massachusetts businesses and workers to train current and newly hired employees. Here are some general provisions of the program:

• Up to $250,000 is available through Workforce Training Fund grants

• Businesses are eligible if they have paid into the program through paying unemployment insurance

• There are three types of Workforce Training Fund grants: HITG (Hiring Incentive Training Grant), Express Grants and

General Program Grants

• HITG Grants encourage hiring Massachusetts residents who have been dislocated from the workforce

• Express Grants encourage small companies to quickly and easily access off-the-shelf training

• Applications can be submitted at any time and have a five-day decision turn-around

• General Grant encourages employer organizations, labor organizations, training providers, or a consortium of such entities, to train current and newly hired workers

• General grants announce are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year with decisions being made within 60 days

Medical Device Manufacturing Training Program

This program prepares eligible students for entry level positions as assemblers, operators, inspectors and technicians in the growing field of biomedical device manufacturing. This course includes both hands-on lecture-based material as well as self-paced KeyTrain curriculum leading to National Career Readiness Certification. Students will learn about working in clean room manufacturing in a regulated facility. Training is available at no cost to qualified participants.
